Imma just cut some low end and slam everything into a soft clipper😂. Yeah it will make it “loud”, but the mix instantly goes to shit. Engineering over beats that are poorly made this way is so much worse than limiting a little in the beat, and then letting the master step reach that slamming loudness (if that’s what you’re going for… obviously all the opium stuff IS).

I have to say this: Turning up the dB on 808, kick, or bass and putting clipper to limit peaks is not fixing a weak low-end. Why? if you play that file out loud in a venue with monitors that are already bass-sensitive, the bass is going to drown everything out and ruin the song because now your low-end is so over-boosted. The way to fix a weak low-end is by understanding the frequencies that make up the low-end and the different transient responses when played out loud on monitors (e.g. 20hz, 40hz, 60hz, 80hz, 100hz). Then, make EQ gains and shape your bass elements (808, kick, bass) with those transient responses in mind. If there's overlapping frequencies, you can side chain to create room for things like kicks cutting through 808's. You absolutely want to limit or clip peaks so nothing on the master bus ever exceeds -0.0dB or -0.1dB. However, you do NOT want to just push the dB fader to make low-end gains instead of EQing and shaping the bass transients. If your 808, kick, or bass are loud (high dB), then you may have to actually cut bass frequencies for it to work in an overall loud mix. You always have to consider the response your low-end will have on a bass-sensitive monitor when being played at a club or a venue.

I like some of the changes in that first beat but holy shit you really ruined the dynamics of the track lmao. After the changes it lost all definition in the samples, I feel like the 808 just ate everything else up and all you hear is the 808 and this filtered wall of noise, which didn't really seem like the end goal for that beat. I'm so glad he was happy, but if that happened to me I really wouldn't come away from this feeling super confident. I'd be thinking "Well if this is doing it right, maybe I should start doing things wrong because this is actually painful to listen to now" but the beat itself was actually really good, just could have dialled it back a TINY bit lol. Second beat is HARD asf, I really like this one and it works better with the brick wall approach because there's less sounds and instruments being used. It's 1 sample track, the thicc 808 and the drums (and a few FX here and there) as opposed to like 4 or 5 different melodies and counter melodies (which is something I get into a lot as well). Gotta give instruments their space even if you're just gonna push it all to the ceiling, it'll sound less bloated if those samples have their own space carved out to begin with. Pretty much same thoughts with the 3rd track, really impressed with the beat they brought you, and for the most part you really did pick some great tips and tricks to show them. I just wish that first redo hadn't blown my ears out lol
