One tip I have for other flair users that want to preheat using steam and don’t have anything around the house to do so, just use the drip panel (with holes) that comes with the flair. Lay it on top of your kettle, and the holes allow steam to flow up into the brewing chamber for preheating

I wonder how it lines up with Kamira. I like the styling, but there are a lot of loose components. It seems more versatile on energy usage, though, since you are literally only using hot water. Kamira uses all stainless steel in their build. I'm really liking the minimalism of the Kamira. The styling and versatility of the Flair Pro 2 plus the energy versatility is making the multiple component issue thing almost a non-issue entirely. Great Video, thank you. I have just started using my Flair 2 Pro today. However, I am having an issue that I am not sure how to correct now. I have an OXO Burr Grinder. In the process of finding the right grind level, I have now gone all the way down to the finest setting on the grinder. And yet still I get hardly any resistance when I pull my shot, and the pressure gauge does not even move. My Water temp is 200 degrees F, and I have adjusted the volume of beans from 0.71 oz down to 0.5 oz to no avail. I preheat in the same manner as the video, my tamping is on a level surface. It seems I am following everything as required. My Burr grinder is at least 7 years old now. It's cleaned on a regular basis and I run rice through it on a regular basis to remove oily build-up. Could my Burr grinder be too dull now. Or is it possible the pressure gauge is defective?

Hmm...I have noticed people put the metal shower screen both ways: with the flat side down facing the compressed coffee, and also with the flat part facing up away from the compressed coffee. In this video, from the official Flair Professor himself, he seems to put it flat side up. But in other videos they tend to do the opposite- and while they are not from the official Flair company- they are affiliated and seem like sound coffee experts themselves. Yet if I refer to the official brewing guide, it doesn't show nor direct you which way to put the shower screen. Does anyone know if it makes a difference and if there is a correct way??
@FlairEspresso3 жыл бұрын
We left it out of the brewing guide because there's no conclusive evidence to suggest one way is in fact better than another. The difference in appearance was not by design, only by manufacturing process to make these holes in stainless steel thicknesses such as used here and in portafilter baskets. If it messes with your head, stick to one direction every time so you have one less variable ;)

@FlairEspresso3 жыл бұрын
if you're "bottoming out" on the area of the basket where it starts tapering before you can achieve a good tamp, the dose is too low for that coffee. 18g for most medium and definitely darker roasts should be absolutely fine but some ultra-light roasts will be too dense perhaps. we've recently addressed this concern of light roasts and low doses with an update to the portafilter that should allow you to drop down to 16g or less.

So for a lever machine the 25-30 secound extraction rule does not apply?
@FlairEspresso3 жыл бұрын
It does when you have a shallow puck of coffee roughly the same height as used in wider 58mm baskets, and when using a very high quality grinder similar to what you find in your local café. Elsewise you will need more contact time with the slightly coarser grind needed to not choke a taller puck of coffee bed typically used in narrow basket lever. Similarly if your grinder is putting out a wide range of coffee particles you need more time to extract the larger ones in the mix. Flair 58 for example will more closely observe that commercial standard while levers with narrower baskets may not

Great shot! I received my Flair Pro 2 just two days ago and I'm absolutely loving it. The quality is top-notch! Even though it's my first "real" espresso machine and made me also buy another grinder and another scale (that fits inside and has a timer), it's great to see the results improve day-by-day, or even, shot-by-shot. I have a couple of questions and would be great if you have some time to answer: 1- After I unpacked, I just wanted to wash the bottom tip of the pressure gauge body (the part that touches the water) and even though I was careful (at least I thought I was), there were a couple of water drops within the gauge body afterward. Then what I did was unscrewing the gauge and leave it to dry overnight without the silicon case. The water and all humid inside were gone the next day and I think it's working properly, but do you think that made things worse with the gauge? Not that I noticed any issues but that made me a bit upset at first. 2- Also about the gauge: On the silicone case it says "fragile". What does that mean exactly? Are there any common mistakes (other than the one I did)? 3- I watched a lot of videos for brewing with Flair Pro 2. I mean, a lot. In one of the videos, the guy places an O-ring on top of the coffee after tamping it, under the shower screen. He says that it's for getting extra pressure. Would you recommend (or not recommend) this? 4- Why didn't you do pre-infusion and decreased the pressure towards the end? I'm asking whether it would result in good crema/espresso. Or is it just how you like it? 5- Not necessarily a question but maybe it makes sense to change the video to public instead of unlisted. I found it by chance (you shared the link in a comment to another one of your videos). Thank you for your great product and online content :)

1. no it will be fine 2. don't drop it or spend time in the "danger zone" 3. we do not recommend this 4. slow ramping to pressure is a type of pre-infusion, we decreased pressure at the end to keep flow constant 5. every day through this monday we have released one new video, tomorrow the PRO will be publicly viewable you belong in the owner's group on Facebook. search "Brew With Flair" on that platform and join to learn more about getting the best from your new espresso maker

Is it recommended to preheat the chamber by just putting it in my electric kettle while boiling the water for the espresso? Why is steam better
@FlairEspresso3 жыл бұрын
for starters, it's much more convenient--no tongs or similar to retrieve from the boiling water. steam will be whatever temperature you're boiling at, so assuming you have it close to the source, it should be within a few degrees of that. lastly, keeping water off the outside of the chamber prevents it from suffering any evaporative cooling
