The pain of loving someone who doesn't reciprocate, someone who can't love you for you but expects you to act and look a certain way, which isn't you at all. All the hurdles you jump through, how you physically isolate yourself just to fight for their attention and love. No more.

I admire her for the simple fact that she works her butt off. She writes her own lyrics, music and dance moves. She's 100% involved in everything that has her name on it, including her videos. She continues to try hard to improve her voice and performance so she can grow as an artist. But mostly I admire her because in the face of some of the most horrible cyber bullying I've witnessed, all because of who she's romantically involved with, she holds her head high, smiles and continues to work very hard to make her dreams come true. She's been threatened, called racist names and accused of some of the dumbest things but she rises above it all. Who couldn't respect that? I hope nothing but the best for her in the future.

It's beautiful how her hair represents her heart. And, like a pendulum, she's suspended by it and it won't let her go. But she knows that the love she feels for the person is not mutual (not anymore, at least). So she tries to reach freedom from this feeling (by touching the water with her foot). Then she's not suspended anymore, which means that her heart knows the way to forget that person. But, even though she's not tied up in the feeling anymore, it is still there and she's too afraid to let it go, so she won't let her hair touch the water. However, she's tired of the torture. And in a moment of sadness and reflexion, she decides give up and let the water wash the feeling away. She's not a pendulum anymore. And she is now free.

@celestetrevon53117 жыл бұрын
Lisa Pagliei-ventura I suppose you meant "read the bible"? You mean the one with genocide? Or the one condoning slavery? Or maybe it's the one we're god sends bears to kill children for making fun of a guy? Or is it the one we're the punishment of raping a woman was forcing her to marrying her with no chance of divorce, basically forcing her to be with her rapist forever. Or is it the one calling for the stoning of adulterers, gay people, and more? Oh wait! My bad! It's all the same one. And don't come at me with that "but that's the Old Testament" crap. Your god is supposedly all-knowing and unchanging, he couldn't have had a "change of heart" and decided his cruelty was wrong, he probably was cruel for a reason, and a 'god' that uses cruelty as a way to strike fear in his 'children' isn't an all loving, all merciful one, thinking about it with your own brain for 5 minutes makes you realize how it makes no sense. But it doesn't have to make sense, because it's all fiction, and fiction shouldn't make sense. I normally would never talk to a religious person that way, but you shoving your beliefs onto something that has no place for them is insufferable.

All I could hear when I watched this is what she's said about the experience of directing this video and how detailed her vision is: "I had to explain to the cameraman that ‘you’ve done it from a man’s eye view’,” she says. “’You’re shooting and you’re going from my face down to my chest and it’s great but it’s not me’. I was like ‘let’s look at my calves, let’s look at feet tied up, let’s look at the marks on my arms, let’s find things that are more interesting’." She's easily one of the most exciting artists I've seen in a long time. What a goddess.
@jessicacerullo31559 жыл бұрын
Shibari is a powerful statement. My favorite part about shibari are the marks on the body left from the rope. Knowing this bit of info really helped me appreciate her use of shibari, especially knowing she intentionally brought in a non-male perspective into sexuality. That's incredibly difficult to do. Thanks!

Jessica Cerullo 100% agree. It's so rare to see any aspect of bondage styles or more broadly BDSM lifestyle treated with respect and nuance. Somehow she's managed to do that in several of her videos, most notably this one and Papi Pacify. And given how she sometimes talks about power and sensuality etc., she's really self-aware about it. It's very cool to see.

This song is not coming from a position of being invested in a relationship the other person doesn't want. They each want the other, but one communicates very verbally, and the other communicates in silent ways. The verbal one doesn't understand this kind of expression of love, and they want her to change how she voices her feelings. They are both very frustrated by this issue. They do not feel loved, because for them the love she is giving is not enough. They want her to vocalize it. But while she is trying, her efforts are not coming through enough. She just wants them to see her for who she is and accept her form of affection enough to know and feel that they are loved. Because she does actually love them; but they can't accept it without her explicitly voicing her affection.
@dylanbuchman81288 жыл бұрын
She can't have time to herself without them feeling neglected and unwanted, and their constancy and verbal expression of their feelings that is not compatible with her personality is making her become more reserved--worsening the problem. She is thinking about them in a way they would like, but because they are demanding she change so that they can hear her love. Because they are hurting her.

Dylan Buchman wow i don’t know who you are and you probably won’t see this because you commented three years ago lol. but thank you so much for your in depth explanation of this incredible form of art. you made me realize something about myself that i’ve been confused about for a while. it has to do with relationships and media these days. and i feel like your explanation relates to that a lot.because people are so used to others showing their love and affection over text or even verbally some type of way and recently someone has told me “ Selah, I really like you but it’s not working how I thought it was gonna work in my head We just say gm, have a dry ass convo then I wait for you to text me several hours later then I say how was your day then it repeats I don’t know what we are, but I don’t want anything to be forced so I just think we should stay friends for now Maybe in the near future when we can see each other more hang out more and just vibe more we can try again “ and honestly i thought maybe something was wrong with me. but i’m not worried about constantly reassuring someone that i like them over text . i feel if that if i text someone atleast once day a day that should be enough and they shouldn’t be so insecure in themself and question my love for them but nowadays people need that form of reassurance over text or even verbalized. and now that i’ve read your comment i can finally realize i can still love someone and be interested while at the same time not conforming to society’s standards of having to text someone everyday to show interest and if someone can’t accept that . then they’re not the one for me if they’re unintentionally “demanding me to change“
@geenakasonso25965 жыл бұрын
@@selahcandelaria19 you probably also won't see this. Lol But I can relate to this also because my way of showing people love has nothing to do with how much we talk to me its about what we feel for each other about how were always going to be there for each other and for the longest time I thought I had a problem I'm still coming to terms with this but now i feel better knowing they're people like me who don't think to prove you love someone you need to talk to them everyday. As long as I'm there for them each time I need them and vice versa I'm good but I guess people have been cultured to believe you talk everyday means showing care. But that's beyond our control. I've actually just lost my bestfriend recently because of this.

I've seen this song not only as he is need her to express her love with more words, but he is demanding, he expects to this introvert woman, to be extrovert as he is, to talk more, to be what he wants her to be, what he expects. She can't be like this and trying to it's painful for her, she found herself trying to say what he would like that she would say, not what she wants, she have to think twice before speak, and this is an exhaustive work for her

It is wonderful and inspiring that you were able to find solace in art and that you are remaining you, remaining strong and worthy as you were always meant to be and always have been. Those songs have gotten and still do get me through the toughest moments.

In my opinion right now we are experiencing a time in the music industry where it's hard to not repeat whats already been done or do things that sound similar. Right now everything in pop music sounds similar and there's not really much that is distinguishing from the crowd. I think that FKA Twigs is the future of music and maybe her music doesn't seem to make sense but atleast it's 10x different then what Flo Rida and Maroon 5 are doing. I think that's why people like FKA, Grimes, Sia and Kendrick Lamar are going so well cause they are offering something new or unseen to the music industry.

I think she's talented and I want to like her, but her songs don't feel finished to me. Her songs are like really long intros to something cooler that never happens. I respect that she isn't creating music to be popular or to pander to the masses, and that she really just want's to represent something honest, but it isn't coming together for me personally. I think part of the problem is that her songs are a lot about the words and the poetry, but I don't really care about that stuff. I listen to music for the melody and the beat, and the instruments.

What an interestingly crafted music video. She is literally/metaphorically restricted by her own insecurities, blinded into thinking she should act a certain way (*sweet little love-maker*). As the video progresses her emotions begin to stir like the waves in an ocean and similarly to the crests and troughs she begins to fluctuate between two states of mind, one being restricted and the other unrestricted (*sweet little love-maker* VS. *what a forsaken cause*). The video culminates in her finally freeing herself from her own restrictions where she is free to be herself and express herself clearly with a sprinkling of resentment (*How does it feel to have me thinking about you?*). She is done with you playa.

She's certainly an acquired taste for some. I hated her music at first, except for Papi Pacify, but I listened to a mixtape of all her music on youtube. Then I bought all her songs on itunes. I think it might be especially hard for people who aren't into chill music. I could be wrong.

***** I've listened to various genre's of chill music. Tycho is my favorite. But I agree with you 100%. I'm still going to follow her, I'll be waiting for the next album to see if its more of my speed. But she is still amazing. I'd love to see her in concert.
@sumoni9 жыл бұрын
***** I'll check Tycho out, I'm always interested in something new. :) I recommend her concerts over her MVs. Her stage presence is amazing and she's getting a lot better singing at them from when she first started. I'd love to see her in concert as well, but by the time I actually started liking her music, she just finished a concert in my town.

Both.Bjork and FKA twigs are artist that use music to express their creativity. They use videos to make art and do things that people don't necessarily get . What people don't understand is that just because the music industry is filled with a bunch of artist doing the same thing and singing about the same stuff doesn't mean that there can't be a few artist that actually don't copy each other .people compare the two together because they are very alike in the the fact that they are artist . But they are very different artist in general. We need to stop comparing the two and appreciate that they both did and are doing shit that artist nowadays can't fathom doing . When it comes to something as artistic and complex as videos like this there's no way people can copy it . None can copy Bjork because you would need to have the same mind as her and think just like her . But no one can't you need to have a very strong complex mind and thinking power to think of shit that both of these lady's have done . You can't copy a type of art form you can only try and mimic it . But even then it's not to the same standards as the original

If you're reading this and you're in a relationship with someone who doesn't love you back, let me tell you this. I been there and it's not worthy. No matter how hard you try to like them or how much you change yourself to please them. You can even lose your friends and stop talking to people, witch it's funny cause they won't do the same for you. Stop it. Don't do that to yourself, you can do better. You can find someone who really likes you, someone who trust you.
