Flåm Railway in Winter: Norway's World Famous Train Journey in Winter

Have you ever taken Norway's Flam Railway? The spectacular one hour ride from mountains to fjord is known as one of the world's most beautiful train journeys. It's massively popular in the summer with day trippers and cruise ship visitors. But I wanted to check it out in the winter.

This video is a day trip from Bergen to Flåm, taking in the Bergen Line and a return trip on the Flåm Line in mid-December. There is plenty of snow on the mountains and in the village of Flam itself. Enjoy!

I just returned from there, it is worth staying one full day in Flam, go to Gudvangen visit viking valley and Stegastein viewpoint, so beautiful in Flam, and small town around.

I went there in mid of January 24, absolutely stunning in Flam, strongly recommend stay 1 or 2 nights, must visit Gudvangen and Stegastein Viewpoint

Hi! Thank you for the lovely video. Would you recommend a little trip there between 27-29 December at all? I have read many mixed advices. I've been to Flåm before but would love to head there for a change of scenery.

Personally I wouldnt choose to visit Norway during that time as it’s mostly family-focused and a lot of attractions will be closed. It’s also the darkest time of the year - something to bear in mind.

Thank you for this wonderful video! 😊 How long did it take from Bergen to Bergen? I‘ll be in Bergen by cruise ship for the third time in 2024, and this looks like a very good idea to spend the day. 👍

I left Bergen at 0811 and got back at 1520 (should have been 1500 but the train was running late). Just be wary that there aren't many trains on either route, so you have to judge the risk of getting back to Bergen on time.

Thank you 😀 That needs a lot more time than I expected. 🤭 So I think I won‘t risk that, as the ship is leaving at 6 pm. And I am very bad in getting up so early. 🙈 It will be my fourth cruise to Norway, unfortunately Flåm has never been on my route so far. But I will go there one of the next times. 😊
