"the first time I had money" He sol the HBO show for 800k. I like Casey but there's always a little tint to his stories where you can see him bullshitting you a little bit. There's always a small lie to his presentation, which is ironic because his brand is supposed to be authenticity. He also *chose* not to have money, his dad owns a business and his family has money. He just dropped out of school and wanted to live on his own. He always had a support backup if he needed it. And when he came to NYC, it's not like he worked from the ground up. His brother Van worked for TOM SACHS. TOM FUCKING SACHS. That's where he got his start AND HIS WHOLE STYLE FROM. I hated seeing him being celebrated in 2014 for being this new daily vlogger when 1) he didn't invent daily vlogging and there were people in the guiness book of records by then for vlogging for years and 2) his whole style and ideas are copied from someone else. A true grifter from the start

I distinctly remember watching his daily vlogs back then. What drew the crowd wasnt the content of his vlogs but rather the production value. @EuanH91 Жыл бұрын
Daily vlogging had been a thing for years, but they were mostly just people holding whatever camera and talking to it.. really low key handheld stuff. Casey was the first guy to use proper film-making chops in daily vlogs. The way he set up his shots, used timelapses and drone footage to set up locations, the way he used music, his editing, etc. There would be vlogs where he would tell a story about something over multiple shots taken over 12+ hours as he flew half way round the world, starting in his apartment to arriving in his hotel in a different country, and it would flow as if he was just talking to you in real time. That takes planning, storyboarding, etc. That's the stuff that had never been done. His style is now imitated by nearly every vlogger on KZbin.. or especially back between 2015-2019, maybe less so now.
