Not liking school early on, and not having an extensive formal education, has not taken anything away from you, Engelbert. I perceive you as a very intelligent and well~rounded individual. I was a high school English teacher, and it was always my belief that a person could educate oneself by reading extensively and interfacing with people. And, learning is lifelong. It never stops!

So sorry you were treated that way in school, I was also. Maybe they knew we were kindhearted and loved people? I learned more out of school myself. I felt like a prisoner and unliked. I love outdoors and animals and people, been to Africa as a missionary but they helped me as well, developed me further looking within, searching my heart, they had nothing but lots of love.

So glad your beautiful family was there for you and so influential in your education. You were blessed to have such an amazingly talented mom and a dad that taught you about integrity and manners. If you want it for yourself, one can learn from watching others, books and become who you want. You are a very classy, charismatic, talented gentleman. Shame on those who treat people bad for whatever reason. Tough times make us better people. My dear mother always said, "It doesn't cost a thing to be kind to others!"

Dear Sir Englebert: I went through the same bs when I went to junior high. I came home beat up all the time and my grades went down the toilet. I went to answer my draft notice and was rejected due to my poor eyesight. My father yanked me out of that school and enrolled me into Rhodes private school in midtown Manhattan. Had much trouble with mathematics and took early morning math classes to bring my grades up. I had a great math instructor and graduated with a high school diploma and went to NYC technical College to major in industrial arts education. Ended up as an electronic technician and serviced electronic entertainment equipment such as color tv,stereo audio systems, radios. When electronic equipment became throw away electronics,I became a cargo van expedite driver in 1998 and still work as one today. I have been to Southern California many times delivering light freight. I always wanted to meet you. You are my favorite male singer

I try to keep my head up and I tell myself “ I’m glad I’m not like them” Thank you for sharing this❤️ I received that treatment from my own family = mother, father, sister, and 3 brothers...and other people, only a few teachers.... Great Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, and other special people told me of my worth and showed me love... Thank you for your beautiful music which I’ve loved since forever ! I would Love to meet you someday !💛 You never know🙏🏻🌈 God bless you. I continue to lift things up to Jesus🙏🏻 He’s taking care of me. I’m so sorry you had to endure these things💔 You’ve changed it around and remained true to you ! I’ve been telling my friends about how you climbed down your mountain ! What a hoot ! Enge, love to hear your stories and memories on Fridays, but this made me very sad. Classmates can be very cruel, but teachers? No child should have to endure that kind of treatment. So happy you didn't pay for school busses, because I think it hurt your former teacher rather than the students. Good for you that in spite of all that bad treatment, you turned out to be so successful, and smart. Hope you are pleased with the man you became. I know all your fans are happy. It is unfortunate that you were bullied and abused at school by your teacher who slapped you. No wonder you left school at 15, and I commend you for using your intellect and inquiring mind to help you in life. Thank goodness you had loving and great teachers in your sisters and parents. Your ability to learn and master foreign languages is phenomenal and when I hear you sing in Spanish, it feels as if the room's temperature just got a lot warmer. The sensitive boy with the protruding teeth who you call an ugly duckling turned into a beautiful and gorgeous swan. Engelbert that wonderful smile of yours brightens and lights up the world.

I left school at 15 working very hard left Glasgow then went to the south of France I became a managing director took a master’s degree at 50 years old. School in those days were very violent so impossible to learn anything. And as my father was Indian my mother Scottish I wasn’t like every other school child.
