I’m Dutch! This was a very interesting video to watch. The reason why they replaced the Orange with Red is because Orange wasn’t that well visible at sea. Red was also a cheaper color to get.

Wales has the best flag in the world. Period. That's the reason why I already likes Wales as a kid, because I totally was into dragons :D But my interest for Wales was always there and became stronger and stronger in recent years. You can be proud of your flag and your country.

1. Wales is so cool! I love the dragon it's so feisty for such a small nation! 2. I love how you deal with these topics, you are here to educate and it shows. You understand that there's some tension in some areas of these things and you acknowledge them and show that you are not there to address them but to address the brilliance behind each thing. It's very refreshing in today's society and something I have found myself actively implementing into my own life. Thank you for the influence you hold and the good you do with it! I love this channel the only thing I don't like is you get me so relaxed and sleepy but you talk about such interesting things I don't want to fall asleep and it's just a cycle of nodding off and being completely fascinated! Thank you and have the most spectacular new year : )

3:45 The Habsburgs owned the Netherlands for about a hundred years starting from around 1482 until 1579 when the Dutch declared independence, though they fought for this freedom for another 80 years give or take. Of those hundred years, they were specifically under Spain for only a few decades before the revolt broke out, as previously both Spain and the Low Countries were under a unified Habsburg crown. What is now Belgium was actually under Spanish rule for another 200 years until the 1790s.

The orange carrots for the royal family is sadly just a story, it is true that dutch farmers started mainly producing only orange carrots but this was because they simply grew better/sold better. the orange carrot became somewhat of a global standard because of mass exportation, the story was only added later for fun i guess.

The Channel Islands and even the Isle of Man are British, They have dominion status (Greater autonomy) like Canada from 1867-1931, Australia 1901-1942, New Zealand 1907-1947. Britain is responsible for their protection and can over rule the islands government if they wish but don't

I don't normally do this, comment on videos, but I felt the need to comment here this time. You said in the video that 'Northern Irelamd doean't have a flag' and that is only partly correct. Northern Ireland doea not have an 'official' flag but the one im your book is the 'neutral' flag of the country. The white and red saltire flag is called the saint patrick's saltire and therefore Northern Ireland is fully represented on the flag of the United Kingdom. The people and community I belong to in Northern Ireland, however, do still, very proudly, use the Red Hand Of Ulster to represent them. The Red Hand flag was created when Northern Ireland became a seperate country in its own right, when a vote was taken to ask the people if they wanted to stay British and a part of Great Britain and the people said yes, they did. The story behind the flag came from the days of history. Two men, believed to be Kings, wanted to claim the land which is now Northern Ireland as their own so a race in boats was devised and the rule was that the first of the two men who got to a certain point on the land and laid his hand on it first got to claim the country as his own. So off the two men went. One of the men saw that he was losing, and really he didn't want to, so in a ditch of desperation, he got out his sword, cut off one of his own hands - originally believed to be the left one - picked it up and threw it with all of his strength to try to get it to land on the shore first. It worked and he won as technically the rule never stated that the hand had to be attached to the body, so the handless chap was granted the country as his. When I was a child, I distinctly remember seeing the original Red Hand flag flying around, and especially on Parade Day on the 12th July. Under the hand there used to be three drops of blood, but how they ended up being erased over time is not something I know, hence my earlier comment about it being somewhat sanitised. To my people, this will always be the original flag of Northern Ireland. It represented my community then and it still does today and always will do. No matter how much any authority tries to erase it, remove it from us, ban it, they won't succeed. It is our flag that represents us and we will always fly it and be proud of it. Sorry for the long post, but I hope you find the information useful.

I'm from Jersey, so I can't speak for Guernsey, but here at least I don't really think there's that many people that can speak French despite our proximity to the country. Our road names are in French and our legal documents are as well, but I just can't think of all that many people that know the language beyond perhaps a few basic phrases. I'm local, so I don't know the rules around buying property if you weren't born here, but seeing as less than half our population is native I can't imagine it's that hard. I'm just going to copy and paste whatever information I find out about it below if anybody cares. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Control of Housing and Work (Jersey) Law, 2012 This law replaced three laws which controlled the occupation of property in the island, the commencement of new businesses, and the control of the employees they engaged. The new law requires all people who have been resident on the island for three months or more to register. When you register, a card is issued which will have certain categories printed on it determining your status, these categories are explained below. Entitled Entitled persons may occupy and buy any property in the island. To fall into this category you may be either: 1. born in Jersey and have lived on the island for a period or periods amounting to a total of 10 years or more; 2. non-Jersey born but have lived on the island for a continuous period of 10 years or more; 3. non-Jersey born person who arrived in Jersey before the age of 20 whose parents have lived in Jersey for 10 years or more and who has lived in Jersey for more than 10 years before reaching the age of 40; or 4. a person who has been granted the status on hardship or granted the status on social and economic grounds as in the best interests of the community. Licensed People with this status used to be called “J Category” occupiers under Article 1 (1)(J) of the former statute. This special status is granted to “essential employees”. People registered with this status may also buy and sell any property provided it is occupied as their principal place of residence. Often the licence will be time limited. If the employment linked to the special status is lost then the property must be sold. Entitled for work People with this status will fall into one of the following categories. Someone who: 1. has lived in the island for a continuous period of 5 years or more; 2. is the spouse of a person with entitled, licensed or entitled for work status; 3. was divorced from a person less than 5 years ago who had the above status; or 4. started working for an undertaking in Jersey before the age of 16 and has been working for the undertaking since that age. They may be engaged to work by a business just as a person who holds Entitled Status. They may not occupy Qualified Property by themselves. Registered A person who has been continuously resident in the island for three months or longer and does not fall into any of the above categories. They may occupy property designated as “Registered” rather than “Qualified”. They may not buy property in the island. Company acquisition of property There are policies which prevent the purchase of residential properties in the name of a company. Companies need a specific consent to buy property. Companies may lease non-residential properties such as shops or offices without consent. Other than the lease of non-residential land or a lease to a public utility, all other leases and purchases by a company requires the advance consent of the Housing Minister. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
