OMG how is this ship so powerful??? - World of Warships

This is one of those ships that I called an absolute POS since day 1.
Gouden Leeuw did everything worse than others and its main feature was dumb. Powerful but mostly ineffective, not to mention that most ppl think they should play this ships as an airfield.
I, ofc, wasn't gonna play it like everyone else so I decided to play it like a noram cruiser and see what I can do with it.
The results were astonishing to me.

@@TheEmmetdocbrown yeah well, is just usual game bias although Germans historically never build turrets with more than 2 guns with a higher caliber than 283mm. They thought less guns made the turret vibrate less and the guns more accurate. Pretty ironic.

The Bismarcks main guns where so accurate that it was common for their crew that they hit their target in the first salvo with a 60 to 80 % ratio. That means 5-6 of 8 shots are hitting in the first salvo. Now look how often you hit in WoWs with Bismarcks main guns....

This is a great series. It will be a sad day when Flambass runs out of ships whose stats need “improvement”. When he puts his mind to it, he could Kraken with a one-oared rowboat, main battery consisting of a kid with an AK-47.

I think Trenlass already told you few times, that GL is very strong ship. I play some battles with this ship, and those airstrikes hits like train.

As the Air Strikes are good the guns are even better. Shame that he didn't give the AP more love this battle, he would have been even more shocked if he did :) The lack of Air ASW and the bad armor scheme are the ONLY downsides of the ship.

This ship is great, I love it. Quite tanky (though 60s fires), good HE with good fire chance and planes for those crawling around islands or camping. Those planes make you play in optimal range and your concealment of 10,6 km makes GL absolutely great kiting ship. And, btw, you got almost deleted there by Slava at 12:50, he missed a perfect broadside salvo by few meters. Definitely play this more, GL is fun in a good way and actually works against CVs a bit.

There's also the 30mm deck being a pretty big weakness at longer range as 431mm+ shells will just overmatch you when kiting since despite getting 40mm casemate plating it actually has the same deck armor as Yoshino and Ägir weirdly enough rather than 36mm like Alaska/Puerto Rico or Marseille. I think I might have been sleeping on it too with some many creators calling it rubbish.

I've just ground my way to this ship (My 3rd tech line I've gotten all the way through T10). There is still a lot I need to learn about this line, but I think you maxed out what this ship could do in battle. Thank you for playing her and for sharing this video.

Remember the Golden has 283mm guns the dispersion aint great but when they land they hit hard and I love the air drops, as for the hannovers secondaries when he uses the magic button the range increases too around 14k and the reload speed and accuracy also goes up.

All you needed was a little more spaced armor. (Islands) Well done! Some gimmicks are like an auto-delete key; some require tactical competence. Hannover showed the balancing weakness: this cruiser is no Hindenburg, so open water is not your friend when the Eye of Sauron turns your way. The guns of the Dutch heavy cruisers are pretty good, I find. On the other hand, ASW is pretty rough. Another cruiser where you figure out where the opposing subs are and go somewhere else.

There are few ships in this game that are absolute fun to play (for me) cuz they are very skill oriented. For eg: JB, Elbing, Vermont, Halland, Minotaur and yes Gouden

I think it's just powercreep. Back when it was just released DDs were significantly more popular than they are now, so GL's underwhelming damage against them and its complete lack of utility made it feel quite useless at times, especially for good players who wish to have a higher impact on the outcome of the game. But now thanks to subs, most competent DD players don't want to play the class anymore, and the ones who still play are mostly no good. In such a BB-rich environment there's little wonder that GL shines.

I always liked this ship since release. With the good commander, good skills, and good airstrike hits, you can perma fire everything easily. And if you are very low health, you can still stealth bomb enemies to death...

You FINALLY started using He as your main ammo type, it is AMAZING especially with the special capt + the airstrikes ^^ *Hint: do NOT sleep on the AA it's hilariously busted if built even slightly for ^^

They supposedly buffed the guns in beta. People focus too much on what the airstrike can do to a ship to forget that 15 second base reload speed on 9 283mm guns sounds pretty damn tasty.

ive had amazing luck with he in this thing killing dds, much like shikishima, the dpm is a little low, but the accuracy and low arcs make it insane at hitting almost any dd within a certain distance

GL is a very good bote, it's tanky bow on, he and ap both hurt, and the airstrikes are quick and work, visibility and AA are also good. BUT under 10k from opponents and the lack of Torps counts against you, it's basically a Dutch Petro with airstrikes.

Oh cool! A Dutch ship being really powerful (provided you play a little different than usual)? That's nice. I'm Dutch myself but generally use Japanese ships myself (loving the T8 Atago atm). I'll have to remember the "Golden Lion" if I ever start playing T10. Although I'll likely go with a T10 Japanese cruiser (unless they suck). 😉

Half of them kills were your planes finishing off ships that the other battleships around you had weakened to the point of death. When you had to come up against a battleship by yourself you saw how weak your cruiser really was because you almost died and the battleship was already at half health when you started going 1v1. All the other kills, for the most part was you leaching kills from the battleships who were doing the heavy lifting, most of your hits were HE and setting fires or your OP planes bombing.

nah mate the smash he took was from the Slava too - he would have had a lot more HP if not for that. Also the Hannover has 2x as much HP to start with, so a Hannover on half HP still has more HP than him on full )and he only had 39k)

It has a ice breaker at the front, sadly it gets smashed kitting away. The AP is very strong the HE is weak but the fire chance is insane. It is hard to play in open water and very map reliant. Ie OCEAN map would be a disaster for it. I do agree without the fires and the bombs it's below average. I guess you could play open map until you get smacked then use islands and the ice breaker for the rest of the game.

Sometimes its like that. Sometimes a ship in which I normally perform very well in just doesnt work anymore for some reason. Its like someone flipped a switch. And if I play a new ship while that switch is in the you "are a potato" position I will form a negative opinion of that ship even though its actually a really good one.

How. HOW!! How is your accuracy so.... good? He fired a total of 312 shot and landed 156, good for a 50% hit rate with basically every volley at 12+ km. I'm a cruiser main and I constantly get BB levels of dispersion out of my cruisers. I keep track of my shots fired/landed and it's uncommon for me to get more than a 30-35% hit rate. Most games I struggle to crack 75k damage due to constant piss-poor dispersion. I have a theory though. The in-game Karma system. I think it has some sort of AR like effect on MM, RNG and dispersion. Ever since the end of the Puerto Rico 2.0 dockyard, I've been having a real rough time and have lost 2/3's of my Karma and currently sitting with a Karma in the single digits.

AP is awesome, in a loss game I charged in (yolo) on a Shikashima and shot 13 citadels on him under the turret killing him. The guy thought I was cheating... 🙂🙂

I didn't count how many I had when I started, I would just say a lot. Currently around 40 ships left in green. Most of them BBs because BBs suffer from RNG the most, its a nightmare to try and improve some of them

no plane kill = no skill kill. WG should remove those planes from ships. IT IS NOT AN DAMN CV. more reason to not play the game cause the games getting worse than it started. i am barely playing the game anymore cause of it
