As a counterpoint to the flat-earthers I would like to interject a personal experience. Years ago while sailing on a 30-foot sailboat bound for Tahiti, a thousand mile from land in any direction, on a star-filled glorious night I had this intense visceral "awareness" that I was an insignificant little speck, floating on another insignificant little speck (the boat) which in turn was floating upon another seemingly insignificant "speck" (Earth itself). I, myself, was a tiny little dot upon another tiny little dot staring in to the immensity of the Cosmos itself. I pity the flat-Earthers who will never have that type of moment.

" insignificant little speck" Your 'awareness' - possibly 'connection' - is precisely what terrifies some flat earthers, especially those who adopt a literal interpretation of the Bible. I have found that they value the closed system - earth protected by a dome, 'the firmament'- as without this God would somehow be remote. I have often countered this with the observation that the Creator of an immense universe would be more in line with the Biblical Almighty than the medieval concept of a limited cosmos. So far as I can tell, this is ineffectual.

@@chrisantoniou4366 My point, badly made, was that the Biblical writings actually resolve the 'problem' of the Almighty Creator of an immense universe and inferred remoteness - a cursory reading of the Psalms demonstrates this. The accounts there of the author staring out into the heavens almost perfectly mirror the original comment about awareness of insignificance, but coupled with a personal relationship with God. But Biblical literalists fail to recognise this powerful 'truth' in their own holy writings (as well as logic and reason), preferring the cosiness of the medieval closed cosmos. It is not only psychological - it is bad theology.

Our education is flawed. I’ve discovered evidence that the theory of evolution is a blatant lie and that the “big bang”, “space”, spinning “globe” theory is a blatant lie. Firstly here is “flat” earth evidence I’ve discovered. The curve is supposed to be 66 feet over 10miles but is apparent nowhere and we can see beyond that distance. Corsica can be seen from 137 miles away. The suez canal is 100 miles long and has no locks. The Sahara Desert, the Tibetan Plateau and the West Siberian Plains are flat. The equator could not be the warmest part of the earth on a “tilted globe”. All stars revolve around Polaris, the North/Pole Star. If we were on a ball circling the sun we should see new stars every day for a year as a lighthouse illuminates the sky surrounding it. The cycle should repeat every year. At any one time the majority of space should be invisible due to the sun’s light. Instead we see the same stars from somewhere on earth throughout the year. We can see Mercury and Venus at night which are between the earth and the sun. This is impossible with heliocentricity. In reality we have a celestial dome covering the earth through which the sun circulates. Tides are not uniform and do not affect lakes. Tides and the seasons are central to feeding and reproduction. Pilots and engineers do not account for the curve. Pilot training manuals are based on a flat earth. Gyroscopes show the earth is still. The cycle of the moon bears no correlation to that of the sun. It’s logical that surface water cannot curve as we are told is the case over vast oceans. We know water reacts physically to movement yet we see no evidence of movement in the water that surrounds us. Ships that disappear over the horizon come back into view with telescopes. There is no 24hour sunlight in the south pole. Antarctica is 30degrees colder than the arctic. It is the coldest place on earth with a low of -90 degrees. 70% of the earth’s fresh water is in Antarctica. The Abyssal plains at the floors of the oceans are flat and have no sediment. In 1946 US Admiral Byrd went with 4700 troops in OPERATION HIGH JUMP. Planes smashed into invisible “barriers” and it got closed off to the public. In 1875 hms Challenger “circumnavigated” the Antarctic. It took 69,000miles. The circumference of God’s earth is 52,800miles. They would have gone 5 times round the fake Antarctica. Many sailors died because they were assuming the globe model and in fact the Longitude’s are longer in the southern hemisphere so thinking they had travelled round land they ended up hitting it! The Arctic circle is 66.6 degrees north. The Antarctic Circle is 66.6 degrees south. It has circular coastline, there’s a Deception Island, Elephant Island and Enderby Land. Weddell Sea, Ellsworth mountains. It was explored in 1911 and Amundsen reached the “centre” in 1911. How did they even know where the centre was. It has places called Titan Dome, Law Dome, Dome Charlie and Dome Argus. The US Thule base in Greenland is used to detect inter ballistic missiles. I thought that’s what satellites did! There is plenty of evidence on youtube showing the moon landings were fake. The same background is used repeatedly. The shadows are inconsistent. How do you take photos with an antiquated camera and a space suite on. Why was there no dust on the “spaceship”. How does a rocket work in a vacuum. How can you effect direction in a vacuum. Scientists say the Van Allen Belt above the earth is impenetrable. See Edward Hendrie(2016), Rob Skiba, Bradon Edge and Casper Stith(2017) for more flat earth evidence. Our bodies and that of animals and creatures are designed to detect movement yet we are told we cannot detect the earth moving at 66,600mph. These are lies. UPDATE: I forgot to add this bit. implicating the Hornéd One: As to who would and could create the lie? One obvious answer is satan to conceal God! We are therefore talking about the spirit realm and we do not know how profoundly the spirit realm can impact our world. The indignation and ferocity with which many attack this concept shows they’re afraid of this evidence becoming mainstream. My research shows this is central to the battle between God and satan which is a spiritual battle. It sounds ludicrous and personally it has spiritual significance but it should concern everyone because it exposes the reality that our establishment can and does control the evidence which is promulgated. Science and education promulgate only the evidence that fits an agenda. Flat earth is by no means the only realm of suppression of evidence.

NASA Moon Missions Published on January 17th, 2022 | by Madhudvisa dasa | Full size image NASA Admits they Did Not go to the Moon 46:37 48:48 NASA is the first to admit that they are many unresolved issues for future manned flights to the Moon. Our scientific understanding of may things has progressed since the 60’s when the Apollo Lunar Landings were supposed to have taken place. And one area where we now have significant data which we did not have in the 60’s is in regard to the levels of radiation that exists in space and the radiation belts that surround earth. Now it is scientific fact, beyond any question of a doubt, that if someone is traveling in space he is going to be exposed to very high levels of radiation compared with the situation here on earth. This has been measured for example in the International Space Station which is orbiting the earth only about two hundred miles away. But even at this relatively low altitude the levels of radiation on the ISS are considerably elevated above those here on earth. Of course the position of the ISS is far below the beginning of the Van Allen Belts, which are very highly charged belts of radiation surrounding the entire earth. Today we have many satelites in the Van Allen Belts and accurate measurements of the extent and levels of radiation a space craft would have to pass through to leave earth orbit are known scientific facts. Although the Van Allen Belts contain extremely high levels of radiation, even in space the level of radiation is very high, compared with here on earth, due to cosmic rays, so even if one could pass through the Van Allen Belts still simply traveling in space without proper shielding from the radiation would be very detrimental to human health. The biggest challenge, therefor, that NASA and other organizations trying to commence manned space flight is how to shield the astronauts from the lethal radiation, not only during their passing through the Van Allen Belts, which may be only for a period of 1-2 hours, but also they need to be protected from the cosmic radiation and random radiation spikes as a result of sunspots, etc. Because now the levels of radiation are known in the Van Allen Belts and also we are reasonably sure about the levels of the cosmic radiation one may experience traveling through space the amount of shielding that would be required to protect astronauts from this radiation can be calculated. And it turns out that the best way would be to surround the spaceship with a layer of water as water is an effective shield for radiation. But the problem is the calculations reveal that around two meters of water (more than 6 feet) would be required to surround the spaceship in every direction. But such a large amount of water would be extremely heavy and currently no one can imagine any propulsion system that would be capable of lifting such a huge quantity of water. Nowadays the levels of radiation in the Van Allen Belts, as I said already, are known, and the level of shielding required for humans to pass through the Van Allen Belts is also known. These are now scientific facts. And NASA also accepts that if they are going to send men out of earth orbit then they are going to have to find some solution to the radiation problem. There has been a long string of experiments trying to send animals through the Van Allen Belts and return them to earth. But so far, except for a tortoise and maybe some other reptiles, all the animals have died. Certainly all the mammals have died due to exposure to the radiation. So NASA are now “between a rock and a hard place.” On one hand they are trying to defend the lie that in the 60’s they had six glorious Apollo missions where they send men safely to the moon and returned them home. Of course to do this the Apollo astronauts would have had to pass through the Van Allen Radiation belts twice. But according to our current scientific understanding of the Van Allen Belts this is not possible. Every mammal who has passed through the Van Allen Belts has died. And on the other hand NASA is openly stating that to make manned space flight possible in the future they have to find some way to solve the radiation problem. The proof is there in NASA’s own Apollo data. The astronauts spacesuits had radiation meters sewn into them. And the readings on these radiation meters show that for a complete Apollo Moon landing mission the astronauts were only exposed to something like .8 rem of radiation. Even if they had just gone to the International Space Station, which is way below the Van Allen belts, they would have experienced more radiation than this. So NASA’s own Apollo data proves scientifically without any question of doubt that the astronauts never left earth orbit. They could not have left earth orbit as they had no radiation shielding and would have been killed simply passing through the Van Allen Belts, even if somehow they got through, they would have been killed by the cosmic radiation. And these days every thoughtful scientist knows this to be a fact. That NASA’s Apollo missions never went to the moon. And NASA themselves are announcing that “We Never Went to the Moon” when they tell us that “we will not be able to embark on future manned space flight until we can solve the radiation problem.” So the radiation problem was not solved in the 60’s and therefore space flight was not possible in the 60’s. NASA is admitting this openly. Please listen to the very interesting Truth News Australia radio show interview with Damon Crowe who is a scientist discussing very scientifically the challenge of overcoming the problem of radiation on manned space flights. He proves conclusively that without adequate radiation shielding manned spaceflight is not possible, and he establishes that the Apollo missions did not provide any significant radiation shielding thus proving conclusively that they never left earth orbit.

No amount of internet commenting will do it. The act of 1871 doesn't hold weight in US courts, because laws have changed since then, precedent is also important in law and many precedents have rendered the act of 1871 a deep part of US law, but the claims made about that law are often simply false... Here's what seems to be the difference in Michael's and Kelly's approach (and why I prefer Kelly's): Kelly: I want to figure out why people believe things that to outsiders - to the majority - seem crazy and fringe. Michael: I want to figure out why people believe clearly wrong stuff, and while doing it, I'll make fun of them a bit. I am a "globe earther" to be clear, but I suspect this is why Kelly has the success in getting flat-earthers and others to open up to her in a way I doubt Michael ever could. Michael is a very selective skeptic, skeptical about things he thinks (and maybe he's often right) are beyond the pale, but I've never seen him skeptical about anything, say, Steven Pinker ever wrote (despite many academics being skeptical about just that). I think Kelly seeks to understand where Michael seeks to reinforce his own biases to himself, understanding only when it affirms that he is correct.

Yes, Kelly keeps her laughter to herself because she needs to interact with these people for her projects. People don’t usually like to be laughed at for their ridiculous beliefs and scientific ignorance, so they would likely not engage with her if she were to do so. The Earth is a rotating sphere and the proof I will give you now you can refute with more evidence (not more questions, or more deflection, or ridicule)... or you can admit defeat and accept that the Earth is indeed a rotating sphere. Explain how we have TWO celestial poles on Earth. In the Northern Hemisphere the stars appear to rotate around the North Celestial Pole at Polaris from East to West in an ANTIclockwise direction, while in the Southern Hemisphere different stars appear to rotate around Sigma Octantis at the South Celestial Pole from East to West but in a CLOCKwise direction. These observations can be made by anyone at any time when the stars are out, and have never varied. The ONLY explanation is that the Earth is both a sphere and rotating. Even if you don't accept that you can tell anything about the shape of the Earth by looking at the sky, just explain the observations!

That surprised me because he seemed to be a promoter of science.
@kevincurrie-knight32672 жыл бұрын
I get what you are saying, but I am not sure I see it as surprising. I think when it comes down to it, the best we can ever be is selective skeptics. Not sure if you saw the documentary (Behind the Curve) that Michael alluded to, but there is a really sophisticated sequence where the filmmakers are showing the gathering of flat-earthers at their convention, selling t-shirts, chumming it up with each other, etc. And we are probably supposed to think how this belief system is really sort of an identity for them and the goal of the conference is not at all to question but to reinforce the belief that binds all of them. But interspersed with that sequence is a shot of a science-enthusiast group meeting up at a local restaurant to hear speeches from scientists about how great science is. And then it hits you. The two groups are doing the exact same thing in different directions. (The science group even had pro-science merch.) We all believe stuff that we put firmly out of the skeptical reach.

@@kevincurrie-knight3267 these are not two sides of the same coin. Science is the most reliable method we have developed to arrive at truth and the understanding of reality. Just because people gather together in social events, exchange ideas and reinforce existing ones, doesn't mean they are wrong about their conclusions, especially when they can be scientifically demonstrated, which is why these like-minded people gather together in the first place. Science is collaborative by its very nature. And those participating in science and those who recognize its efficacy and usefulness in understanding the universe and in solving real world problems naturally want to promote the method and its findings. Knowledge of reality is the single most effective way for humanity to come together, to work together, and to proactively address the problems we face. Flat earth, q Anon, religion, and any other such nonsense are a bunch of misfits joining together to address imagined problems with imaginary solutions, real problems with imaginary solutions, and even more threateningly addressing both real and imagined problems with real life consequences. All one has to do to debunk a flat earth is to design a scientific test to confirm or falsify a flat earth, or even to falsify the globe. This is something that anyone who understands science can replicate, regardless if they meet in conventions and congratulate themselves and others on their achievements. Science isn't full of beliefs, it's full of demonstrated results with predictive power that can be replicated upon desire, where results and conclusions are held tentatively, and the strength of one's convictions is equivalent to the evidence in its favor. This is not an exercise that conspiracy theorist or the believer in gods and magic participate. Quite the opposite.

I don't believe in a round or a flat earth, but I know my feet in my truck's floorboard. That's good enough for right now. When people believe in something, they identify with it on a personal level. @@cloudy7292 you say "the globe", as if there has been one consistent globe throughout time. Do some deep research and you'll find that philolaus had a different mechanism for the "the globe" as did Pythagoras, as did aristarchus. You'll find that the supposed erathostenes didn't even have a clue for the distances down south. And of course, all of them weren't taken seriously whatsoever. And they all had heavily erroneous distances compared to each other and compared to your current globe. No globe in history has been the same. Zero. Inconsistent as can be. Now we get past the early baseless notions of the early globes and we get to the names that you probably know. Copernicus globe didn't work like the previous ones and his distances were also massively flawed. Keppler took actual observations from the leading astronomer of his time, a geocentrist with a fixed earth and gave you, without proof, yet another globe, because none of the previous ones were anywhere close to being proven real, possible or accurate. Both of those last names were high up in catholicism. And it was only after those two that some kind of globe approximating your current belief started being implemented by the catholics. Primary examples are the America's, where no globe models were used and Asia, where they had a flat earth and dome model going back into time as far as we can tell. Until the jesuits came along and destroyed it. So, unlike the inconsistent many globes in time, the vedas show earth sitting on water inside of an egg like structure. As did the summerians and hebrews. As did the father of scinece the Greek thales. As did the Nordics as did the Chinese as did countless other people throughout time and from all parts of the earth. I am with Bret Weinstein. 'Conspiracy theory' is a misnomer. They really should be called 'conspiracy hypothesis'. Almost no conspiracy theories are absent of ALL truth/facts. Accept the 'theory' as is and test whether it comports with demonstrable reality. Labeling someone a 'conspiracy theorist' is no better than yelling that they have kooties.

The problem is, flerfs rarely conduct any experiments to test their "hypothesis" (and when they do, they always double down and purposely misrepresent or misunderstand the results thereby proving themselves right in spite of the experimental results that have proven them wrong). You know, I once lived in a town where every swan I saw was white and that's a FACT. Therefore, I knew all swans were white. Then I visited Western Australia where I saw a black swan. So my "facts" didn't support my hypothesis in the end. You get my point?

Your guest says the flat-earth woman in the bar was nice. But when your guest told her that she had in fact flown non-stop from America to Australia, the response was " No No No No No" which is anything but nice. If I say you are either lying about your personal experience or deluded about it, I am not being nice.

The inspired scripture says that the earth cannot be moved. Gen 1: 1 Yahweh created corruptible TIME, Space and Matter. Yahweh created an empty sphere universe. Then Yahweh created the earth in the centre of the empty universe. The earth this very day is still in the centre of the sphere universe. It cannot be moved. Around our sphere earth Yahweh created our sola system. Around our sola system Yahweh created our galaxy. The earth, sola system and galaxy are still where they were created nearly 6,000 years ago. . The earth cannot be moved. The earth is spinning in the same place it was created, The sola system is spinning in the same place it was created, The galaxy is spinning in the same place it was created. Yahweh tells us He created all the galaxies and Stretched them out. 17 times in the inspired scriptures Yahweh says He stretched out the heavenS. ALL the galaxies are spinning. NO galaxy is moving, Just spinning. The earth and all the galaxies are still in the same place they were created spinning. The earth is a sphere, Tilted 23 degree's, spinning once every 24 hours, traveling around the sun. So says The Creator Yahweh. Yahweh is going to put the earth back into its creation orbit of 360 days in a year in September. Yahweh will show the world that the flat earth teaching is a LIE. ALL who believe in a flat earth deny Yahweh's Power. ALL who believe a flat earth reject Yahweh's perfect observable, testable , repeatable laws of Science. So it is written

Thanks for this. A lot of rational folks often wonder where this flat earth nonsense comes from and the answer is - the bible and religion. Thanks for sharing and helping to debunk flat earth (and religion).
