yeah, apart from the different design, old Transformers fans have complained that Optimus Prime in 'Bayyverse' is too cruel and brutal, but I actually like that, when Optimus beats the Decepticon mercilessly, it looks cool and badass 🔥🔥

When I saw the first Transformers live action film another Dad was sitting beside me with his young son, who was maybe five. When 🚛Optimus🤖 made his first on-screen appearance, the father jumped straight out of his seat - in a packed theater - and started shouting and pointing, looking back and forth between the screen and his son - saying over and over again, "Do you know who that is? That's Optimus Prime. That's my BOY! That's Optimus!" His son was confused and excited, but only because his father was so wound up. I will never forget that 30-something Dad transforming into a kid that day, the rest of the audience laughing with him. There are a lot of things they got wrong, but Optimus was spot on. I only wish you had some Peter Cullen footage to add here, because this is a wonderful explanation of the care that went into honoring this cherished character, and explaining why they made the compromises they did.

But I wouldn't be in any way surprised to learn they were inspired by Transformers when designing the armor. And by the way Bay did vfx.

As a kid in the 80's I was really into Transformers. When I saw bits of Optimus before the movie was released I was a tiny bit disappointed that they had gone with a conventional (long nose) rig instead of a cabover. But I also realized cabovers have pretty much disappeared for long haul OTR trucking... So the movie makers worked with what suited the times. And when I heard Peter Cullen's voice in the movie... It was Optimus Prime. Cabover or not.

The CGI and cinematography of both films don't do the truck justice. The transformation should have been more simple like the g1 cartoon and less "realistic" like the original movies. I like the TFP approach by having him still be a Peterbilt 379 but his front in red and his rear still being blue.

The best detail? ILM tried to build an Optimus Prime model with the flat front truck, but could not fit more than like 20-25 feet of giant robot in that shape. By using the long nose form, they cold make Optimus Prime tower over the other Autobots while still fitting his entire robot form into the truck without needing to shrink or stretch any of his mass.
