I’ve been a home owner (1 home) … and DIY’er for 46 years (I’m 74). I own a 1200 sq ft bungalow in Westchester an have rebuilt my home over the past 40 years. Now that I’m retired and there’s this thing called digital videos 😉 I now have the time to learn various trades by viewing what interest me (anything to do with construction and home improvement … regardless of the trade). That being said you positively produce the best teaching videos out there. You’re a master teacher! … it’s almost as if I standing right next to you. You’re a truly skilled master teacher … thorough, modest and extremely knowledgeable about your trade. Your videos are absolutely wonderful. If I were a young man, I’d volunteer freely to work along side you … even if it was mixing to compound. I’m absolutely certain, the several dozens of videos I’ve watched of yours are having a beneficial effect on all who have the privilege of viewing them. Best wishes with the rest of your career!

I appreciate hearing such positive comments from you and learning about your experiences. It makes me feel like I'm not doing enough. You've got me feeling motivated and excited to continue pushing my boundaries. I respect you and the time you took out of your day to write this extremely positive and empowering comment. You're the original OG. Thank you!

Thank you so much maestro! It’s an honor as well as heartwarming to receive a reply. If you’re ever in Westchester County, please look me up drop by. I grow tomatoes and veggies every year - from seed, (my other passion) … If it’s mid-Aug through late Sept I’ll share a basket of tomatoes and veggies with you :-). You remind me of a friend I know from Ghana … is that one of the 29 languages under you belt? 😉 Try True People to look me up. Best!

So you screw the sheetrock into the metal bars now? Do the screws pull the bar and sheetrock together enough?

Yes, of course, but you don't just use screws, you also use acrylic glues for a better result.

I did something similar, ran metal studs, cut off one side. Had the other side flush with the ceiling joists. It was a low ceiling so I couldnt lose anymore height than I already was with a big sag in the joists. Best thing would have been to put in new 24’ joists and cut the sag out of the old ones but it was during covid in NY and also.. f that. Late at night I dream of higher ceilings and I also hope I put enough screws in to the side of those 2x4 metal studs so they can hold all that drywall weight. To recap, I took a metal stud that if you are looking at it so it looks like a U, I made it look like a J and screwed the side of the J into the stud, bottom of the J was lazer leveled to lowest part of sagging joists.

You could've just pulled a couple of those 2×4 braces off of the walls and nailed them to the side of the 2 ceiling joists that were high so that they plained in with the others. You have to take them off anyway so it just makes more sense to use those instead of wasting money on a bunch of new material to get the same results
