Thank you so much for your video. I bought these gutters after seeing this video the first time, but did not have confidence enough in myself to do this work. So I paid some handy-men to do the job. The gutters leaked from day one, but I thought that was because they didn't apply sealant and so it was on my list to complete this. I got my ladder out today to clean the gutters and apply the sealant and I see that these people have installed the gutters completely wrong. I am shocked and also now pretty mad. I took down their poor work and started re-installing the new ones I have bought myself. It's not terribly hard, I should have done it myself the first time. Your instruction has helped so much, thank you.

I just want to thank you for creating this video to help beginners. I'm glad I had the tools needed to put this gutter system together and was able to purchase all the items needed in store (bonus: it was on sale) and assemble it with minimal issues. My husband and I were having an issue with our sliding patio doors pooling water into our house. I ended up having to remove the trim and caulking in order to determine what the problem was. After figuring it out that the drainage holes were blocked upon installation, I wanted to use extra precautions by allowing the water to drain into a vessel and decided to search for ways to install a gutter system, if possible. I found your video! It was extremely easy to follow; the links you provided were very helpful and the followed your advice to slide the gutter hooks and the downspout exit on the gutter prior to securing to wood. I was even able to use my concrete drill bit for the first time to secure the downspout bracket to the brick wall. It was a lot of work, but I am glad I was able to put it all together with your guidance. Thanks again!

I’m a seamless gutter installer and definitely prefer aluminum over vinyl, just because they will last longer and are more withstanding of extreme temp change, but this was pretty good man! The only suggestion I have would be to start install from your gutter high point and level down. A lot of houses out there that have settled or shifted over time. They may look right from 15’ away but can be extremely off when installing. GJ though. Vinyl gutter stock has definitely improved over the past 20 years lol
@eric63453 жыл бұрын
I can't imagine why anyone would choose these sectional gutters over a seamless gutter system. It seems to me that the more seams and connections one has on the length of their gutter, the more risk they would have of a connection failing.
@jeffdyrland27953 жыл бұрын
@@eric6345 honestly, me either! Seamless is definitely the way to go in this day and age! I can’t begin to tell you just how much of the sectional vinyl (and aluminum, galvanized, etc) I have torn down over the years! I’ve been running seamless gutter for about 20 years and unless the installer doesn’t know what he’s doing, it’s fool-proof!

Hope the joint connectors have enough downhill to let water over the interior piece. I have the same system and, problem is after 1 year having bit water constantly sitting between joints because of the gutter interior piece being so thick, they all leak. So, so sad...
@davidhendricksgolfprofessi23218 ай бұрын
@@jeffdyrland2795 I have an older home with a 60' run. Presently there is a seamless gutter here, but with wind and branches always falling the gutters have taken direct hits and they are deformed in a couple of places so water spills over the edge. Considered replacing the seamless gutter but now I am thinking sections(either alum or vyn) because I think they would be easier to repair than a seamless.
@jeffdyrland27958 ай бұрын
@@davidhendricksgolfprofessi2321yes and no. It definitely sucks when a 60+ foot long piece of gutter gets damaged. Just because you have to replace the whole thing. Doing a long run like that with sections can be a huge pain though. Can be tough to get the grade right too. But replacing damaged sections at a time usually ends up leaking at the seams at some point down the road. But hey, it might be a good option if you constantly have branches falling on your house. Or you could try upping the gauge of aluminum you use. If you get a good .032 aluminum and use hangers every 16” (provided your fascia is 2x) it’s very solid and dent resistant. But I don’t know what you have on your house now.

I have these exact same gutters installed now. They've been up there for at least 10 years now. I took them down to paint and decided on all new gutters since, at 48 cents a foot, it would be easier to install new ones, plus the joiners would need new seals or caulking. I'll probably re-use the hangers but will need new joiners. The aluminum were not that much more expensive but I wanted to match my existing down spouts. I'm watching these videos because I don't remember how I installed them in the first place. It's been a long time. These gutters do last. No snow where I live, however.

@ColtinCalloway9 ай бұрын
@@Bond-James-Bond- Funny you ask. The downspout connectors are not assembled to only have water go down I guess. Might be hard to explain but most of the connectors have water either dripping out of them or have a small beaded stream continuously flowing from them. I've tried to caulk them with several different kinds of caulk and so far none of them worked. It drives me crazy, but I just haven't taken the true amount of time to just take them down and get the problem fixed. I need to do that. I blame none of this on your awesome tutorial though.

Try installing vinyl gutters in the midwest, especially northern midwest. Brutal winters with normal negative -30 winters and lots and lots of snow. They do not do well in that climate. I think a good life would be a few years, whereas aluminum lasts for a good 10+ years here. The good news is that if vinyl gutters crack, warp, they usually are cheap to replace the section, at about 6.5 dollars per 10ft linear. Snow really messes up vinyl gutters through.

Over a number of years I have noticed if there as open space between the drip guard bottom and the gutter it can be a way water can get in and eventually cause some damage. I have taken thin cheap aluminum slashing and shoved it under the drip guard and let it go about 1 inch into the gutter. If you are installing the gutter brackets as seen here you can do this step prior to installation, or if you do this to existing gutters or if want to cut the aluminum flashing around the brackets (good scissors work well), that method also works..

9:25 you can have two pieces, but don't Even with sealant, after a while it will leak. Use one piece and cut a hole. The downspout has holes for hanging. If doing this solo, you can mount your downspout first which makes that first piece go up easier. Also, avoid using caulk with vinyl. Pretty much nothing sticks permanently to vinyl including most glues. RTV would probably be your best bet if you have to do repairs but most caulks, even silicone will not stick permanently to vinyl.

Great video! Thank you. I have a straight 22 foot gutter run on the back of a separate garage. The downspout will go on one end. Very simple job. Do you think it would be better to assemble the entire gutter (except for the downspout) and then hang the big section, or would it be better to hang it in two sections? I hope that makes sense. Thank you again!

Great job on explaining with simplicity. It looks easy to work with vinyl gutters. The only concern I have is whether I can lean a ladder on it. Is this gutter strong enough to withstand a 24’ aluminum ladder?

Great video, I think I will use vinyl on my project, your instructions are great. One question, do you need any flashing between the drip edge and the gutter to protect the wood?

I live in Thailand. I used to have stainless steel gutters but they corroded where the gutter lengths overlapped. I changed to UPVC 8 years ago & they been great & never had a problem or leak. I read they are supposed to last between 15 to 30 years depending on quality of the material & how much sun light they get, but when mine come to the end of their life I will just replace them again with UPVC. A good rule of thumb for rainfall we get in Thailand & Philippines is 1 sq. Inch of down pipe area per 6.5 m2 of catchment area (floor area the roof is covering regardless of roof slope) which comes out at 45m2 of catchment area for a 3 inch diameter down comer pipe & 82m2 for a 4 inch down comer. So if your roof is covering a floor area of 128 m2 & you got 3 inch diameter down comers then 128 divided by 45 = 2.84, round up to 3 & that is the number of 3 inch down comers you need. If you using 4 inch down comers then it will be 128 divided by 82 = 1.56 & again you will round up to 2 & that is the number of 4 inch down comers you need.

Thanks for the video. Well made, with a good pace. Question: At the low end, you have a small area beyond the drain hole that will collect a small amount of standing water. Are you at all concerned about mosquitoes?

Suggestion. If you live in an area that gets heavy downpours or have gutters that carry runoff from multiple roof profiles then go with 6 inch gutters! The 4 inch builders usually install just do not work well for heavy rains.

Question, does this particular manufacturer also offer the product in 6" systems too?
