Fantastic game, maybe even a must have! This is going to be at least a nominee for next year's "Spiel des Jahres" (or Kenner spiel), calling it first :D I understand why Janis said that you should get the deluxe game, because it does look nice. However, I disagree that you have to get it, because, in my opinion, it's not worth it. As a family game, you don't want it to be crazy expensive. But deluxe costs more than twice the retail. My first Flamecraft game was with a deluxe game and oh boy, it looks amazing, and I was afraid that I will have this "missing" feeling about my peasant (retail) version at home, but I don't. The retail version is awesome as well, and when playing you don't even notice that components could be fancier. Of course, it's nice to have cute minies, wooden tokens, and coins but, the game looks fancy even without them. Great review, keep it up!

Agreed! If you're ok spending more to have fancier pieces then go for the delux, but it's not necessary to have a great time with this game

In our experiance it's not the case. It's so light yet challenging that after all these plays we still want to go back in. But it always will depend on players preferences and also the alternatives you already have at you disposal

Had to look up the game, Base game 37CAD, not bad! How about the premium items? Coins 18CAD... Dragons 18CAD... resources 18CAD... Ouch. It's nice to have the choice I guess if I can get my hands on perhaps Just the dragons.

@@BoardGameHangover you can't proclaim FC to be the best bg for families. It's too messy for the average family that struggles with Rummikub. I played FC with gamers and I found it an okay game. But for what it was, moving your meeple (that looked like a dragon but wasn't called a dragon) to add cards (that weren't a dragon but were called dragon cards) and gain fiddly tokens to complete cards that require fiddly tokens on a central display, where you're delivered to luck and what other people blocked is not something that I'd call addictive. For a kickstarter, which is usually crap as first edition it is well produced. But for set collection Ra would be more of a success, because it looks simpler. FC isn't particularly cute w.r.t. everdell for example. I won't say ED is a good game, it's a single deck with all the problems that come with that, but it's more pleasant to look at and has more wooden meeples and is richer yet accessible.
