A lot of 'pinched nerves' are actually strained or torn muscle. I've been exactly where you are now with your neck problems. Much of it stems from many hours of sitting and with occasional bouts of high tension leading to all your head , neck, upper and lower back muscles clenching up badly. If you stop and do a pushup, its easy to overstrain one of the myriad of small muscles in your neck. One of the absolute best things that you can do (better than the witch doctor/chiropractor and anti-inflammatory pills), is to do some simple neck stretches and upper body and back stretches in the morning or just before you start your streaming day. You can even do the neck stretches while taking a morning dump. Even just veeeery slowly rolling your head around, using the weight of your head rather than using opposing muscles or your arms etc. Just holding your head to the side or with your chin on your chest, youd be surprised at how far your muscles will stretch over 30 to 45 seconds with just the weight of your own head. It surprised me when I started doing it. Since i started doing some stretching etc all of the numb patches on my back have disappeared and all the knotted overstrained muscles have relaxed. I dont pull neck muscles/punch nerves anymore, either. It really was a huge positive change for very little effort. Even my tension headaches have disappeared. All with a couple of mins of stretching my neck on the shitter in the morning and a couple of mins leaning against a wall etc to help stretch torso and back...no gym needed either. And I bet im lazier than you too,so if i can do it, im sure you can benefit from it too....coz having a sore neck is shit and its hard work, and for an inherently lazy prick like myself, its easier to do the stretches.

This guy knows what's very likely happening. I've experienced similar pain in the neck, lower back and in one shoulder - always due to strained muscle. And always because of bad posture - neck from prolonged working on my PC or driving with badly set chair, lower back because of repairing something in a very uncomfortable position, shoulder due to badly executed training. You can visit a physiotherapist if you want, he'll pinpoint the problem and likely fix it on the spot, or at least tell you what to do. And he will tell you to make regular breaks from sitting and to do warmups every day, because this indeed helps prevent such situations. And if you tilt your head forward when using your display, maybe, just maybe, it's time to get your eyes checked and get some glasses. ;) If you somehow get your nerve pinched, pain is not the most prominent feeling. There are multiple additional sensations involved.

@@Flambass+1 for the neck stretches. Had fusion surgery at C5-C6 in my neck in July, and the stretches I was doing afterwards, as prescribed by the physiotherapist from the hospital, made a huge difference. I had an MRI last Monday, as I've been having mid- lower back pain and numbness and other issues with my legs, so I was concerned I would need more surgery. I spoke with my Neurosurgeon on Friday who has referred me to a physiotherapist that specialises in Spinal issues, as there was no nerve compression in my lower back, and the pain and issues in my legs are due to the nerve damage in my neck being repaired. Long story short, go to a doctor or physiotherapist. Stretching can do wonders. And be well soon man. Back/ Neck pain is one of the worst things. It's so limiting.

I totally agree. I had very bad neck pains that wouldn't go away. So0mebody showed me two relatively easy excercises and it was like magic. One was about the neck like you explained, the other was about moving the shoulders back by placing your elbows back at the sides. I also got myself a chair where the seat can swivel forward. But that was more about the lower back than the neck.

I had a pinched nerve in my neck, myself, about 2 years ago, that caused pain down my left arm. My acupuncturist recommended the Chiropractor she shared office space with (she uses him, herself). Before he would treat me, he had me go to my Primary Care Physician to get a CT of my Cervical (neck) and Thoracic (mid back) Spine. The CT showed degenerated disks between C5/C6 and between C6/C7, which is where a specific nerve that runs to the left hand comes out of it's connection to the Spine. He's been working my neck, both musculature and bone alignment, to keep things loose and adjust other issues related to my neck (the CT revealed several things I had been unaware of). Additionally, my acupuncturist has been treating my neck to reduce inflammation and to relax the muscles. My Chiro also gave me some exercises for my neck, to strengthen my muscles and adjust the positioning of my neck in relation to the rest of the body. It took about a month for the pain to go away and I haven't had issues with the nerve since...

Flambass, regarding you stiff neck. "Magic bag" look it up, it's essentially a sack of beans you can microwave to hold heat, get one and lay it over the back of your neck and shoulders. They can come in all sorta of size and shape for different parts of the body. 10 out of 10, highly recommend. I get the same problem from watching my outube on my tablet in my lap.

@Flambass I dunno if you will see my comment, however as being a 44 yr old with Tourettes syndrome I can tell you I'm no stranger to pinched nerves in the neck. I would recommend you get an electric blanket to loosen the muscles in your neck, apply either Tiger Balm or Biofreeze to the area, and get a Down Feather pillow. A weighted blanket is good for below the neck issues. Hope that helps. ❤

Not sure if you will see this Flamba. But if there is a way you can raise your display or lower your seat, then try to make that happen. Then also exercising it even with nerve pain can help looses up the nerve. Taking an anti inflammatory and maybe even muscle relaxer for a week while doing the exercises will help. Spoken from experience.

It's rye neck. Essentially whip lash from sleeping incorrectly. An ex Russian tank commander told me an old remedy. Get bottle of vodka, splash vodka on neck at bed time, the rest is for your belly. I didn't know at the time vodka is a muscle relaxant. Next time it happened I cured it in one night 🤣 I kid you not, a week if not more without it. I've never loved Russian logic more

As someone that suffers from chronic nerve pain there isn't a lot that can be done for it. I suggest an anti inflammatory and try laying down on your side with one arm over your head. Try both arms to see if one helps more than the other or any at all. That's pretty much all you can do other than getting x-rays and surgery.

If you have the means, and healthcare to have it looked at, do it sooner, than later! There is nothing worse on this earth, than a nerve injury if it decides to act up! Best wishes! hope it gets better for you!

They are right about the exercises, same for the lower back. The human spinal column is supported my muscle tension. However, ligaments also except exercise. However, in this case he started doing pushups, which strengthened the muscle in the front of his neck, so whle he is sleeping, the rest of the muscles cant keep up. Or much easier, just go swimming or jogging for a few minutes a day...either motion will work.

Sounds like push ups and sitting at the screen for hours are NOT a winning combo. Many suggestions here but also I would advise getting rid of the ‘gamer chair’. They are neither ergonomic (safe for your spine) nor comfortable which probably encourages you to lean forward with your neck in a slightly unnatural upward angle supported by your muscles and putting a small leverage on your spine which is now exacerbated by changing to the tense press up positions. It also doesn’t help that you have it seems broader shoulders than the bolsters on your chair which means it’s basically not chairing… Get an ergonomic office chair with a neck cushion; they are not really more expensive than ‘racing chairs’. But certainly doctor and chiropractor will show you some stretches to help and check your muscles (seriously it can be muscle. Neck muscle pain can make you bed bound).

Time for Flambass to see a Chiropractor. many times. You need to MOVE YOUR NECK, not sit staring straight at a screen for hours on end. Get a VR headset (recommend HP G2) and DL DCS. flying fighters and moving your head like an owl are definitely helpful to 'stiff neck;' syndrome.

Sounds like gaming induced arthritis, or you're just getting old. It's time to see a doctor. Take care of it while you still can. You don't want to be like when you get older. I'm dealing with an arthritic neck, back, spine, hips, etc. So far I can handle the pain, but you want to be proactive while you're young enough to do so. I'm still pretty strong, but if I overdo it I set off nerve pinches, numbness in the hand, etc. I'm probably 25-30 years older than you, and probably most folks my age would tell you to take care of these issues. They do catch up with you over time.

Your neck, during push-ups, position is not good. You MUST keep your neck in line with your back. Instead you are lowering your head and your back is not straight either. By lowering your head, you are not providing support to your spine and you shift whole stress on your C6-C7 cervical vertebrae with horrible angle that multiples this stress. Get proper training with professional at least once a month so someone can correct any errors you will make. Not if you make any, becouse you will. Just like everyone, including me
