This is such a beautiful piece and one of my absolute favorites, the lyrics remind me of my ex whom I cared for even after she showed me time and time again that I was making a mistake and only hurting myself. The line "i don't know which way to go, empty pockets empty friendships scrape me like an empty bowl" is quite cathartic, personally I take this a referring to the friendships that are based around weed and/or money, there isn't much meaning behind those and if you aren't part of that group it's very easy to drift apart and feel somewhat of an outcast or hollow. My other take is that the people who supported me during the hell my ex put me through are not there waiting across the metaphorical finish line, none of them are apart of my life anymore even after reaching out and separating myself from her, like they couldn't see me as being my own person, so were they really my friends at all? The final lines "i hate you more than you know, you've broken my bones i love you so" is the final nail in the coffin to that memory. There's no ill will towards anyone or lingering feelings of hate, even though she was toxic I still care about her, but that doesn't mean I would ever want to get in contact with her again. Oof here I go picking apart my emotions again, Flatsound is one of the few artists that can evoke these kinds of feelings in me, here's hoping one day I can create something that can inspire others just as Flatsound has inspired me!
