David, I had tears in my eyes watching this video. Thank you very much for your dedication to this project. Several years ago, when the series came out on DVD, I was warned by a dear friend of mine that the original music had been altered and not to waste my money on the DVD's. I was shattered! No series in the history of television is more associated with it's music than the Fugitive in my mind. And what a mind-blowing revelation to hear that Mr. Rugolo did not score the episodes individually! You have done a great service to the fans.

This is a great presentation about a monumental labor of love that I participated in along with David and Robert Dahl. I edited the soundtracks of many episodes of seasons 2 and 3, restoring the original score from old VHS recordings. Together, we were known as the "Fugitive Audio Restoration Team" or "F.A.R.T."

Thank you, David. Yes, I grew up watching The Fugitive, and it was one of my favorites. Tell you a little story... After I got married, my wife and I would watch The Fugitive reruns, and she was not very familiar with it, SO, as every episode started, I would tell her that "THIS IS THE LAST EPISODE, AND HE GETS CAUGHT". Of course, she would believe me, and at the end of the episode, she would tell me, "I THOUGHT YOU SAID HE WOULD GET CAUGHT!!!". and we would get a good laugh about it. Thank you for all you did in getting this done. How amazing YOUR STORY IS that CBS contacted you about this. AMAZING, and GREAT JOB

I'm so glad I came across this video! I too used to record music cues from "The Fugitive" onto audio tape (reel-to-reel for me, I'm a bit older than you Dave, haha) ... The original music cues from this show are like fingerprints ... they can't be replaced. Thanks to all who had a part in restoring this music to the DVDs. I can't imagine what this must have involved! Thanks too for posting this video, it's great to know that others have an appreciation for this special era in TV history when people like Pete Rugolo created music that could be etched in memory for decades!

I was born in the 1970s and was a child of the 80s and 90s BUT I can say with great pride that I am a fan of The Fugitive. I had fallen in love with the series due to its parallels with Victor Hugo's novel Les Miserables and I was fascinated by its reported connection to the Dr Sam Sheppard murder trial. But I had picked up on the series when I came across a book called The Fugitive which detailed every episode of the series. What was fascinating about that book was that it had a forward by THE Stephen King. As a fan of Stephen King stories I was amazed to know why he had a love of this show. I read through each episode synopsis and saw just a hint of what Stephen King was talking about and I bought the book because of that and later on searched for old episodes. I found them and was immediately hooked (The Girl from Little Egypt being my favorite episode). To this day, David Janssen remains one of my top 10 favorite actors I hadnt thought of the series for some time until only today when I was in a dvd store did I spy with my little eye The Fugitive Complete Series box set. My eyes went wide and my smile grew and I grabbed that sucker, paid for it, and rushed home to started watching it. Seeing your video today made me realize that what I hold in my hand is a labor of love, so let me say thank you for all that you have done.

Yes, a real hero. Thank you so much for doing the best drama series a huge service. Rugolo's music set the mood for series - a master at work! BTW, listen to the opening Act IV scene music from "Never Wave Goodbye, Part 2," where Kimble and Karen are saving Gerard after he washes up on shore. This piece of music is used in several episodes and is incredibly beautiful.

When I saw the title "Fixing the Fugitive: Thanks to the Fans" I almost passed up on it, I couldn't imagine what it was but after watching it I AM IMPRESSED! Congratulations and thanks to you and all others involved in this complex project. Too many times watching an old TV show or movie I would say to myself something doesn't sound right. You went that extra 1,000 miles. Kudos! I saw the show first run when I was in my teens and I always felt that the soundtrack was part of what made the show great. I think that is true for many movies and TV shows. Like you I used to tape record music from shows right off the TV. Now from the efforts of dedicated people like yourself I have soundtrack CDs from great shows like The Fugitive, The Man from U.N.C.L.E and Superman. Back in the 60's when I was watching these shows I would have never imagined I would be able to see and hear these shows again. Right now ME-TV is running The Fugitive series in order. I believe the episodes all have the original music, I think I would have noticed if they didn't but I certainly will pay more attention to it in the future.

You sir, are a hero!! The Peter Rugolo score (and other assorted musical queues that you point out with such expertise) is as integral a part of this immortal show as David Janssen himself!! It's INCREDIBLE how much of a difference the Heyes soundtrack vs the original score affects the emotional quality of the episodes. The Heyes cues just drain all the intensity from the story--whereas the Rugolo score (and other cues) COMPLETELY draws you in!! I salute you and everyone involved who contributed in righting the wrong. Your tireless efforts ultimately restored the series to be viewed (as you so perfectly stated) "the way its creators meant it to be viewed." My "Most Wanted" edition has all the original music intact and it is one of my prized possessions!!

Thank you so much for your expert and personal devotion to helping correct this travesty with "THE FUGITIVE" TV soundtrack, because while i was hesitant to even try buying the collector's set, which i still haven't brought yet,i would've been plenty pissed if i discovered this unforgivable edit with Pete Rugolo's key background music, nor did i understand why in the hell that CBS Paramount even did this, and for what particular reason? as you already know, much of the background music of "THE FUGITIVE" had also used the great music of Dominic Frontiere, who scored "THE OUTER LIMITS" and "STONEY BURKE" TV series for Leslie Stevens' Daystar Productions and United Artists, who also co-produced "THE FUGITIVE",so i might've understood CBS's reasons to edit the series, given that Frontiere's music came from Daystar/UA,that MGM now owns! eitherway the editing thing was very unwelcomed regardless of this being a copyright issue, making gross edits like this is seriously criminal, and i sure hope that CBS got the message to cease and desist from doing shit like this, and especially to a great TV classic like "THE FUGITIVE".

This is an amazing view. I can't think of any other dramatic series that inspired such a groundswell of fan backlash about the music. The series was so detail-oriented to devoted viewers and when it came to that music, no one who loved the show overlooked that or took it for granted, it was as valuable to the success of the series as the cast and stories themselves. It is my all time favorite TV show to this very day. And I wish I had a CD copy of all that original music/score in my library.

The CD score comes with The Most Wanted edition. As a bonus, a hardworking lawyer even found some long lost-cuts to add to the disc. The truth is, this set never would have happened without a lawyer at CBS who poured a year or more of his life into it. If I have a regret in making this video, it's that I was unable to use his name or the name of the VP who hired me. But I'm grateful CBS finally gave me permission to share this video.

My passion for helping to fix the show came from memories of watching THE FUGITIVE with my father, who's been dead 33 years. My question is, has the Most Wanted Edition been updated with all the original music now? I just bought the Complete Series DVDs which are cheaper, but I wouldn't mind owning the other set too just to get the extras. I wish there were was more information out there on the show plus some kind of definitive biography of David Janssen. He's not really getting enough appreciation these days it seems. He should be recognized as one of the all time greatest actors in my opinion.

I suggest you buy Ed Robertson's great book The Fugitive Recaptured. A great book on the making of the show and its impact in television history. Also got some great David Janssen stuff as well.

No 1: the fuge was hugely popular on RTE Irish TV and when the channel was about to start showing the next series, they'd do a publicity item on the then most popular sat nite talk show in Ireland (the Late Late show with Gay Bryrne). Returning after the advert break, theyd immed go into an excerpt of the new series and then Barry Morse, live on the show, would appear and shout "Kimble" etc...great publicity.

I remember very little of it when it was first run because I was only 5 years old when the finale aired. But, thanks to reruns in our local syndicated TV station in 1974 I began to appreciate the future of and that was only 11, but, was already a lover of film and TV music. One thing I'm puzzled about though. On the DVD set which contains parts 1 and 2 of the judgment, the final narration by William Conrad has that September 5th date on it instead of the original Tuesday August 29th, which was the actual air date of the final episode which I thought was a clever way of working it into the narrative. But, I'm glad that we're still able to see the show. By the way I also downloaded one of your episodes. A few years back

Taking Pete Rugolo's music off of these episodes is absolute sacrilege. Kudos to dedicated Fuge fans like David Hall for fixing this!

I hear you! Same experience with the butcher job! Luckily I had taped the series one by one off of A&E after not seeing it for over 2 decades! Those tapes remain today as one of my most prized possessions!
