The solder crimps are actually used quite a bit on Fighter planes, so it's good enough for a blinker :)

Add some metal front splitter support bars in the middle of the grille onto the splitter. Would look sick but also actually hold the splitter up. At high speeds that splitter is gonna be pushed down by the immense air pressure over it.
@motosteggy3980 Жыл бұрын
Didn't Porsche (When Matt took it for an inspection (In an old video)) say it was missing those metal cables to support the splitter??
@jonnowocky8179 Жыл бұрын
Was with a Ferrari challenge car recently and the splitter on them feels like you could stand on it, also looks like it’s been chewed by the dog and still going strong - I’d keep the nice carbon one on the shelf and stick a scrubber on for track times

Great stuff as usual Mat! I had a Jag a few years back with a similar tyre problem to the Maserati, turns out it was toe angle rather than camber that was the culprit. Too much toe out causes the inside tread to wear quickly. I'd recommend a good four wheel alignment to get it sorted. :)

Reinforce the centre splitter with some blue foam chopped to shape and secured with epoxy between the top and bottom pieces of carbon. Or the gap filling expanding foam, that doesn't need epoxy. That will take the flex out of it and no need to drill holes in the lovely carbon.

Mat, that front spoiler needs more structure to its internals. Use a spray polyurethane foam. The flexing in the Nurb caused the bottom half to peel off when touching the tarmac. The foam would have kept the pieces together and stopped the flexing

About the Porsche and the front splitter why not cut aluminium plate or bar in the shape of your lower bumper to join the hollow void and place that in the void of the carbon and use it as a full length clamp and centre support for both your bumper and the splitter

@JudithGrainger Жыл бұрын
Matt, advise you look at geometry and the width of wheel to width of tyre. Damage to those tyres indicate the wheels are too wide for the tyres. This problem is exaggerated when using low profile tyres. Need also to check the tyre wall is not rubbing on a suspension part.
@taylormwilson1 Жыл бұрын
Mat, evananderson214 is correct, youll want to get some of the adjustable tie rod style splitter/canard supports for the the mid section of that sexy CF splitter, at 100+ MPH it will create much more down force than you lifting it. As well as the turbulence that air creates going over the splitter can make it wobble up and down. TLDR Splitter supports are good 👍

Live not far from AF in East Winch. Going to Kings Lynn on 23rd for the event they're sponsoring Also, E/E Engineer....those solder connectors are blooming brilliant; especially if you suck at soldering wires and cable Another "also"...the MK3 Focus is...mental. I've got my ST at a touch over 300 BHP, loads of suspension mods (apart from spings/shocks) and with 245mm tyres (8.5J jag f-type wheels), it grips for days. Faster than a stock RS from stationary or a 20 roll, but the RS will keep up & pull ahead after 100mph. The focus is so well balanced from factory is really does well in corners.
