Adrian, you make the BEST videos! We chuckled all the way through it. We love your originality and it's always fun to see your interpretation of my pile of wheels. Aloha. Clayton

Adrian, this is outstanding! I love your interpretation. It sounds exactly like the Toucan prototype that I built. Once again you have done an outstanding job.

Good looking clock Adrian,as Usual Your craftsmanship and videos are top notch,do You have a schematic for the circuitry on the electromagnectic coil, I noticed another comment about doing a conversion and would like to do the same thing??help would be apreciated, and by the way Your Excaliber video comment does have some truth sometimes for us older wood workers,,lol,that was Good... Thanks Adrian

@crabs73 : You are correct. Clayton Boyer's design is called "Toucan" but i changed the frame and face design so I couldn't call it that.

Great stuff! How many work hours did it take you to build it?

Hello Adrian, Nice work, as usual ! Can you tell more what did you use for the electronics to generate the electromagnetic pulse. I might modify my marble strike to implement this system. Marc

I am a retired old man and am looking for a hobby and became very interested when I saw your clock you designed and was wondering if you could maybe let me have a copy of the plans so I might try to build one it would be so cool

please correct me if I am wrong, but this escape mechanism looks like those toucan birds heads, dont You think. it was the first i have noticed, this nice wooden toucan bill as a escape mechanism :-) all in all, it is another wonderful wooden peace of art. thanks ;-)

@marcfeyzeau : the electromagnetic coil is two windings of 60mtr each, 30 gauge magnet wire connected to a transister and all run from 9v DC. The pendulum has a rare-earth magnet in its base. Because the mechanism is run from the escape wheel down, very little force is required to run the clock and there is no weight on any wheels, thus the simple frame. If you email me directly I can share more.

Pretty Flashy clock mate, I did think of Flash Gorden the movie at first when I saw the title cause I know you like to have a bit o fun with your clocks. so I wasn't sure what to expect. Like it Take care mate.
@robertduncan628811 жыл бұрын
what is the polarity of the magnet in the pendulum in relations with the electromagnet in the base? It would appear that if the poles were opposite it would eventually stop the clock. (Like poles repel each other- opposite attract)

Interesting escapement... the power is supplied to the escape wheel directly (which is NOT really an escape wheel) and not the beginning of the going train (which is NOT a going train either). You can do this because of the electromagnet I presume... a spring or weight-driven solution would only last a few minutes applied to the escape wheel! I'm starting to be less of a purist and accept the idea of the electrical power... having to wind your clocks every day can get a bit old... plus, it's only for the power, the timekeeping device is still mechanical. Cheers!

Adrian. I am working on my Toucan and have had quite a few conversations with Clayton. I am having trouble with the coil. I understand you helped with those directions. Isses: I may have wound the outer coil opposite the inner inadvertently. I tried reversing the connections at the end, but still nothing. For a brief time, I was getting a little wobble out of my coil, indicating it may be working or at least trying to work, but since I tried to redo the connections: nothing. I used a zinc crew for the core. I could not find anything iron. Is this an issue? I am this close to starting over and building a new coil. But I would love to salvage this one if I could. Any suggestions?
