The powerbook was for professionals so it was easy to access the critical things such the CPU, ram and hard drive. However the ibook G3/4 of the same era was for consumers and that was a pain to take apart, over an hour to just get to the hard drive but yeah you are right to an extent. It's just if the manufacturers want to make it easier to work on and back then they probably did alot more than before.

I had one of these. They were available in 400MHZ and 500MHZ models. The lower speed was always the best bet as they had the same cooling system. The dual bays were great as you could run 2 batteries for long use, or no batteries with the floppy and CD drive (using a power brick).

If you're thinking about MHz to MHz comparisons, RISC generally got about twice the performance per MHz than CISC (such as Intel was, Intel has "RISC-like" internal cores with a microcode translation layer nowadays). Obviously it depended on the workload. But that was the entire raison d'être of various other companies like MIPS, who made server CPUs and also the PS2 CPU. POWER (related to PowerPC) still holds a niche in the server space to this day, and ARM is RISC as well - the absolute performance is no longer better than Intel due to how beefy heatsinks and power supplies have gotten, but the performance per watt is still much better.

Excellent video. Also, thank you for some good tips for us who still use these vintage black and white apple laptops. Own the model right after this, the G3 Powerbook Firewire because in addition to having two USB ports it also came with with two Firewire 400 ports. This truly is my favorite design of all of the apple computer laptops because mine has a built-in airport card, two "hot" swappable bays for (i.e. batteries, DVD-player, Zip drive, Super Disk drive, floppy drive, and extra memory), accepts type I and type II expansion cards, for wireless printing an inferred port. audio-in, port, audio-out port, internal 56k modem port, Ethernet, port "S" video port, and VGA monitor port.
