I like the term "Butrus "when describing the root flair of a bald cypress because that's what they look like and that's what they do for the tree.

Thanks for sharing these videos, especially the rationale and illustration for flat vs angled cut on this video. Have you had much success with air layering bald cypresses at the trunks? I have a ~ 3yo bald cypress I would like to cut and begin developing a medium bonsai. It’s trunk base is currently ~thumb thick. I’d like to get two trees out of the procedure if possible.

Great job, very good teaching series. Question 1: Why cut the wound convex instead of concave? Question 2: Why spend 45 min. carving with a dremel when you could use more aggressive wood carving tools like the King Author series and a die grinder? Thanks!

Your content is so good Evan.. love what your doing.. question though? I’ve just purchased 3 9 year old nursery stock coastal cypress, pin straight. I want to twist one to make a cascade, cut the top out of one and just let the other thicker one grow huge before I cut it out like this one in the video. Can you offer any advice for me? Thanks bud

We stopped making our own sealant because the base material is just too hard to mix with other ingredients. We do sell three sealants on our web store, one is a clay-like sealer and the other two are more like toothpaste.
