@MatthewBerginGarage6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. I don't think the fan will be much of a problem as virtually everything in this car is meant to be rebuilt. I have found a used blade on E-Bay for $25. I just have to get the generator and fan assembly home to see what I'm up against and fix them up..

Just wonder if you could provide a contact for the place you purchased the wires and connections from?

Thanks for the question. The ignition wires were just a Taylor spiral spark plug wire set from my local speed shop. The electrical wires and connectors were from The Brillman Company. Here is a link; brillman.com/ They will have what you need. The Tape for the wiring is not electrical tape it has no adhesive. Here is a link to the correct tape; www.ecklers.com/wiring-harness-tape-non-adhesive-90-76544-1.html.

Hello Matthew . how is progress on this treasure going ?

Well the work on the Customline is at a halt. I ordered most of the parts from the US to my US address depot in Niagara Falls NY but due to the covid19 craziness I can't cross the border and pick them up. My parts are literally only 3/4 of a mile from the Canadian border and I haven't been able to go get them for two years. I saved a ton of money on shipping though. 🤦♂️😉 Hopefully in the future, sanity may return to the world, and I will be able to get my parts. 😰

Please run ZDDP in a flathead engines. Government had the ZDDP removed from the oil . All flat NO Roller rocker or roller lift engines need a friction protection additive. A fresh flathead rebuild without ZDDP. Lucas break In oil may not make 2 thousand miles. The cam won't last till the water gets hot.

Thanks for the comment. I would be more that happy to help you out if I can. These engines are fairly simple but way different than a newer engine. Does your engine turn over?
@mikekennedy50544 жыл бұрын
@@MatthewBerginGarage hey thanks for getting back to me so quickly. My motor does turn over. I've rewired the entire truck. If I hold the starter and pour gas down the carb I can get a couple chugs from the motor then it freezes. The belts and pulls come to a hard stop, even if I hold the starter button down
@MatthewBerginGarage4 жыл бұрын
How does the engine crank over by hand? Does it continue to crank for a complete 360 degrees or does it still come up on a hard stop. Have you checked for spark?
@mikekennedy50544 жыл бұрын
@@MatthewBerginGarage the motor will spin 360 on battery or by hand. The freezing part only happens after one of the cylinders fires. I'll try and send a video to you

Sounds like the engine is too far advanced, you will need to check a couple of things. I will send you some things to check when I get back home in a couple of hours.

Saw this on CWM. I'm surprised you'd take the car all the way back to Ontario and not have a garage in which to work on it. Driving an hour to your tools sucks. My approach to the vehicle would be quite different after knowing that it runs. But then it's your money and time. Removing the front clip and interior would make it easier if you can't do a frame off resto. Just my 2 cents. A fun car either way. I hope you enjoy it.
@MatthewBerginGarage6 жыл бұрын
Hi Philip thanks for the comment. I had the car inside but the person who owned that garage died and we had to move. It is only outside now while we help the owner of the new place finish the his new 100 X 50 garage. The car will be stored inside a nice dry barn 50 feet from where it is sitting and there is also a full garage (the one we are helping the owner with) and hoist on the property. I will be gutting the interior and removing the front clip. There is a four inch roll of mouse poo in the centre of the headliner stretching from front to back, yuck and more yuck. Much easier to fix the engine and suspension with the fenders out of the way. The hood hinges require repair as well. I just can't move the car until the ground freezes up. It is sitting on the only dry spot in the area. Once we are in the barn I will bring the tool boxes there.
@philipdecatanzaro18226 жыл бұрын
@@MatthewBerginGarage Yeah leaning over your work is one quick way to leave your back messed up. With the front clip off you will be able to whistle up a complete harness for the lights and horns and everything back to the dashboard. There really isn't much that goes to the rear of the car except lights and tank sensor. Once inside you can get the car up 2 feet or so and get to just about everything. Sorry to learn of the project delay. Its seems you have a handle on what you want. I bet you're chomping at the bit to get going on it. Keep us updated.
@MatthewBerginGarage6 жыл бұрын
@@philipdecatanzaro1822 I have chomped almost all of the way through the bit. :-) I just keep buying parts. I have the rest of the wire and bullet end connectors I need to finish the engine bay and dash electrics. I just ordered tail light lenses and the welting for the front end pieces. I will upload a movie later this week about the fan and generator repair and you will see just how muddy the rest of the yard is. We were trying to bring the insulation up to the new garage but our Jeep TJ kept getting stuck in the mud. That is why the car was outside because the insulation was in the spot in the barn that the car is supposed be in.

What gauge wire did you use for the generator re wiring? 10?
@MatthewBerginGarage5 жыл бұрын
I used #10 gauge for the output and #14 for the field and ground. I would have used #8 but since the generator is only 35 amp it seemed to be overkill. It is funny being an electrician and having worked on various vehicles almost all of them 12 volt. It always seems that I am using gigantic wiring in this 6 volt car because in most of the cars I have worked on lately the majority of the wiring is #18 gauge. I love the fact that there are only 8 wires on the engine, including the ground and starter wires, and only three of them are needed for the engine to start and run. Thanks for the comment.🙋♂️😊

Matthew Bergin thanks. I’m electrician too in southern Ontario. Yeah the 6vdc calls for larger wire due to increased current. I’m about to re wire my 1950 ford f1 flatty next month. Adding turn signals and re wiring the Gen to voltage reg and to the starter contractor etc. I’ll pick up some of the wiring at Napa I figure
@MatthewBerginGarage5 жыл бұрын
I'm in southern Ontario as well. 👍 Have fun with the wiring. It is not very complicated but if you keep it 6 volt positive ground it can sometimes "three way switch ya" when your not looking.😖 I purchased the wire I'm using in the US from the Brillman Company brillman.com/ They supply electrical parts for antique cars, trucks and tractors. They can supply period correct looking wiring cut to any length and the correct connectors. I also found the correct wiring harness tape. It looks perfect. www.ecklers.com/wiring-harness-tape-non-adhesive-90-253456-1.html If you live close to the US border get a US postal address, You will save a lot of money because most places will ship in the US for free and I rarely get charged duty at the border. I am keeping my car 6 volt pos ground and I just think "current" with any of it's wiring. I was thinking of some nice 60 watt H4 bulbs in the headlights before adding up the current and thinking about the generator's limits 😞
