When I was little I would cry every time this song came up, it came up like 2 times a day on the radio so eventually I just covered my ears or leave the room. Now I think it's funny and I sing along XD

This song started with an interview in Youp's student time when he was asked by the interviewer about his career as comedian. What kind of things can we expect from you (Youp) as comedian? He answered, can be about anything, even a song about a rabbit, which later triggered Youp to write a song about... And here you have it, Flappie. This song was already known by the public in this video as it is a christmas evergreen in the Netherlands. The audience knew what was coming so they laughed already. A lot of people who hears this song thinks it is quite boring, but they never really listened to the lyrics. When i tell them they should listen carefully or when i explain them, they love it.

Listen to this every year and still enjoy it. Poor Flappie. My dad is from the same generation and he told me they used to have rabbits they'd eat at Christmas too. But his parents were wise enough not to give the rabbits names. The kids knew the rabbits were gonna be food. My dad remembers his siblings fighting over the rabbit brains. Not my dad though. lol

I once heard from my grandparents that it was't unusual that ppl bred their own rabbits(or other animals) back in the 50's-60's of your own consumption and this is just some satire based on that i suppose. And yes, they still play this song every chrismas as if to remind kids to guard their pets well.

My dad bought 2 rabbits every year in august. Told us, feed them, don't name them, the're for christmas. So we always knew, but we kids didn't want to eat them, so the frist plate was "chicken". 🤣 And me, as the youngest, always got a rabbit feet, to 'cuddle' with.
