My flat coated retriever passed away 5 months ago. I rescued her when she was about 7 years old. She (Kayia) was the best friend I ever had in my life and I miss her so much and am so lonely since she left. Best buddy ever !!

Our wonderful Flattie just died on 11-29-2023. We adopted her at about 5yo and was told she was a Newfoundland and Lab mix. It was about a year after getting her we figured out she was a Flattie. She made it to almost 18yo. She was diagnosed with cancer early this year and after 2 surgeries, 2 rounds of electrochemotherapy and tons of medication she lost the battle. I miss my sweet, silly and smart dog every day. Worth every penny, every tear and every moment spent with with our Lucy.

I have a 11yr old FCR that still acts like a puppy. Energetic, loyal, great with family. He’s 71lbs and next to a Newfoundland similar facial structure, same black coat especially on legs and paws, but smaller. His mom was a short hair yellow Labrador which most people seem amazed. He’s all gun dog retriever but some Newfoundland and Labrador for sure.

My flat-coat cane corso cross is almost two years old, busy boy! He runs my 4 acre property all day long. He digs voles and plays pick all the apples. He was a challenge in the beginning, after a great deal of training for he and I, mostly me, he is a joy to live with, although not for the faint of heart!

Loved this! I rescued my pup off the street 10 years ago and couldn't never figure out his breed until now! He definitely had the poo eating problem but not his own he would get the chicken poops in my backyard, he had to be watched everytime he went out, but 10 years old and he still acts like a puppy, and he's very smart (:

We just found out we have an FCR, Chole was rescued from a rescue center over 10 years ago. We knew she was some type of retriever, so we told people she was a swap poodle. Because her coat was so flat. Her FCR personality fits her to the T. Now, when people ask me what type of dog. My comeback is "She is the Peter Pan of dogs".
@missstormchaser12 жыл бұрын
We ended up with a FCR by accident! We didn't plan for a dog and certainly wouldn't have picked this breed! We are now 5 years into owning her and we are totally obsessed with them! She's as daft as a brush but soooooo smart, she recently started searching and rescue training and she's bossing it 😊

I always thought my rescued labrador looked different. Watching this video I'm sure he was a flat coated retriever. Everything mentioned in this video, distinctively long head, slow to grow up, high energy, and caner. We moved into an apartment with a dog park, later in a house next to a big park. We walked him 10 miles a day to get him to settle down. He would go up to any human begging for some ear scratching. He passed of cancer in 2015. I miss him dearly.

Our 14-year-old black flat-coated retriever (Lenny) still likes to act like a puppy, hah, and he used to jump all over people in his younger years. It is sad to see him have a harder time getting around in his old age, but he would definitely jump more if he still could. He's very kind and sociable for an 80lb dog, and he's never been aggressive with people and loves to play with strangers and other dogs. And I love the look of his feathered fur, even though it gets everywhere. He wasn't trained super well but he is still very smart and affectionate. I'm really going to miss him when we have to say goodbye soon. I would absolutely recommend getting a flat-coated retriever if you have the time and space for one, they should definitely be a more popular breed.

I have a flat coat mix. The people I adopted her from said her mom was a golden retriever and they didn’t know the father. I’m thinking they were not entirely honest, but by then I was already set on taking the 4month old off of their hands. My dog’s ears sit up higher then goldens and flats. The vet said she may have Aussie shepherd in her based on the ears and tail. My dog has hair like a lab, but slightly longer with a lil wave in it. Like the chocolate looking flat at the start of the video. My crazy lil pup is on my channel. She is a hand full. I love her lil mischievous butt tho. 😂✌️. Dogs rule

You did not mention the thing they have for retrieving. These dogs are relentless retrievers meaning they'll have to bring you somethings all the time. They adore fetching and are constantly waiting for to give them something they can hold in their mouth.
@JH-lo9ut Жыл бұрын
My friend had a flat and they used to exercize her by shooting tennis balls out in the lake with a baseball bat. She would swim out and fetch ball after ball until she finally got tired and would lie down in the grass, carefully stripping the felt off of the tennis ball. This game perfectly mimics what they're bred for: wait for the bang, run, swim, retrieve and finally de-feather the bird.

Relieved to see my poo eating dog is normal, not just crazy. My history of dogs has mostly been tefined rough collies so getting my flattie Hannah was like a slap in the Face 😂. Still she keeps me laughing especially when instead of running to my car to greet me she jumped on the bonnet and stood on the car roof. Maybe she is a bit mad but funny as all hell.

My dog did also but he was large 80lb and he was probably at the large end in height though I don't know exactly where the puppies came from we found 4 in a hole about a week before a flood that was all over the state of texas but major damage to us we had 8ft at our trailer and floded us out completely and lost everything my uncle used his boat and got all the animals i had brought them inside when my grandparents picked me and my sister up 2 puppies looked like yellow labs one was given to a friend and the 2 blacks we had a male and the female had white toes and chest but both had fluffy coats my friend had a male chow and my uncle had a black lab the mother we thing looked like a border collie and had a pink nose with black spots but i never caught her so i don't even know if it's female but our dog had black spots on his tongue and the roof was also black i think also he had a big head with a wider muzzle which fits his head size but exept for the head very closely resembles a flat coat in everything especially personality i remember he loved people and especially kids and cats i will be getting one but not for a few years i need a service dog since i have seizures and want one for a pet possibly train for hunting or at least for agility or competition obedience since i i like to train them my other 2 dogs have been very well trained but i have to work on with distractions but shadow my mix would sit, come, down, and stay and when i told him to stay i would walk about 15 or 20ft away and tell him to come then stay about midway have him go through the commands again then come the rest of the way and sit in front of me sometimes he didn't obey so i put a leash on him and then run through them but i had a schnauzer who i did the same to also but i better since i was able to get his attention easier and learned from him and the other dog's i trained though only mine did i work with extensively the border collie mix from when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade and he was 4 when i started training him and i only had a book about border collies to learn from and i didn't have any books at the library at school nor did I have a library card but by the time I had shadow i had learned a lot and did have a library card so had more knowledge i took a dog trainer couse online that i took after he was trained and about 5 years later i got my schnauzer my sister's dogs i tried to work with but she didn't be consistent so they didn't learn well and my mom's shih tzu i tried but didn't know how to train a small dog at the time nor did i live with her shadow died when i was pregnant with my son who is now 16 and will be 17 in 2 weeks the schnauzer was gotten when my son was 7 he was lost in September 2015 i got a new dog from the shelter on December 31 2015 when i was there looking for him i found cocoa my current dog who will be 8 this year but is scared of everything so he's not very well trained in the house he sits and will sometimes stay but if i go even a few steps away he will come to me and only recently have i been able to have him farther away and i can go out of sit only for ashort period of time and he sits sometimes he will lie down but only if we are alone for a long time recently he does if someone else is there but usually wont go do down all the way unless i make him with treats sometimes even then he won't go down all the way if he even does it at all but he does give paw when asked outside he's totally different since there's noise everywhere and he's constantly paying attention to his surroundings but i can have him off leash because he doesn't want to be to far away if i turn around and go a different way he runs to me or at least by me so even if his collar does slip off or something similar like if my son takes his leash of outside my apartment complex and he wants to run away my son can't catch him but i have no problem mostly i just have to go a different direction, keep going towards home or stop walking and just wait for him him to come to me if he here's loud noise like fireworks or thunder he goes straight home thats what i taught him and since he did that anyway i taught him to go on command which i use a lot and can now have him outside my complex and will go home as long as i can be seen which is now about 10 or 15 feet and always looks back to make sure im not to far away i won't do it usually except for right outside my complex and use a retractable leash inside it and if I leave i use a regular 6ft leash and when i use the command I keep the leash on so i can easily get control back if he gets sidetracked the problem with training him was first he was petrified of everything even a parked car turned off or people i had to hold him to allow people to pet him and i spoke to him and pet him at the same time otherwise he would still be scared of people now he loves people he knows and ignores or will go 3 feet away if he has to walk by someone depending what leash im using or if they are sometimes he likes strangers but usually they have an animal or work with them but he loves other animals especially cats we had one and they play fought and he's also stubborn so that i have to work around his fear and also get through the stubbornness which isn't easy especially since once he hears something out of the ordinary he basically shuts down so nothing will work even treats
