About the curling iron with the clamp. This is an old style curling iron and many do not have experience with it. Your problem is that you are trying to use it like a cold curler and it doesn't work that way. To get the spiral curl you want, do this... Use 1/2 weft, and place iron *at the top of the weft.*, putting the clamp down at the beginning. Twist the iron while making a scissoring motion to "uptake" the weft all the way to the end. Just little motions, it doesn't take much. When the end of the weft is inside the iron, wait for a second or two and open the clamp slightly and take it out of the curl, pulling the iron straight up from inside the curl, not out away from the curl, while not disturbing the curl formation. It does take practice! The heat from the iron will continue to "set" the curl, so you can even use a hair clip to keep the curl tight. The key is the cooling process; something you don't do with a flat iron. If you curl from the ends, you get a very loose curl like you did. This is for volume like at the top of old style hairstyles. Sorry to be so wordy, I was a hairdresser way back. This kind of curling iron is new to very many people!

You should try curling wefts of yarn that have not been straightened yet! Brush them out, but do not straighten them before curling and this might help you get the curl that you want. Something about using a straightening iron before using a curling iron usually makes it more difficult to curl.

Maybe you probably use hair spray to curling it's help the curl get long lasting and easy to curl. I also use hair spray to keep mohair wig straight during flat iron on.

To get those nice bouncy curls with the curling iron, hold the barrel upwards, not sideways like you did on your first try, that will only curl the ends upward. Holding the barrel up gets the shape youre looking for.

try removing the iron in the direction of the curls, as pulling straight out will just straighten the hair again.

I'm not certain but for the golden curler I have an idea on how to help the yarn hold a curl, if curling yarn is anything like curling my synthetic wig. When it comes to taking the curl off the iron try holding the iron down wards and let the weft slip off and leave it on a coil on the table to set x
