Fixing the Pan & Zoom Tool in Premiere Elements

I'm several hours into using Elements and I think I will quote a Reddit user when talking about "pan and zoom": "It's a pile of hot garbage."

God what a pain! Love Elements for pictures but for videos... So far not so happy. Pan and zoom on Corel, is much easier. And easier to understand HOW to use it. Premiere seems more complicated than needed. (But I suppose all of editors seem that way at first)

Thanks for the video. It helped me. For some dang reason the time on my pictures that have zoom went up to like 8 seconds. So far haven't found how to return it to the five seconds it was set too. Video will be way long if all 150 pictures are twice as long as I meant them to be.

I'm in Elements 2024 and it is just as bad. I also don't like how you can't go beyond the edge of the image, and have elements letterbox as necessary. You need a perfect aspect ratio image to be able to see the whole image. I can't believe they have made something so common so bad!

In fact it is worse than I thought. I have to mess around to get the photos to occupy the right amount of time, but when I put pan and zoom in place, it changes the duration of image and splits the audio track (!!!) where it has changed the image duration. I simply can't believe how bad this is. Adobe should be too ashamed to have this be seen - but it is a "mature" product. I'm sure if I mess around long enough so I use it exactly right by the numbers, it might behave and not destroy the project, but 1) I haven't got time, and 2) I shouldn't have to.

This is why I continually recommend creating pans and zooms with key frames rather than using this useless tool.

Contrary to your opinion, I have really enjoyed using Premiere Elements for many years. With it, I have produced many family videos with lots of interesting features that my family enjoys. Additionally, I have purchased and used Steve's books and viewed many of his videos on how to use PE, all of which have been a great help to me.
