Shaquille O'neal and Kobe Bryant have one of the most complex ex-teammate relationships known to basketball aficionados. The two are arguably the best one-two punch combos to ever play the game and if it wasn't for the inner turmoil that tore them apart Shaq and Kobe could be sitting seven to eight championship rings. One thing the two did share while both playing for the purple and gold was their lucrative sneaker deals that have led to millions in endorsement money for the both of them.
Three years ago, Shaq sat down with SneakerWatch while promoting the re-release of the Shaq x Reebok series. He mentioned his personal love for sneakers, the futuristic influence he accomplished with his Reebok kicks, and the struggles the sneaker community has in regards to over-priced kicks and the violence it brings to our neighborhoods. The 4x champion also revealed that his Shaq x Champion sneaker line produced $200 million in profits that year [2013], for those people that can't afford the inflated prices of other athletic signature sneakers, he encouraged us to indulge in his Champion kicks.
But the interview peaked when he was asked if he would ever rock a pair of Kobe's kicks. The Big Deisel simply smirked and replied quickly, "No. Never. I got my own brand." It looks like even though the smoke has cleared and the two are back on good terms there's still a sense of competitiveness even off the basketball court between the two. It's hard to swallow thinking of what could have been for the two, but in the end, the two will go down in history as the best at their respective positions. The funny thing is, can you imagine Shaq trying to stick his size 22 foot in a low-top Kobe 'Mambacurial'? Or a high-top Kobe 9? Sounds like a scary sight.
