Thank you for the video. That was the problem the 2 bolts were loose. It was really harder just to take apart the stuff to see what you had to fix. Then tighten the bolts.

After many months of having to start my '03 Explorer Sport in neutral and using the parking brake to prevent the vehicle from rolling while 'parked', I finally decided to dig into this problem and found your video. You sir, saved me a bunch of time. Loose shift bracket bolts were exactly it. It's nice to be able to start in park and feel that parking pawl doing it's job again! Thank you for the video!

Lol I like many others required this exact same fix. Thank you. Usually with repair videos, it’s not exactly the same but you usually end up with enough info to do the fix. This video was spot on I was so happy. Just to put it out there no big deal, I wonder if the creator realizes this video could use some editing. I didn’t see it mentioned in the comments so I wasn’t sure. Anyways it was fine for it’s purpose

You are the man! I did search around and didn't find anything much that was really helpful - most were replacing the neutral safety switch or shift interlock solenoid. T was suspecting this type of problem and it was nice to see someone had already dove into it. Nice job & very helpful!!

I fixed this exact issue today. One screw had fallen out. I added Loctite so it wouldn't back out again. Also removed the other screw and added Loctite to that one as well for good measure.

I still need help. Thank you for the video. I watched it a while ago and went under, tightened the one screw I could ( the other is stripped and different) and it worked for several months. I didn't use the locktight and now it seems my problem is worse. I went under and tightened the same screw and it worked immediately but just 2 days later I began having problems shifting back to park. It seems to start out at reverse. And the screw I thought I tightened fell out. When I tried to put it back in .... Well it's not catching. It seems to be going straight into the outside hole and not into a plate inside that would hold the screw. I don't know how to line these things back up to tighten down. Will I have to get a shop to handle it?
@JunkworksGarage Жыл бұрын
Sounds like its striped out you might need to replace the parts all together as far as going somewhere else that depends on how much you want to do yourself.

I have an 2003 Explorer XLT at the shop with the drop down adjustable steering column And it has the same problem, no Park! And there is no white cable and no lever with torque bolts. I took the seat out and there is nothing moving at all when you shift the lever through all gears except for Park. So there must be different set ups when you have a drop down steering column. Or 2 years newer a 2003 XLT. If you value your money and if you value your wife driving a vehicle, take my advice and don't buy a Ford Explorer XLT. Anything over 100,000 miles and this will become the biggest money pit you ever experience in your life. This customer has been putting so much money in this Explorer, I feel sorry for him,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Instead of shoving up real hard on it and breaking something just put it in neutral and start it
