Tip on the spices- next time you & a friend or two are at your market, pick up a brand you like (yes, even if it's a little more expensive) that comes in a glass container (you're paying for that little jar). Then, when you do go to Costco, split the cost of that big container, refill the little glass jars from it and toss it into the recycling. Why glass? Easier to clean, they clean more thoroughly and will last longer. Also with glass, it's easier to remove the previous label, if you so desire.
@hwk94686 жыл бұрын
They are, but it's a ine-time purchase, an investment in the jar. It will far outlast plastic & you can switch up what's in it, not so much with plastic, which retains the smell. My friends & I save on bulk spices by sharing the purchase & refilling those jars. Works for us.

He is right about the Costco Applewood Smoked Bacon. It is the best. Not healthy, though. It's bacon. So if you're eating bacon you shouldn't worry about the brine (which is mostly just salt) in the chicken. And besides you can't make a chicken at home for $4.99. Price a whole chicken; you'll be paying at least $6 (and likely more) for a raw, unseasoned chicken.
@urusoimi6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but the one thing you failed to mention is that the 4.99 chickens are pumped with water.....they are so small before they 'process' them. You are paying 4.99 for about 4 oz of chicken. Bacon IS a healthy protein if you cook it to crispy, and lop off all the fat with a paper towel. It's flaw is excess salt.
@gilbertoflores73976 жыл бұрын
The chicken isn't as bad as he make it out to be, Costco doesn't make a 5 dollar chicken. They actually lose money on each one, kind of like they give free samples; they price it so low, and give away products for a reason. They also never raise the price for things like their chicken or certain lunch menu items because they're known for their roasted chicken, and low prices, it makes people feel like keeping their membership longer because they get such a good deal on things like the chicken. Costco usually also buys the industry they sell products for, so they probably own the farms where the chickens come from and don't pump them full of chemicals. What they do when they lose money on products (like their chicken and some foodcourt items) is try and save a few cents on each item sold by controlling its entire distribution to minimize lose.
@GarthGoldberg6 жыл бұрын
@@urusoimi They're maybe 10% bigger because of the water. That represents maybe fifty cents of the cost. Compare with the ready-made chickens at your grocery or Walmart; they're about half the size of those at Costco and are also brined. We bought a Costco chicken a few weeks ago. It was so big it didn't even fit in the plastic container. Last night, we bought one from Walmart for the first time. It was good, but only about half the size of the Costco chicken.

Helium Valentine sometimes these video hosts will embellish or make up something, or mislead by omission just to get their audience emotionally involved. As another another poster noted that chicken still has hormones added, I will say I honestly don’t know (even though it’s not been allowed for a long time....perhaps our food industry needs some major auditing). I just get the feeling that our healthy eating habits aren’t his main concern, but getting us emotionally involved is more his priority. Of course his comments on what’s good or bad for us maybe true, but I find he’s somewhat manipulating when he injects opinions on supposed facts without backing up with proof. And to be clear this is my reflection only on this video. What he does well is get us curious enough to research food ourselves and learn more about nutrition. (If you can find it, the food industry is huge, politically involved, and has secrets....and I’m not a person who mistrusts easily and doesn’t usually believe in conspiracies)

ShariSez1 yes that’s correct, as stated , olive oil has a low - medium smoke point. And regular olive oil, while containing some degree of refined oil, is still a much healthier choice than many other much more processed oils available. Other healthful choices for frying include ghee, coconut oil, possibly grape seed oil. I’m open to further alternatives!

Certified humane doesn’t mean anything.
@lennyblade40725 жыл бұрын
Abigail Verville yes it does you can’t just put anything it’s run through fda testing
@whoiam2135 жыл бұрын
actually @@lennyblade4072 Abigail is right. FDA actually does not "test" for animal cruelty, nor does the FDA issue ANY certified humane claims to any producer... The Certified Humane program is a 3rd party certification from an organization called "CertifiedHumane.org" that farmers can PAY to get to use their logo on their products in order to sell more. They pay a yearly fee to use their logo on their product. The only thing regarding the egg industry that the FDA cares about is the reduction of the possibility to spread salmonella poisoning. Thats it. They perform two phases of field testing taking swab samples, ensuring farmers are adhering to guidelines. None of which concern their "humane" level. At the same time, Certified Humane still doesn't mean the chickens aren't being flooded with hormones and antibiotics to reduce illness and to grow as rapidly as possible. And "organic" only means they ate organic grain. So the best option would be just to avoid eggs and chicken all together :-) But if you had to choose: go with organic, certified humane, hormone and antibiotic free, and range free, but if thats what you are looking for, you wont find it at Costco... However, the 3rd party guidelines that certifies egg producers as humane isn't that humane in the first place. In regards to "space" they only require that the birds are able to turn around and can reach a water nozzle (one for every 100 chickens)... so it's all about money in the end. Barely Humane or not, they still get beheaded and and live a horrible life either way. Which isn't that humane.

The problem with using the Cornucopia Institute as a benchmark for if Kirkland/Costco eggs are good or bad is that their rating system is horribly flawed. The Institute rates them based on responses to surveys that were sent to the producers. Since Costco didn't respond, the Institute gave them all zeros. The Institute list was originally produced almost 10 years ago. They provide zero details on when they surveyed producers or when they resurveyed them, if ever. And assigning a zero to a non-respondent in a flawed methodology. I've seen greater scientific rigor in a 6th-grade science fair project. Love your channel and Instagram feed, but please investigate the "sources" you are using before citing them. And please stop telling people to not buy Kirkland/Costo eggs based on flawed and misleading information. Also, Kirkland eggs now carry the Certified Humane certification as well.

As a single person who lives alone, most things at Costco would expire before I could get through it. His advice “just eat good and workout” is problematic. I could follow him perfectly but it won’t fix my congenital medical conditions. Some people just don’t absorb certain vitamins and nutrients regardless of what they eat. So multivitamins have a place. The gummies are not great because the supplements are sprayed on. A pill or chewable (non gummy) are a better choice. Anyway I use Costco mainly for non perishables.

All Mono and Polyunsaturated oils no matter who makes it or what kind it is changes to Saturated fat once you put it in a pan on the stove or in the oven and heat it up. All Mono and Polyunsaturated oils are meant to be use in the raw state such as in salad dressings or used to drizzle on grilled steak, fish or chicken after it is grilled. If you are going to use it to cook foods you should use a pump bottle and just squirt a small amount on each side of the food before cooking. Heat will change the molecular structure of any good oil fats to Saturated fats. Even toasting seeds and nuts over heat changes their good fat to saturated fat.

im glad you told us about the organic eggs: chickens being kept as "battery hens" where each chicken has to stand or sit in a cage that is only one inch wider and longer then their body. buy free range eggs. the pomegranate juice says 100% pomegranate so i don't see that that is "sugar and water". it is interesting to search if being pasteurized would ruin the flavonoids and antioxidants....? , if so then yes its a waste of money.... i'll have to look into it! sorry to give a different take on the bacon.... (we canadians always have to apologise! lol) the World Health Organization (WHO) officially classified any preserved meats (bacon, sausage, salami, ham, all highly processed meat in the deli department ) that have nitrates /nitrates, as a definite carcinogen encouraging colon cancer. Those "cured" meats now are on the same warning/classification as smoking.... !!! Unfortunately the "natural cured" with celery extract" still has the same cancer-causing, chemical effect as routine nitrates and nitrites, (according to the "Time" magazine article on this a couple years ago...) so it doesn't avoid making the meat being a carcinogen. i was fooled by that for years... Many processed types of meat that look "healthy" like turkey sliced have nitrates and nitrites.... all that meat that gets sliced for you at the deli section.... i have had breast cancer and had earlier done keto, for a few years.... I had bacon frequently, those turkey mini pepperonis, and a lot of meat, dairy, .. . i think in retrospect the keto diet spurred on my cancer... i have since read good studies where certain animal proteins and fats feed cancer and promote hormone excess (www.nuturitionfacts.org) keto may be ok for young people (high meat/high animal fat/ keto) but please research other sites that focus on curing cancer through complementary medicine and diet... (eg www.chrisbeatcancer.com and www.nuturitionfacts.org) especially if you are older or prone to cancer. www.nutritionfacts.org focuses on assessing old but relevant research with new gold standard research... According to W.H.O......people need to avoid (special occasions only? ?) preserved meat with nitrates... especially as colon cancer often isn't found till late.... Time Magazine had an article on this .. maybe a couple years ago now... Was great to see what was useful to buy at Costco otherwise, and also alert people to the chemical soup of the roast chickens, they are so darned tasty but so is all meat with sugar, flavorings, preservatives... they just LOOK natural after being roasted... Thank you for alerting people to the caged hen situations of the organic eggs. it's more about the really cruel way of keeping the chickens. imagine your whole life in a wire mesh cage with only 2 inches ALL around your body.... can't EVER turn around.... Shame on Costco for not selling free range organic ... there's lots around... it seems more "expensive' but it's only what? about 3.00? more to buy organic AND free range.... its still really very little as a food source. At least consider choosing the free-RANGE and farms that are certified by the SPCA .... (free "run" is more vague.... . ) ... better to eat fewer eggs anyway... see www.nuturitionfacts.org about eggs too! thanks for your care and generous sharing of your time... love your humor too!!.
