Around the 20:00 mark when you're wondering why Saviour isn't producing defilers, it's because he doesn't have gas. Flash has been running around picking off bases denying Savior gas. Late game is always about gas heavy units. Ultralisks cost 200 min, 200 gas, Defilers cost 50 min, 150 gas. If you look at the resources tab around 20:35 Savior has around 1700 min, and 160 gas banked, Flash has 5578 min, and 2660 gas banked. Flash's composition is essentially SK Terran with a bit of Biomech (siege tanks) thrown in, his main army composition is Medics, Marines and Science vessels. Saviour is trying to have Ultralisks as his gas sink unit, with Zerglings being his mineral sink, but he doesn't have enough gas to have enough Ultralisks to force a fight, I think usually you need about a dozen ultralisks (which would been 2400 min, and 2400 gas) to force the Terran Army to take a fight. M&M are low econ and really easy to replace. Science Vessels are expensive (100 min, 225 gas) but they're highly mobile and regen energy so they're really cost effective if they survive. As long as Flash can poke around and kite, and keep map control, it's very hard for Savior to force a big fight to eliminate the bulk of Flash's army. What Savior really needs are some Queens to stop Terran mobility and force a fight where he can group Ultralisks to run the Terran army over. Zerg always needs to be at least a base up on the Terran to match the gas heavy units. Flash was constantly able to deny Savior's fifth forcing Savior to go for drop plays and starving Savior of gas. At around 22:00 mins when flash is going after the 3o'clock expansion, it's why he's killing the extractor first cause he knows he has to deny as much gas as possible. Around the 24:10 mark Savior doesn't have the gas economy to keep with Flash's army composition. Flash always needs to keep around 6-10 Science vessels for map control, along with about 8-12 siege tanks, which is about 44 supply, he'll have around 60 SCVS, the rest of his supply will be the low econ M&M. At 26:30 flash supply blocks Savior this is basically the game right there. The last few minutes of the game is just Savior trying to find a play anywhere. Generally of all the great Terrans it was only Flash that was able to consistently choke the map away from the Zerg in a macro game like this, why he was the essentially the best Terran player ever.

Hey Falcon, Nice channel man. The reason for the mineral patches is so that Terran cannot lift command centers and land there as they are also too close to a mineral patch to land. It makes it more fair because all of the races have to use a drop ship to get to the island bases.

Some rust from the Ma Bonjwa. As always, the precision: dark swarm, defensive timings, precise execution of build. Everything is stellar, but that's it :D Back then it was his passivity that killed his opponents, he trades well, attacks with just enough units to dish out the needed damage then all of a sudden he's waaaaaaaaaaay ahead of his opponent. In this game, he just sits there doing nothing. Throwing ultras left and right, not to mention his ultras are suuuper late probably because he teched to hive way too early when he didn't need much dark swarm yet. Maybe he's scared of tanks? He needed the swarm for tanks. But that's understandable. He's playing for fun only nowadays, he has nothing to push him to get the old saviOr back. Regardless, the precision of his dark swarm still gives me the creeps. His defense in 27:30 shows a glimpse of the defensive prowess of the maestro of the old. He freaking destroyed that huge drop with minimal units wtf man.

I think in the case of those weird mineral patches, it might just be a map designer quirk thing. They may confuse or otherwise mess with the worker AI which may make the income from that base a little slower. It also would make it more difficult for a Zerg to place multiple Hatcheries there, as the minerals would block the Hatchery placement. You could potentially use them for mineral walking, I guess, but that wouldn't be overtly more useful than just mineral walking to say your main or natural. It may also just be purely for cosmetic purposes, the mineral layout looks more natural that way and it looks kinda nice.

When you mentioned sisyphus to describe the never-ending pointless labor, I just had to stop working and write this comment. You are officially my favorite commenter of SC games. I am going to look up your podcasts, too. You're not vulgar, you stay focused on casting the games, you're not all about inside jokes, you prolific in what you produce. You're great. Minor request: I think you should analyze maps more (i.e., the players are playing on map A, this map is conducive to rushes or economy or fliers, etc.). I realize that's less of a thing in BW, though.
@johnsnow53056 жыл бұрын
I have to say, I've never seen a top end player that didn't spam. I was shocked at the start to, so I kept track of it the whole game. At one point Savior was around 110 APM, but it hovered around 130-150 for a while. Then as the game went on and there was more to do, it steadily rose to around 200. Then again rose and stayed around 230-250 for a while. Savior actually exceeds Flash a few times after the 10 minute mark (260-300 range). They both settled around 250 in the late game, which seems to happen a lot in pro games.
