I've never seen a flange binding demonstrated or 'in-the-making', until this video ... learned allot. Thank-you so much. I will be giving this one a try ... maybe on some place-mats first ... haha ... Got to go a little at a time. I am fairly new to quilting. Purchased quite a bit of fabric from yall several months ago, then my machine went down before it came in (the same week) ... to much going on at the time ... but I finally purchased a new machine and will be getting back into sewing/quilting again very soon. Watching all of the Jordan Videos and learning daily. Keep it up ... doing a great job! Thank-you for sharing your time and talent freely. God bless you and yours.

I've started the finger pressing and you are so right about it making the later pressing so much easier and accurate. Also, your binding videos, including this one with the flange, are all excellent! I am definitely one for machine sewn binding and you have it down to an art!! Thanks so much!! Wish you were closer to Maryland!!

Thank you for a great tutorial. As a seamstress. first and a beginning quilter, I find when I get my binding sewn on , either self binding or using the backing fabric to come around.....I press my binding in place and then I add a strip of wonder under and press well holding that binding right where I want it. So much easier to go to the machine and not have to work so hard holding and making my arms tired. Really takes no time at all to 'wonder' it in place as you press. At this point I only have to SEW not pull and hold. THANK you again!!!

My solution to stitching from the front is to turn the binding to the front then glue in place with binding clips holding it in place. Leave overnight then stitch in the ditch the next day. Just turns out way better when not having to hold it in place while stitching. Elmers school glue sticks work just fine.

Another great video Donna! I enjoy flange binding also but I've always made a little bigger. You've inspired me to try smaller next time. I'm making your starry log cabin right now and enjoying it. Thinking about making the stars float so I don't have to worry about the points. I love your floating star points. You and your family have made a huge difference in my quilting. From cutting, finger pressing, pressing, floating stars, and precision I've learned so much and I've improved tremendously. If only I had a quilting machine I could get to the next project faster. :-) Actually considering quilting by check. Do y'all quilt for others?
@jordanfabrics83807 жыл бұрын
I think that the flanged binding would be easier if it had been cut a bit wider and I am going to try that out next. We only do a limited amount of quilting services and right now it is only for our local customers who come into our retail store here in Grants Pass, Oregon.

This is just a wonderful tutorial. I can’t wait to try the technique. I will make one change- when topstitching on the front and approaching the corner, I always fold the bottom portion of binding up first, then form my mitered corner. This puts the fold angles in the opposite directions front and back, and makes it easier to sew that corner because the front fold is going in the same direction as you are sewing, so not fiddly at all to get to the corner. (Hard to explain lol)
@sueoferrell76732 жыл бұрын
I'm trying this now, but finding pressing the 1/4" seam on itself to get that 1/8" flange is very tricky. I'm anticipating problems trying to do those mitered corners with all that bulk of the seam inside the flange. You make it look so easy, I guess I'm not ready for this, but too late, I have to get this quilt finished.
@deborahemielita5949 Жыл бұрын
Nice flange binding demonstration. Prefer to do a 45 diagonal stitch at the edge because that helps for the mitered corners. Also just saw a video stitching the binding seam with fusible thread (bobbin only) before turning then it’s turned and the iron fuses so it won’t shift upon top or ditch stitching. Superior threads also has videos on using fusible threads in other ways, which might also be great pre-iron for keeping the flange correctly lined up. Happy sewing!

This is a cool technique! As for the sewing of the miters (specifically, the red strips in the beginning), you said the material needs to be at a right angle but that's not actually correct! I know sounds crazy! The fabric can be wonky if you want. The important thing is that the sewing starts and stops at the intersections at top and bottom. Said another way the "V"s the materials make top and bottom. Try it. I didn't believe it either. If your not matching designs or pinstripes then a perfect 90 is not necessary!
