Penealopy's situation in the books kinda feels like Sophie from Howls Moving castle. In books n the movie she's been cursed of old age but it oddly empowers her with a unique sense of freedom elderly women get to have. When she looks her age there's this unspoken pressure to act or look a certain way which is a big part of her character's insecurity. With old age comes the freedom for her to be herself without the aspection and she's experiencing the joys of being a nagging old lady without scrutiny. Though different it's interesting for concepts like these to get brought up in women literature. Don't know what that says about me that I relate to this very much 😅😂

The reason I enjoy older adaptations (specifically Jane Austen type ones), is that the casts almost always look more realistic. By this I mean that old characters are actually old and wrinkly, "ugly" characters aren't almost always assimilated and cast as conventionally attractive, etc.

@sleepy.timaeus.arts.5 ай бұрын
yeah! i love her dearly :)
@isabelguzmanmiranda50254 ай бұрын
Yeah, if anything, Lady Danbury's looks are very much irrelevant. Some people have complained that the old lady acts "too sassy, too modern" for the time... But if you go to your Jane Austen, old RICH ladies sometimes acted like that because they could. Darcy's aunt Lady Catherine De Bourgh really talked without giving a s*** about other people's opinions. And Emma Woodhouse clearly states that "it's only poverty that makes celibacy unappealing" -quoting from memory, so probably wrong-. Which means that young women trying to marry, and married women of fertile age (all of whom required societal respect and had to act with certain propriety, because paternity DNA tests didn't exist yet, so their behaviour had to always be unimpeachable, out of the slightest sliver of suspicion) had to behave very, very well. Older women without money who depended on the favour of richer friends (who gave them presents of fish and game and stuff) also had to behave a certain way. But, rich single ladies or rich widows? They could do and say whatever the hell they wanted, and considering most of them had probably gone through the previous stages of losing sleep because of what other people might have thought or said about them, it makes TOTAL sense that those women, at a certain age in their lives, said "f*** off, I'm going to go TOTALLY UNFILTERED now". I love them.

i think what OP is trying to say is that the books can get really fanfic-y at times, not about it coming out first. if you were to watch season 2, for example, then read the book and you read shit like the original bee scene you'd be weirded out ++ how similar all the books are to each other (there's a good video on this), its use of tropes and the fact that every man is a rake and every woman is younger and 'pure', etc. it just builds up to a more fanfic/bodice ripper (which, well, they are) type feel than the netflix show.

Could do a by-the-book for Monster High? Monster high actually had a 4 book series written by Lisi Harrison that started in 2010. Unlike other franchises, the books were written as promotion for the release of Monster High toy line. However, the books were written during development of the toys and story so the author didn’t know everything and was able to tell a unique story. They’re very different than the show but I find them really endearing and nostalgic. I think it would be really cool if you drew all the characters in their human disguises and monster forms because they actually have to hide that they’re monsters during the story.

As for Colin's fashion - in Eloise's book it's mentioned that all the Brigerton men prefer to dress in black and white and avoid the fashionable colors of the ton.

It would be cool if you did Divergent! Ik it’s not a series, but there’s still a few movies.

I didn't like Bridgerton season 3 and i low-key felt like they ruined my favourite couple that is Polin but this video brings such a sweetness to me having read the book twice. I'm not saying everything in the book was great but they should've stuck to it more closely than what they did in the show. Love your video and designs so much Lavender🫶🏽

I need to see this for The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, the movie changes the designs so much

Again, idk if you ever see this,, but you should definitely do the outsiders by SE Hinton for this!! Is a super good read, and I’d love to see how you’d draw the gang :) If you haven’t read it,, you definitely should! It’s a super good book, amazing read.

oh, i have a suggestion! maybe the characters from the shadowhunters chronicles? :D that netflix show? the books (the mortal instruments by cassandra clare) are really fun and the characters are very interesting, if you want to do it it would be so awesome to see your turn at them!

Got City of Glass from the library, but I'm finishing the 2nd & 3rd books of Unwind before I'm reading it.

it's okay to draw a character as the race as depicted in the book rather than the Netflix adaptation, ya know. the series is called "by the book", after all.

You should do a by the book with Eragon! The adaptation is truly and adaptation of all time
