Fixing Tektronix 465 Oscilloscope - screen problem

I do not understand why everyone on internet or from forum tells that tantalum cap or big cap replacement can save Tek 465, 465B, 468, 475 and 475A. It may be true and work for their own oscilloscopes. However, if it is so simple to replace a cap to save your old oscilloscopes, why wouldn’t those recycle companies just replace all those oscilloscopes with new caps and re-sell them for new price in internet? They will make a forture for sure!

First of all you need to find service manual for this scope. And there you should find section with direct steps how to check and solve various scope problems. Tek service manuals are really good. Just get one and look around, it may help you with this problem.

The recycle companies have too many vintage and broken Tek oscilloscopes in stock and they want to make a big profit out of them. Maybe that is the reason why there are so many speculations of cap repacement for old Tek oscilloscopes.

What happened to the Delay Time Position knob? I have seen these models with a metal double knob.

There was two kinds of 465. With multimeter module on top and without it. These without multimeter have double meal knob.
