Well this was either the first "Smart Home Saturday" ...or the first AND last! 😅 Let me know what you think and thanks for supporting me trying new formats over here.

I enjoyed it and would love to see more! I think it's useful to follow-up and see what unexpected issues arose with an automation. Also to see the fix that's implemented. Great work Reed!

Yes! Keep this "Fixing Smart Home Problems" format going. Things going wrong is a big part of having a smart home and we don't see that aspect discuss enough on youtube. It might not be as "sexy" as showing a new gadget or automation but IT IS very helpful. Thanks!

It's great to see a video that shows switches going offline and other "issues" in the smarthome. I don't think we see enough of this from the smarthome KZbinrs and it's easy to feel like it's only a problem that I am sometimes having.

I've used those a few times in the past when they came with the device. I didn't realize I could buy them. What have I been doing all these years! I'll definitely buy some next time I'm at Home Depot and use them from now on. Thanks for the tip!

hmm, you should use WAGO, your connections don't look securely twisted.

That zooz one could be reset without turning off the breaker. To complete the reset process manually, tap-tap-tap'n'hold the upper paddle for at least 10 seconds. The LED indicator will flash to confirm successful reset. NOTE: All previously recorded activity and custom settings will be erased from the device's memory. This is for on off switch . Dimmers have different instructions

That is the correct way to factory reset the device, but I had a similar problem as @smarthomesolver and the only way to get the relay working again was to completely remove the power. I still don't understand why some Zooz switches have air gaps and others don't. I thought this was a UL requirement?

Reed, I had Zooz switches for 2-3 years and had random problems with them losing communication to my SmartHub or they would just quit working. I finally made the switch to the Enbrighten Zigbee switches and all of those issues went away. Another benefit is that everything works much faster now it’s on Zigbee. Just my 2 cents.

The Apple TV integration can launch specific apps, too. For example, when I run my “Start Workout” automation, HA doesn’t just turn on my TV and Apple TV; it also launches the app I use to stream my workouts.

Lol, that must be the Zen72. I think zooz only ever made one light switch without an air gap (unless you count the toggle-style Zen73).
@bsem68
@bsem68 Жыл бұрын
Zen71 switch does not have an air gap and is a switch, Zen72 for example is a dimmer and has an airgap. General rule is newer Zooz dimmers have airgaps and Zooz switches don't. The airgap is on dimmers as a safety feature when changing bulbs, to make sure the dimmer does not have any power to the fixture which could result in shock or damage to bulb. With a switch you know when you turn it off that there is no power to the load. My Zen71 never have to be reset btw, so probably defective switch or something else is wrong.

Do you have a set-in -stone procedure when trying to work out a problem with a device? Like 1. Is the app updated. 2.power on hubs/wifi 3. Connection strength, etc. I think I might make a check-list for myself.

Hi The AppleTV Wakeup command (and maybe also a "standby" command when the home-cinema is switched off) is something I'm very interested - but i fail yet. Can you provide some more guidance?

3:07 - I get the range issue, but what about creating an input boolean that is triggered, by automation when the light turns on/off. Then for the baby monitor automation have it not notify you of crying if the input boolean is on? As always my fellow Arizonan, I fine video that provides me with ideas that my wife would probably kill me if I sought to implement them (well more so buying new switches that work off of motion).

The Lutron switch problem made me wonder; hmm, might there be a light sensor in the room, which would bypass the dependency of the switch state? Which then made me wonder, can a flowchart be created that we can use to force us to consider other options? E.g. It took years for me to realize that if I use a door sensor combined with my bathroom lights, then I no longer have the lights turn off when I shower. If some flow had told me to step back and consider other devices, I wouldn't have gone crazy for months figuring out timer lengths in the bath!

So if you don't want to spread germs by turning off the lights in the bathroom then maybe you should wash your hands?
@JerryNeutron
@JerryNeutron Жыл бұрын
Good luck with that when you have kids 😂
@TheHellis
@TheHellis Жыл бұрын
@@JerryNeutron that is a matter of raising your kids. We have two kids and both are very good at cleaning their hands after being on the toilet. They also go to clean their hands the first thing they do when they get home or when they visit someone. If they by any reason get dirty hands from, let's say eating, they immediately tell us or wash their hands themselves. They have always done this, ever since they could walk and talk. So yes, perfectly doable with kids if you have thought them to wash their hands

Does the occupancy light switch that was next to the Zooz switch control a light or an exhaust fan. Would really be helpful if you do a video on exhaust fans (e.g. bathroom and laundry) automations. Thanks.
