I really don’t understand how this type of music isn’t more widely admired/appreciated. I literally naturally pause in my spot every time I hear it anywhere. It’s hypnotizing.

I agree totally. Think most people wouldn't know quality if it smacked them in their faces. Get these fantastic artists to perform in front of some vacuous celebrities and they'd be queuing up to listen. I like it this way, but feel it very unfair on the artists. Someone with about 10% of their musicianship earn big $ while they earn enough to live on hopefully

@@TheLRider The music biz has been pretty upside-down that way for a very long time. I've played rock, metal, country, classical guitar, and nuevo flamenco live on stage for 38 years. And though I certainly have had some really nice people who appreciated my classical and flamenco playing, it wasn't near the same level of excitement for most people at gigs as when I was just banging-out "Brown-Eyed Girl", "Margeritaville", or some other such mundane classic bar tunes. Most people just wanna dance. I referred to playing lots of those gigs as being "a jukebox". That's just the way it is. But regardless, this video has been one of my favorites for years. Very well played!
@TheLRider Жыл бұрын
@@redlabel69 Thank you Ffloyd I though it was me 😂 I've done my share of head banging etc too and seen some great bands and artists and have a pretty wide taste in music. But I always return to Flamenco as something that is so so special and wish more folks would, appreciate it more. As you say the way of the world and folks have no time to appreciate, far too busy absorbing anything that is fashionable. Just followers.
@redlabel9294 Жыл бұрын
@Brian Thomas My tastes in listening and playing music is QUITE varied as well. I can stand and appreciate nearly all music genres, except rap. That's where my ability to appreciate artists ends. Flamenco is for me, the ulitmate form of expression... because it combines the rigid technical mastery of classical, with the much freer improvisation/interpretation of jazz. Traditional flamenco certainly tends towards purist demands for adherence to strict compas, and that's okay. But it's why I lean towards the freer nuevo flamenco genre, that maestro Paco birthed with his forays into jazz. But guys like Oscar Lopez, Miguel da la Bastide, and others are the players who resonate most with me, in latin stylings.

After I saw this video a few years ago I learned how to play Flamenco guitar. I went to Barcelona. I explored Barcelona on my third day by going to Parque Guell and there I met Eduardo and listened to him play for a couple of hours. He told me if you want to be a Flamenco guitar player, you have to make it your job, 8-10 hours a day of practice. I never did do that but I am still happy that I got to meet the man by chance.

So just one month before I went I looked up “Barcelona street music” and came across this vid. I just loved it. The funny thing is the second or first day I was in Barcelona I saw these guys! I was so shocked my mouth was full open and the guy on right saw me and smiled. Forward to 2017 when I went to Barcelona for the second time I saw these guys again in parc Guell! Hope to see these guys again and again.

This is great! Fantastic musicians! Take me back to my trip to Europe 1987. Visited Spain, Italy and southern France, amazing trip! Spent one day just walking around in the old town of Barcelona watching these musicians all day enjoying music and life..What turned out to be a pleasant day quickly escalated into something worse. After eating a paella my stomach started feeling a bit weird. I tried to pull through and enjoy the tremendous guitar solos inspired by latin music but all of a sudden diarrhea started flowing out of my severed rectum, i couldnt stand up!!! I fell to the ground screaming, bathing in my own fecal matter praying god would relieve me of this agony!! This continued the next several minutes and throughout the wonderfull guitar solo, and was probably the worst case of runs i had ever experienced. I picked myself up and walked away, want home get myself cleaned up and later went out for dinner meeting up with a few old friends!

I saw these guys at Park Güell in Barcelona a couple of days ago. I don't expect much from street music and it's actually good too see them around in big cities like Barcelona but this is not real Flamenco music. Flamenco is generally an improvised kind of music which is often accompanied by singing and dancing (also improvised) . The type that I'm talking about is normally found in state of Andalusia in cities such as Sevilla, Cordoba, Cadiz, Conil de la Frontera etc. This video represents a pop version of flamenco which lacks the harmonic and rhythmic complexity of flamenco music and improvising is limited to guitar soloing. But still I'm just giving some information and not saying that it's bad or anything. (Sorry for bad English)
@mrbellicmma88978 жыл бұрын
Thats flamenco dance and sing, this is flamenco guitar music, it is as real as the one you mention, and its also famous thanks to great artists as Paco de Lucia

+Siavash Darmani EXACTLY!! I love RUMBA (which is what this is) also, but it is not *real* Flamenco to me either. ;^D
@DiegoMartinez-kr6qs8 жыл бұрын
+Siavash Darmani i love it indeed but sorry man, flamenco its no about improvising as it is in jazz for example. Guitar players use to learn by memory well built sentences and then they link that with cuts over the rhytm. There are some guitars players who like doing something between that two styles. This video is a style (what in flamenco are called "palos") called "Rumba". as you said, Its more easy to be liked than others (4/4 and so on) but still inside what is considered "Flamenco". i think what you talk about others styles (palos) as "solea, fandangos, solea por bulerias, tarantas... One last thing please, never ever call pop to a rumba song! cheers
@ronyj70987 жыл бұрын
Enough of this non-sense. I know flamenco is made up of made up of three parts: guitar playing ("guitarra"), song ("cante"), and dance ("baile") but let me make one thing clear to all you uneducated idiots here. This genre comes under "New Age Music" and is called Nuevo Flamenco. For heaven sake, enjoy the awesome melody which makes it a great composition and the sweet sound of the flamenco guitar and stop finding faults. Shame on all the losers who disliked this video.
