Where did you get the red tip for the Caulkin gun.

Hi! They’re called caulk caps and here’s a quick link on where I got them 👍🏽😊: amzn.to/3l7jczn

Thank you ever so much! We really need to learn how to do this. And squeezing the tube was not something we liked. So now I know to get a dripless gun.

I can appreciate your video and I’d like to offer some of my professional advice. If you don’t have the caulk caps, painters tape works also. Just wrap some tape over the tip and it’ll preserve the caulk for a long time. I’ve opened some months later and it’s still fine. Also there are tools for doing the caulking clean up other than your finger. Walmart carries them and so far they’re the only place I’ve found that does. It’s a red and black tool with a rubber triangle on one end and a metal caulk remover as well as a plastic scraper on the other end. The things are great and I but them every chance I get. Another tip is when you have excess is to find those larger gaps like above doors or around windows, and use that excess before it dries to fill in the space so there’s no wasted money on you or your customer. You can also use the caulk carefully with the tool I mentioned in filling caulk lines and it works perfectly. When doing intersecting corners, make sure you keep the tip of the caulking gun clean so it doesn’t gob up the work you’ve already put into the other corners. Just a few extra words of advice from a seasoned carpenter and much more ☺️ hopefully that helps someone

I am so glad I watched your video this morning, for years as a do it yourselfer I have struggled with using the old type caulk guns and spending a lot of time going back over the caulking smoothing it out and wiping countless times so it would look good wasting a lot of caulk and having a very messy situation, your caulking tips are very valuable to me and I greatly appreciate your videos to help make projects easier, Thank you!

Thank you for your great video. I just tried silicone caulk vs the latex which I have always used. Didn't realize if you get it on your fingers, it's hard to get off. I discovered if I put some paper towels in a bucket of water and pulled one out and made a loose ball, I could smooth the bead and it didn't stick to the paper towel. I was caulking the bases to my outside porch columns, so the bead didn't have to be as perfect as doing a project inside. Just thought I would pass it along in case there is someone new to silicone caulk. Thanks.

Good one! Painters tape + soapy water trick, that's the ticket! And keep a damp rag nearby to remove the excess that can build up on your finger tips on long runs. I like the mini rubber caps, but first i stick a screw in it; helps clean out the dried gunk when you go back a few weeks later

Love all of your tips...I'm always wasting caulk running my finger over it to smooth it out. The caulk caps are a great tip, and I will be buying some. I always stick a nailor screwin the tip which is never air tight and allows the caulk around the edges to harden in turn making a terrible line coming out hence having to finger smooth and wasting caulk. Great tips thank you!

Great caulking suggestions! Marking the top of the tube will solve an ongoing problem of mine, can’t believe I never thought of it! To seal an open tube, I use fingers cut from old latex gloves secured with a rubber band which work well and are also reusable, but I may try the tube caps. I’ve never been a fan of painter’s tape-no matter how careful I am when I remove the tape, the edges of the caulk lift up and create a step, and with some practice I don’t think it’s necessary for good results. Many thanks for your helpful vids!

You have to remove tape right away and sometimes the edges of silicon lift up, so run your finger again.

Super handy and perfect timing. Currently sealing up a detached garage and am dreading having to break out the caulking gun, one of my least favorite jobs to do. One other tip I was shown in the past is to use an ice cube to wipe the excess. It will naturally mold itself to the angle and is always wet so it's easy to wipe off, then just get another once it melts.
