Flam exercise chop builder is a one of a kind rudiment exercise that will take your hand technique to the next level. Hand rudiments are the foundation for any serious drummer and should be the most important role in your playing. Mastering hand technique and hand rudiments are essential to a well-rounded drummer. In this video I will break down the Single Flammed Mill rudiment and then show you a great exercise on how to build upon it.

Yo Paul!! Really digging working with this. I've been playing around with it, and one observation I've made is.... after I thought I had it down at a slow tempo, I tried it while keeping qtr note time on my left foot, and found that to be somewhat difficult initially (for me anyway). I'm generally pretty good at left foot independence to keep the hihat going during fills, but this excercise is just cool enough to be challenging. I've also played around with skipping the very last flam on the '4 a' to go directly back to the flam on 1. I also tried that with two flams back to back ('4 a' and '1' ) but that gets tough pretty quick as you increase tempo. Anyway...once again, thanks for showing us this... I'm having fun with it!

Rich! My man! Going for it. I love that! My job here is to only give you the tools that you need to get started and some basic ideas but then it's up to you to get creative with it and come up with exercises etc that work for you. I love how you are experimenting with the Hi Hat and getting challenged. That is how you grow! Most drummers never get any better because they never work on anything new or get intimidated when faced with challenges. I look at those as opportunities to grow and take full advantage! Also, when you try to put two flams together at the end as you mentioned, you are playing the rudiment called the "Pataflafla". Great job on challenging yourself and diving into this. It has many advantages!

Hey Bro! "One, Two, You know what to do!"..."Three, Fo (4), Comment down below!"...Thanks for another great video! This is an awesome exercise! It would definitely be confusing to hear this if you didn't provide the explanation...I think the ultimate goal is to be able to randomly place the flam anywhere you want...on the fly...maybe even add a little "cheese" on it (LOL...cheese = double on the flam, remember?...Or, even better yet, "Cheesecake!")...Kudos for getting this up to 160 bpm!...I was thinking it would be cool to move one hand to a tom to help add definition to the flam (left hand to left tom; right hand to right tom)...Sort of like a blushda...That would really be cool to be able to track the flam as it changes position in the figure...Because, as it speeds up, It's easy to lose track of of the flam sometimes...By the way, I was noticing on your kit how close you have your toms to your snare...That would really facilitate adding a tom on the flams...Note to self, put your toms like Paul has them because they will be much easier to play!!...Thanks again for another killer video!...I appreciate you sharing your drumming knowledge!!..."Five, Six...Pick up those sticks!"...."Seven, Eight...Practice til you're great!"...Hey, this is fun! LOL Peace and Later On! JOn
