Pelts is like a kitten, everybody loves him. Kuz is also very liked. Between those two, they will bring the locker room together. Pelts was a top Scorer with the Wranglers AHL. He started but a shoulder injury, a lengthy recovery and then another injury after a day back, really set him back. He was starting to do well. The real pelts will show next season. Calgary had to trade him, nobody wanted to trade him but they had to. A story for later. Kuz is very very skilled but inconsistent. Maybe because the system wasn’t right for him.

You'll like em both IMO. Frost is decent in the dot, can make some good plays (even if he can be too cute at times) and has a decent shot. Frost's only downside is that he's unplayable defensively. Farabee is the big piece for you guys here IMO. He's a perfect middle six guy. You can plug him in anywhere in your lineup and he will find a way to produce. During the 56 game season, he was our best forward and I hope he can get back to that with you guys.

Weegar was also a 7th rounder. I would argue that both Wolf and Weegar currently have higher trade value than any of the 1st rounders in this deal. Good scouting _is_ huge! Some players are at or near their peak at the draft. Most still have a lot of room to progress. Just as a heads up since this was surprisingly quiet at the time it happened - the "something" that changed for Farabee between this season and last season was him getting the same spinal/back surgery Jack Eichel got traded to Vegas over (Edit: Disc Replacement Surgery). So uh, that's probably playing a big role in his scoring being down. Also Torts legitimately loved Farabee prior to the surgery and gave him a ton of opportunities to play back up to standard - unfortunately his body just doesn't seem to be recovered enough to do so.

There’s a lot of people who play NHL franchise mode and say “Oh my god what a steal for the flames!” Who don’t realize Farabee was surpassed by Brink and Forester, and was a borderline 4th liner on the team. The big negative for the flyers, You trade arguably your one C who could score, and now Noah Cates is your biggest offensive threat on C.

I think this is a clear win for the flames. Frost has played for 3 seasons as either a top end 3C or mid to low tier 2C and Farabee is probably a 2LW. Both have several years of team control. In exchange you lose an underperforming impending UFA, a second round pick, and a player in Pelletier that has shown some promise, but that ultimately was on waivers 3-4 months ago. It's a really good trade to get better now and in the future for Calgary.
@seakid123
@seakid123 7 күн бұрын
Not sure how two soft guys that have proven they can’t shoot the puck and are at best 3rd liners are supposed to help a team that already cant score. Frost has played a lot of 1c and he’s just not good. Both have been healthy scratches multiple times this year. You can’t have playoff aspirations and have both of these guys playing on your second line. Flames should have just saved kept Kuzmenko and let him walk next year instead of taking on 3 years of 5 mil for Farabee and instead used that money to help get a proven player instead of somebody who has been abysmal for a full 82 games now dating back to last season.
@ashec.6824
@ashec.6824 7 күн бұрын
Coming from a Flyers fan who wanted to give these guys ever chance to turn things around, you've gotta consider the recent context around Farabee and Frost more. I don't imagine their last few seasons have been hot topics in the Calgary hockey media landscape, so the loss of nuance is understandable (I'm sure I'm missing context on Kuzy and Pelletier too) but to give you an idea of how things are viewed here in Philly: Frost has been played as 2/3C, yes, but bear in mind that the Flyers have ZERO reliable center depth to speak of. On a team that more or less out at 2C talent, Frost was still playing in the back half of the lineup for the majority of his career. He was considered the third best of a bunch of 3C's, and hasn't shown marked improvement in anything in particular in several seasons now. There's a reason his name has been in trade rumors for the better part of the 2020's. Farabee had a TON of potential and put together some solid seasons for us - but something that Steve fails to mention is that was also before he quietly had *Jack Eichel spinal/back surgery* over this past off season. He just hasn't been the same player since then, and it's what finally forced management's hand to move him despite being seen as a key piece every since he was called up at 19. Post-back surgery he's just been visibly slower, skates like he's got weights on his back, less effective on the forecheck, and his scoring has dried up considerably. I do hope he turns it around with more recovery time, but the player the Flyers have had this year, the player the Flames are getting is VERY different from the player he was pre-back surgery.

As a Flyers fan, we just unloaded 2 underachieving players (from the previous regime), and in return we get 6+ million in salary cap space this summer. Plus a 2nd round pick. Because the Cap is going up big time next year, we should have 25 million in cap space. Now we will have to use some of it on RFA’s, but Darren Dreger reported last night that the Flyers are now in position to go after a top line max contract free agent this summer. We also have 3 first round picks and 4 second round picks in this draft. Now it’s up to Briere to execute the picks and cap room over the next 2-3 years. As for Frost and Farabee, i think they will fit well in Calgary if they aren’t asked to be top line players. They are solid players who play great sometimes, and then disappear for 10 games. They aren’t consistent 1st round picks like we had in the past (Gagne, Richards, Carter, Giroux, Konecny). They are in that next tier of player. They can be good in the right situation, but don’t expect them to be All-Stars. As a rebuilding team here in Philly, they were not the right fit for this team.

Time for an update to the old Phil Kessel trade tree. That thing is still going! Kessel for the pick that became Hamilton, who went to Carolina for Lindholm/Hanifin, who each got traded separately... the former of which went to Vancouver for Kuzmenko + prospects/picks and Kuzmenko now to Philly for a couple of young guys who could stretch that tree out even further

I actually really like this deal for Philly. I have not liked that Farabee contract since day one. I think them unloading his contract is the biggest win of this entire deal. He is still young and can very much turn everything around though. As for Calgary, I don't love it. I personally believe that Calgary needs star and super star power. They already have enough middle of the road players. So I feel as if this is redundant. I think that 2nd round pick and the cap flexibility beyond this year was more valuable than Frost and Farabee. But I would love for them to both excel and prove me wrong.
@Christopher.Colberg

As a flames fan, the flames will never fully bottom out and get a top 5 pick. The ways they can hope of getting elite talent is through free agency when guys are in the late 20s which is more of a short term fix, or somehow end up on the receiving end of a deal like eichel to vegas or tkachuck to florida. Their only hope of getting top talent through the draft is somehow stealing a player in the mid to late first round who develops into an elite player or vegas blowing up and getting the flames a bottom pick in 2026 (1-6 range) which 99.9 percent wont happen. They could try to trade up at the draft but rarely do teams trade away a top 5 pick unless their socks get absolutley blown off.

As a lifelong flyers fan I love the trade. I think it has a lot of potential to really work out for us, BUT, if it doesn’t work out performance wise we are in the same position we we were in before the trade but cleared cap space and have another draft pick in the draft. With that being said I think it will work. And there’s great potential for the flyers to get better now. Michkov and kuzmenko on the same line could be dangerous. I think our next move is to get a new coach.

Farabee found himself "in the doghouse" after being on the first line for much of the season. Both Farabee and Frost got SOOO many opportunities to prove they could take the reigns and be point producers for this team and every time they couldn't produce. I hope the change of scenery works out for both guys, they seem like cool dudes with a good bit of skill but it's not like Torts just hated them and that was all. Hoping excited we got Pelletier in the deal, seems like a prototypical undersized type Flyer, could add something to this dying season.

Both Frost and Farabee are in the age range they're looking for, and they can help thos team for years down the line as well as right now. Losing Pelletier hurts, especially since he was really starting to come into his own lately, but you have to give to get and because he started building value it made now the time to trade him. The Flyers basically got a second rounder and a half season translator in exchange for two roster players. Kuz will walk after the season and Pelt cleared waivers earlier this season. Great return Briere, what a joke. The crap Flyers found a way to get even worse. Flames get two solid but unspectacular players. I guarantee they will produce more in the Flames system than they did under Torts. This will not make the Flyers better in the future. That little bit of cap space won’t matter when the cap goes up and every team has space.

Solid analysis, however as a flyers fan here, you need to break frost and farabee’s stats down to half seasons. Because frost ever since being a flyer has been Invisible in the first half of the season than turns into a high end 3rd liner or ok 2nd liner second half, so even if he gets going for Calgary this season it’s not a safe bet to resign him. And farabee, well his numbers are even worse if you look at his last 82 games, because he put up the majority of his points last year in the first half, so he’s been bad for even longer.

Puljujarvi not working out wasn't cause of a language barrier, it was cause he was uncoachable and unwilling to change his game to match his skill set. Look at Farabees number since Christmas of 2023. He’s been awful since then. Frost is god awful. They will help you make the playoffs at best, then you can pick 18th instead of the lottery. Briere got a 2nd as an asset and freed up 8 million bucks this summer. Wouldn’t be surprised if Briere trades for Cozens at the draft. In short: Frost and Farabee stink

You're 90%, everything except Pelletier was never going to work out in Calgary. I feel like he's nowhere near his ceiling, and he's going to find it wherever he is, but it was probably a bit higher in Calgary where his size and physicality wasn't as much an issue. You said it yourself Tortorella likes 'em big and feisty.
@gabrielrockman
@gabrielrockman 7 күн бұрын
When a coach puts players in his doghouse far too easily, it's so hard for the GM to get fair value for them. I think Calgary won this trade. If Kuzmenko gets put on Michkov's line, he's the biggest winner. But Farabee and Frost should also win just by getting away from Tortorella. I don't think Pelletier is better off or worse off. The second round pick is a slight loser in this trade, but if Tortorella is out of Philly by the time the second round pick is ready for the NHL, it's not too bad for him. Still probably better to be on Calgary though.

I’ve watched everything Pelletier has done in the NHL and he seems like an awesome guy who’s teammates absolutely love him but I have very strong doubts he gets another nhl contract or has any future in this league

Its not easy to make a good trade You just have to want to do it In the case of the leafs they are not creative, nor are they prepared to have any balls

Knowing how Kuzmenko played under Tocchet, he's screwed. I miss him on Vancouver

It's a little funny that Philly gets the oldest player in the trade AND the youngest player. Seems good for both teams though.

Actually... I like the PS4 ;) Both these players (Farabee & Frost) are outplaying their draft positions.

THIS is a rebuilding trade, flyers shed cap and get 2 picks, get Kuzy for 6 months and a 23 yr old who might pan out

I don't understand the move from the Flyers. Michkov is having problems with Tortorella. Farabee was in Tort's doghouse. Morgan Frost fell out of favour. So let's trade this young 20 goal scorer, former top 15 pick and young middle 6 centre for an older player having a worse year than either of them (and has an expiring contract) and a soon to be 24 year old who can't crack the NHL full time. Maybe the simpler move was fire Tortorella.....

Ok the one thing that. I think is going over everyone's head. That woke the Flyers to shake things up. Last night's 3-0 loss to the NY Islanders!

Flames have over $17,000,000 in cap space currently with the cap projected to go up a ton. The Flames wont have cap issues at all.
