Just got in from the workshops after a couple of frustrating hours trying to flare 11/2 stainless by hand.......mediocre results...... having watched this I will be necking my dinner and heading straight out to the workshops again !! no rest till bed time ! Thankyou

Thanks for posting this video! I made a collet similar to yours yesterday and used a standard live center angled in the tool post to match the 37 deg of the collet. Little bit of oil and the flare came out great. Half way up the JIC taper. I was using 3/4" OD x .065 wall carbon steel tube. Thanks again!

Great video! I have an application where I need to make a load of flared adaptors to go from 50mm to 38mm in 1.5mm stainless. I will definitely be using this technique.

Would TIG welding a tube sleeve on work? Or is the flange in the sleeve not enough

Would you -or any one - publish where to buy the rotating 37 degree die? Thank you KenLoweTopGo2. Must say, it is simple the way you have presented.

If you have a lathe you make more things than you buy, here I just made the rotating die to suit the application.

Your example appears to be aluminum material. Have you attempted this with J525 steel hydraulic tubing (cold drawn welded)? What RPM did you use? Sure looks to be aluminum material in the video.

It was aluminum as deemed required in the application use but I have used even chrom moly with good results.
