You should make it a little miniature version of your pond. Put a little plane and car in there and throw a few rocks to look like the concrete. You could make a couple mini trees out of straws like you did with the pex piping.

Definitely live plants and driftwood. Both will stabilize the tank naturally and make it much more self-maintained. The longer the tank runs, the better it will be. As plants grow, trim them and plant trimmings in the sand. More fish=more maintenance. Edit: Try to find one large 5ft driftwood piece to fill majority of the void. And add accessories around that. It’ll help the look a lot. *aquascaping*

Been a hell of a long time since we've had a Pool Jet showing/sighting on the channel! Years! Kind of fun hearing him again! For me, I'm all about natural ecosystems if possible, in order to have it end up balancing itself out, to where you only need to do minimal intervention and maintenance of the tank. Real plants, real structure, etc. Plus it looks fantastic. In the short term, that's really spendy, but long term, it's incredibly cheap/beneficial.

Im 37, have had fish tanks for 25 years or so. Great start. I personally wouldnt get a turtle as your grand kids could be responsible for it as they live like 60 years, some live longer. Since your catching a fish from a pond in December, youll definitely need to slowing add warm tank water into the bucket with the fish as there ill probably be a 40 or 50 degree temp difference. The rest, pool jet pretty much took care of.

Some opinions and tips here a must have for a 125 gallon tank is a siphon that attaches to your sink to self fill and empty for water changes. I would recommend a fluval fx4 - fx6 idk anything abt forza filters do water changes every couple weeks. to help the actual fish after a water change I like to use GJUICE for my bass Shamou bc a water change can be a little stress ful GJUICE can help reduce stress and such it’s actually intended for bass tournaments live wells also to do a water change js empty the water till there’s about 5-6 inches of water in the tank then refill. Finally I prefer for a tank to clump things together like have a cave area w hiding spots and then a forest like Thing w all plants

Change that water 1-2 times a week keep like 1/3rd of the old water then throw some new water in to keep the good bacteria , that ammonia is going to skyrocket when it gets fish in it, fish tanks are all about chemistry so make sure you keep an eye on it, I had peacock bass, Red Devil, Oscar’s giraffe catfish and plecos, I miss having my tank 😢 super excited about this!

Just a tip, your water tested perfect on ammonia, nitrite and nitrate because the tank has not been cycled. Fish waste turns into ammonia which is toxic to fish. A beneficial bacteria will then grow in the tank which converts the ammonia into nitrite which is also toxic to fish. Then a second beneficial bacteria will grow to convert the nitrIte into NitrAte which is safe for fish in reasonable amounts. Its the nitrogen cycle or aquarium cycle. It can be done with or without fish but requires a fair amount of research to accomplish correctly without killing the fish. The aquarium cycle process can take weeks to a month or more depending on how its done and what products are used. Unfortunately its not as simple as just setting it up and bam its good to go. I learned the hard way years ago, just trying to save you the headache. KZbin is full of informative videos about cycling a fish tank. Just check it out before sacrificing fish for the sake of a video please. You always make great content. Fish just aren't the simple pet many believe them to be. I have the same test kit and test my tank every week to keep everything clean and safe. Usually people think oh it would be cool to have a fish tank until they realize how much work it is to take care of it properly and then they sell it and flushem unfortunately.
@kylesplace16 күн бұрын
Start off with a small bioload like a few guppies or goldfish to establish the nitrogen cycle before adding a larger fish
@raymondorozco343619 күн бұрын
You should buy some feeder gold fish as 'test fish" to start the cycle, you dont wanna put some nice fish just to have them die in a couple days.if the gold fish die well you know there is something wrong with the water. Test the water one last time before you put the fish you actually want in, and if you do end up putting a bass in there it will outgrow the tank pretty quick, you can always look up how much gallons of water does a specific type/species of fish needs to live comfortably. And quick tip you can use filter media from another tank that you may have that is currently running to jump start the cycle for this new tank.

make sure you cycle the tank! Cycle may take 30 days or so to finish before putting fish in. If you want to cycle it with fish in, use Seachem Prime, dose it every other day (it only works for 48 hours per dose) it will neutralize ammonia nitrate, nitrite and chlorine to where it will not harm the fish! Let the beneficial bacteria get colonized and once the cycles complete you can stop using Seachem prime. Also! I recommend all SeaChem products over Topfin or API, there's more then you can count but they are all reputable quality well priced products

*Rather than setting all of the items in a row within the tank, try clustering them together... put the plants around the tree branches at one end and the skull and taco with a couple plants at the other.* *I love the idea of a turtle.* Turtles are a lot of fun to watch, etc but be forewarned they create a lot more waste than fish and will put a work out on your filtration system! Will you be able to have the tank that full with a turtle since they'll need to be able to get out and "sun" themselves? You can always get one of those top boxes with the floating stairs like you saw in the one shop. Oh, and a *cheat to cover up those spots on the base that are kind of chewed up,* is to take a black sharpie to them. It may look a bit dark to begin with, but it'll fade and look fine. The quick start is full of beneficial bacteria that will clean up the ammonia, nitrates and nitrites from fish waste. But in order for the good bacteria to really take off and get established it needs to be fed (ammonia). You can “cycle” your aquarium with a few species of hardy fish or do it “fishless”. Any which way the tank needs to get cycled. You can speed up the process by getting some established filter from another hobbyist. I’m sure there is someone in your area that could give you some. That will kick start the cycle in no time & allow you to get fish soon. Hope this helps. Happy New Year brother!

The plants you have in the tank will turn to a brown color over time, I strongly suggest you look into and invest in real live plants, also putting a tad bit more of decor such as tree trunks would be a eye catcher. And don’t think about doing saltwater, it’s a lot more maintenance to keep clean and healthy, especially since you have a big tank it will hurt your pockets. Your best bet is to stay freshwater and grow giant bass. Or maybe take a trip to pool jet and collab on catching a peacock bass and growing that sucker out!!!!

Ideal mechanics for that 125 aquarium IMO would be: Fluval FX6 filter, ehiem 300w heater, uniclife wavemaker, fluval led lights (or any leds depends if you do live plants or not) and also research the nitrogen cycle to better understand the way the aquarium will cycle, but if you get all that youll be on the right track for a successful aquarium. EDIT: Also next aquarium you set up rinse sand/gravel to avoid alot of cloudiness. Good luck with the new tank!

I would say get Rice fish, they were bred to be kept in fish tanks. They can also handle less than ideal water conditions, and they are somewhat small, so you could have a whole school of them in a tank that size, which should look cool. But they are a very resilient fish bred, which is likely a good idea for a storefront tank. And if you end up not linking them, then they are just the right size for a Bass to eat.

White sand is a LOT cheaper if you get playground sand from a hardware store. Flush the hell out of the sand to clear most of the dust out of it (pillow cases are best for this), or your filter will need flushing out a few times before the water clears up. Pet stores will rob you blind. Plan for filtration that is 4X the tank volume. So if a 125g tank then you want 500gph filter. One big cannister is about as good as you'll get for maintenance, without going to a sump. Heaters should be about 3-5 watts per gallon. Live plants are great, but certain species like goldfish will root them out and eat them. If you want live plants then you'll need 5600k led lights to keep them alive. If you're keen on spending money, then go with a saltwater system. Get an apple snail for cleaning, or get some sucker cats to help with algae control. Bristlenose catfish are pretty robust and good for algae too. Clown loaches are really good for natural snail control. Having the pick-up and return pipe for the filter at opposite ends of the tank will help create circulation in the tank. Some experimentation will be neccessary to remove any dead zones.

Need to find natural rock, real plants and driftwood. Make it as much as possible to a natural habitat for the tank. Live plants will help keep the tank clean as they will filter the water as well.

How about a heater or two. I think u need it for there well being 🐸🐠 I say a couple big bluegill and a small bass. Then watch the bass outgrow the bluegill and eat them. Bass r fun to watch eat. They grab a crawdad by snatching it and shake it off its pinchers all at once. Very interesting to watch. ❤. I had one in 100 gallon tank and he got to be 2 pounds. His name was Billy. 😬. I liked to get ghost shrimp out of the river to feed them at first. I signed his food out of the river here in Missouri. You can get different diseases from store-bought fish. 🎣

Not too sure why but i think you should do a warmouth or a perch or something else that nobody usually does. But a bass would be dope too

Here's the thing with Crawfish. Ever songle time I've ever put a craw in a tank, they go and dig up all the plants, so any plants you put in will get torn up by craws and end up floating at the surface.

Don’t forget ammonia to kick start that cycle. Or throw fish food in or feeder gold fish. You need something that will spike the ammonia, cycling a tank is chemistry . A very fun learning experience imo. It’s going to take weeks! Gotta get that cycle started. Quick start alone won’t cut it

Btw zero nitrates is bad You don’t want zero I’m going to highly recommend you look up how to cycle a tank. The tank is not cycled with zero nitrates. You want 20-40ppm nitrates In order to achieve that you have to mimic fish being in the tank with ammonia. Let the ammonia spike high. Then the nitrites will clear the ammonia, leaving spiked nitrites. After that the nitrates will spike clearing out the nitrites. It’s a process so your tank becomes established. It takes weeks to do this. It basically clears out its own waste and keeps water level safe for fish. If you don’t cycle it anything you put in there will die from spiked ammonia levels.
