DFSimpson not really. I always go with the grain across the grain but not too much against the grain, and especially not against the grain on the scalp. I like the foil shaver finish super baby smooth even closer than a straight razor!

Love the work Shon but I gotta disagree on a fade and a taper being the same. This is sort of a square is a rectangle but a rectangle isn’t a square kind of thing. This is important especially when having your initial consultation. If you refer to an entire fade as a taper it could be misunderstood when someone simply wants the sideburns and or back of the neck tapered. I tell my clients a taper is an isolated fade going form their hair length to bald where as a fade is the hair all around the head going from long to short. So a Cesar with a taper is basically three isolated fades. The two sideburns and the back of the neck. A fade would be one fade connected all the way around the head. It also can be said that you can have a fade that also has a taper....like say a number two on the sides brought about mid way up the head blended into the top and then tapered off at either the back and sides or just the back. I just think separating the two helps to really clarify what a client wants. For example if someone sat in my chair and said side part with a quarter inch off the top, two on the sides tapered I would assume a #2 back and sides with a bald taper. But if you call a fade a taper that same clients request could also means a #2 back and sides blocked sideburns and back. Just my two cents

Richard I understand what your saying but back in the day it wasn’t called a “fade” it was called a taper. Shon here is old school with a twist of modern. Nice flat top sir!

I wished there had been a good look at the finished work, one in chair and one at eye level when he got out of chair would have been great. But great work. I love a good razor/lather-shaved back and sides on my hnt followed up by electric foil razor like you did. Nowadays, the barber only wants to do foil (which I understand why--so easier and faster).

Have a close look; top and sides are excellent but looking from the back the taper/fade, whatever you like to call it, is obviously very uneven. I know the customer had some convex areas on his head which made some areas darker but a good Barber can compensate for these natural 'imperfections' so despite all the fancy talk the client left the premises with a crooked haircut.
