Really surprised at Andrew's knowledge on the Jamaican Dancehall influence on Hip-Hop, 💯% true and accurate 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 They called it Toast or Toasting back then and the Master of The Ceremony (MC) would "chat/toast" over the DJ playing the beats. When Jamaicans started immigrating to America they mainly settled in the East, New York. With their sound systems and big speakers they had, the American black community started to gravitate to these big parties outside the Jamaicans Blocks. They took it up and it developed into Hip-Hop 👌🏽

@HouseJawn2 жыл бұрын
@@levelofsnipes7378 raves were going on in America back in the early 90s. Although obviously not the center of sound, plenty of American djs help push the sound. It absolutely wasn't mainstream but to people into underground counter culture music in general, rave music was well known with the hip hop, punk/industrial and reggae crowds. In terms of audio, other than the actual event's, people sold and traded mixtapes, like actual cassette tapes PS - plus the vinyl records were sold in music stores catering to Djs. Don't forget that America still contributed a significant portion of the culture to dance music, with early disco and house. So psychedelic dance music had been here since day 1. Electronic music has always been international but blossomed in Europe
@HouseJawn2 жыл бұрын
@@levelofsnipes7378 forgot to mention AOL started in 95, and Napster around 98 or 99. So file sharing started just a few years later. Plus there was some Electronic music that went mainstream on MTV in America like Bjork, Prodigy, Portishead and Moorcheeba in the early and late 90s. So it wasn't as isolated as you may think 😊

Americans will never quite understand what grime is, it's NOT UK hip hop, the UKHH scene was a completely separate thing and there was little crossover and collaborations between the two. It's really hard to explain what grime is if you didn't grow up with it but the main difference to me would be grime is more about the instrumental, the MC is the accompaniment to the instrumental. In hip hop, it's more about the rap, the instrumental is the accompaniment to the rap. It's more about live pirate radio sets rather than studio tracks, a live DJ mixing the instrumentals and the MCs spitting the bars they have over the live mix.

Kano is an underrated actor, dope to see this side of him

I've noticed a few times Kano holds back from his real opinion on things, especially educating Americans on how things are in UK. But when you hear his music, he's completely different. I wish he was less scared to put Americans in their place sometimes.

Kano knows you can't educate idiots, laughing at them half the interview not with them.

Good to know quite a few of us recognized a lot of the insensitive comments and remarks. Guys like this make it clear to me it's no surprise a lot of the world laughs at us.

I guess you don’t watch or listen to their podcast because they’re like this with everyone if you were waiting for some sort of sensitivity, wrong place to be.

I genuinely appreciate how shulz tried/did tap into the British culture 😂 so refreshing to see from an American nothing but respect "Fam" you're are officially one of the "Mandem" haha

Always loved kano growing up, his newer music isn't my thing but can confidently say he hasn't sold out. Guy deserves his dues, never been flashy or annoying, just goes about and does his thing. Absolute legend and the utmost respect to him!

The crazy thing about this is Kano rarely does interviews but Flagrant managed to secure an interview.

Did not expect American comedians to give one of the best Kano interviews; great questions, good research just great show altogether

I hope Kano takes acting to the next level. I can't give him enough props. I believe that playing Sully gave him an opportunity to show multiple dimensions of his acting prowes, cause Sully was such a complex character. I think he'd be good in a comedy role too, he has an unassuming demeanour, which would make him good in "black comedy", Ricky Gervais type comedy.
