I made an experimental flagpole vertical antenna. It seems it works the best as an off center fed antenna for 20 and 15 meters. My goal is to create antennas which are resonate into 50 ohms where no tuner is needed. Many are asking about the SWR Analyser. It is an HP-8712B.

My grandfather, uncle, cousin, and I are all ham operators we are involved with arrl have met with hundreds of other operators. I can safely say that I’ve never seen another operator with a similar garage setup, at least only referring to the workbench that was displayed in video. That is, however, a very nice workbench set up.

I like your idea of not using tuners. I use older radios without built in tuners. I used to have a tri band beam but I live in West Texas where the wind blows all the time and it was destroying the beam and the rotator, so I installed an OCF dipole and got it resonant on 10, 20, 40, and 80 meters. The wind doesn’t affect it and I’ve talked to multiple countries. Good luck with all your projects. 73.

The simplest, easiest antenna for 30-160 is an Alpha Delta DX-B 1/4 wave sloper. My lot is 60'x180' with the neighbors' houses 20' away. Once upon a time I had a Butternut Butterfly beam on a 30 foot TV tower but when the wind took the tower down a Cushcraft R5 replaced the beam.

Lots of wind issues here too. The PVC spacer in the flag pole gives it a lot of flex.

As I used my cheap Harbor Freight Flag pole, for an antenna mast, I drill and used pins to go thru the mast, instead of fighting with Hose clamps ! No more worry of variable wind speeds vibrating mast to collapse ! Just a thought ! As everyone has their own way of doing things ! The pins I used, have metal rings on one end, making for easy disassembly ! 👍😉

Run a single radial into the water and feed it at the SO connector with 1/4 inch spaced coil in the insulating section. Use a remote tuner at the base where you have the balun and you are in big DX business. With a remote tuner/coupler, you should have 80 and up. No ladder line to attract neighbors attention. Slot and clamp the sections to stop wind effect.

Nice job. Congratulations on your new antenna. With a little fine tuning and an antenna tuner, it looks like you’ll have stealthy setup covering 3-4 bands. I’m wondering about your electrical grounding though. The way I understand it you should have all your electrical grounds bonded to the main grounding point (usually at your mains panel EGC). Otherwise you have a ground loop condition which opens you up to the potential of a varying ground reference and RFI, not to mention ground voltage gradients and last but not least, code violations. You might want to look into it.

Interesting project. What is the reason it has to be sealed with no drain hole in the bottom? seems like condensate from nighttime dew and rain is going to accumulate down there no matter how much flex seal you use. It should have a way out. Hopefully that doesnt become a problem.

Great videos about flag pole antennas. I was thinking that your flag pole antenna might experience a much greater improvement if you added four ground radials about 2-3” below the soil, especially if you want to do 10-12 meters and 40 meters also. I get these big plastic jars at Sam’s Club and Costco for my Skittles and M&M’s. They have these one inch tall by 5” diameter plastic lids that I drilled 16 holes all around the lid. I then drilled two one inch holes on top to run my vertical ground spike through and the other with a Anderson PP panel connector. So I threaded 22ga awg wire through those 16 holes to make eight radials @ 8’3” and eight at @15’ and these ground radials work awesome. With your flag pole antenna, it seems to me that you made a 25’ vertical antenna in principle. For 10-12 meters, I think the ideal height is between 96”-112” but I’ve done those same bands at 11’ with 1.4 SWR. If I knew you personally and lived near you, I would ❤ to test out my Xiegu G90 @ 20 watts with it’s built in antenna analyzer and built in antenna tuner. My G90 will Tuna Fish and a beer can, maybe even a full one…😂🤣😂 Thanks for the video! Here in HOA Land, flag poles can be the only way to go for most folks wanting to play HF. 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻 Todd WH6DWF 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

your GROUND ROD IS IN VIOLATION OF NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE. Nothing in Art. 800 indicates grounding antennas. When you ground the coax and connect it to the radio, you violate Art. 250.24 ,(a)(5) TWICE: May not reground at the load May not ground a not normally current carrying conductor.
