I thought that I should drop you a message as I used to rebuild perkins engines from the 3 cylinder to the v8s. The 4107s and 4108s are such great little engines that go on forever and a day and were also used in the old London black cabs as well as the road compressors to name a few applications. The lift pump (on the side of the engine) should be man enough to pull the fuel through the system (to check, disconnect fuel lines from pump and try pumping... it should creek or make a farting noise. If no noise, could be crack in diaphragm or knackered valves) You might find that you may have the diesel bug that could have blocked the fuel CAV filter or the filter could simply be plugged up. The diesel bug is like a black sludge (and it's a pain in the ar5e). I hope that this is of help

Try putting air through the fuel line (towards the tank) into the tank, the strainer / pickup might be blocked with sludge or a diesel bug (bacteria). Oh and have you tried spraying some easy start or brake cleaner into the intake to see if it even fires?

Hi mate Rod hear again there should be a lever on the diesel pump on the side of the engine to pump the diesel through to prime the lines if that doesn’t work fit an in line 12v pump Good luck

Take the diesel line off the engine filter and put a rubber hose from a can of diesel directly to the engine filter, bleed it using the manual lift pump once all the air is out loosen each injector one at a time and crank the engine until diesel come through than tighten everything up and you should be good to go

Hey ,can i suggest where the hose meets the turn off tap remove and check pipe not blocked or stop tap in right position,an other idear is to pressurise the fuel tank with a air line and make surer you get flow then.if stuck always grab a brew and start from beginning and check you didnt overlook something .i would check 1, pump ,2 check fuel line including filters incase 1 way vavle that if flowing right way as this can be frustrating,.3 check for pinched line,4, sort a temporary external fuel tank and pump a long the connected joins check flow ok and not blocked ,failing all that get a mate to help.best of luck cant wait to see whats on next weeks episode .

Get it up here in the midlands, drop it on a trailer and get it shipped to stourport or upton on the side for the winter, theres a lot of work there but a wealth of knowlege in the area to help you out and always willing to lend a hand, been a yachtsman since birth :)

Bro PUT The AIR TO THE LINES!! Remember she's been setting for a while now. If yun's dint have full Full tanks when yall went to start it she's probably just clogged! Personally I have had a couple Perkins Engine's and you can't beat them!! Keep yalls heads up and push on thro!!! You will be fishing before you know it!!

You need to check the fuel lines are not blocked. Are an air pump to blow back down the fuel lines from the lift pump to the fuel tank. If the lines are blocked your best option is to replace them as diesel bug may be present in the lines and tank. When you eventually set off on your trip make sure you have at least 3 spare fuel filters that you can change out on the trip if needed.

Another thought.. To isolate the problem. Simply arrange an alternate supply. Forget the tank for now.. Connect a fuel supply to the system from a small container to the filter.. filter having been cleaned.. Bleed it through ..try the engine.. Diesels are super simple.. provided the injection pump is functioning..clean fuel, compression.. it works. It's highly unlikely that the injection pump would have failed on both engines.

I've no idea how long those tanks have been sitting there,.. Gunge.. a sort of mix of oil residue and muck can solidify in the bottom of the tank and cover the pick-up pipe..it can become extremely solid.. You can try blowing through the pipe back into the tank if you have access to a strong pump... On one of my yachts I discovered that the gunge had solidified to such an extent that it couldn't be penetrated with a thin sharp steel blade !

to get the engines running to start with, get a remote tank and run it off that, then you can fault find the tank and lines, fight one job at a time.

You wont catch a tuna anywhere close to the uk😂haha. To bleed the system just loosen the injectors a bit and crank to engine over until fuel is coming out.😉

forget the tanks and use plastic gallon tank and gravity feed to the fuel filter that cuts the fuel tanks out and the engine fuel pump and allows fuel to the injector pump then bleed at the injectors by turning engine and cracking the fuel pipes at the injectors till fuel comes out and all the air is got rid of use clean new fuel. O by the way you should have a bleed screw on the fuel filter and also if lift pump is working then crank it till fuel comes out of injector bleed screw hope it helps good luck (mick the greek)

It’s a simple system on those 4108’s A lift pump as mentioned must be ‘pumped’ manually Go on you tube, there will be lots of info!!!😃 You need to get at least two new batteries The others may be ok but doubtful One things for sure This faffin around might be frustrating Think though of all the knowledge your gaining and getting to know all about what’s what with the engines/ fuel system/ electrical system etc So important if your going to Sea You mentioned Llandudno previously You got a mooring/ berth/ up hereabouts ? Or you gonna park on the hard till She’s seaworthy? Anyway good luck , it’s gonna be worth it😁👍👍

9.anything volts in a 12v battery is showing a duff battery. Get some good new marine batteries in there and stop overworking them there chargers!! (Ive been in the vehicle technician industry 18yrs). Marine deep cycle batteries are what you want with the highest MCA’s you can afford!

There is a lift pump mechanical that is on the engine and driven by the engine but has a lever on it so you can bleed the fuel system THOSE BATTS ARE TOAST !

thinking the reason the batteries were not all linked on positive is because 2 batteries for each engine , the negatives can all be linked as a common ground. As for the fuel .. have you checked the lines are clear? you should be able to blow down them or use low air pressure , also a quick google and the 4108 should have a mechanical fuel lift pump on the engine , this should have a lever to allow manual pump to prime and bleed.. worth a check
