In Sweden, “Lucy” is Saint Lucia (Loo-see-yah) and it is a tradition where a daughter will wake up her family with fresh pastries and song while in the traditional Lucia robe. It takes place on the 13th of December and churches will have Lucia choirs, and they sing the traditional Yule songs. At least, that’s true for Sweden, I don’t know much about the other countries. Lucia is a very benevolent figure, the whole idea is to bring light and cheer to the family. Personally it’s my favorite tradition
@cobblegen12042 ай бұрын
I recognized this from an old Highlights magazine I read in elementary school. It seems so wholesome, especially among all the creepy monsters of European folklore.
@frejamadsen79742 күн бұрын
In Denmark we mostly have school events around sankte Lucia. Children wearing white dresses (usually girls sometimes also boys) will walk in a line with candles in their hands through unlit corridors singing a song. The person at the front is considered the "Lucia bride" and gets to wear a crown of candles. It's a tradition that's actually quite cozy despite how it sounds lol. Luciaboller are also delicious!

Hi Irish man here, Cloch/Cloich is just the Irish word for Stone and is pronounced a bit like the Scottish Loch with a C at the front, Cúchulainn is pronounced like Coo Cullin, Cú being the Irish word for hound or wolf, and Chulainn being a lord he accidentally killed a guard dog of and thus had to become his guard until he could replace it
@chucklebutt44702 ай бұрын
I got really into Cúchulainn from his inclusion in the game Smite. The description of his spear in writings is so brutal. "It entered a man's body with a single wound, like a javelin, then opened into thirty barbs. Only by cutting away the flesh could it be taken from that man's body.".. "coursing through the highways and byways of his body so that every single joint filled with barbs."

43:00 I think this is less a reference to folklore and more to the Holiday Illness. Basically any time theres a major holiday with big gatherings, the chance of giving, spreading, or getting sick goes up. Making a natural phenomenon into something caused by strange creatures is something this game does well, so I wouldnt be surprised if the reference is that simple.
@casanovafunkenstein50902 ай бұрын
@@writer4life724 I think there's also the aspect of Christmas being the only time you see a lot of the people there, so you could go your entire life never interacting with them outside of that brief period where you share a house each year, meaning you'd never know the difference if they were an elf. It's a very human thing to rationalise that a person you don't recognise at a party must know someone else there. The whole gathering would probably know that the person is a stranger, but nobody would want to bring it up in case they made a fool of themselves.

The original Lussi tradition still exists in almost the exact same manner in Sweden called Saint Lucia day. A girl is picked to be Saint Lucia, she dresses the exact same way with the lit candle wreath and all, and she goes through the streets holding a candle to light the way as saffron bread is passed out. It is practically the same in every way almost, I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned! My grandma's family is Swedish, and we used to do the tradition when my sister and I were the right ages still. I think it's like the youngest girl who is at least 8 or something, it's been a long time since then. 😂

28:24 the sugar wisp might be a reference to the sugar plum fairy with their fae-like elements, but I think between the ‘sugar plum’ scent and the ‘dreams of dancing orbs’ it’s a clear reference to famous poem ‘A Visit from St. Nickolas’ also known as ‘The Night Before Christmas’. Specifically, the passage “The children were nestled all snug in their beds; While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads”

SERIOUSLY I adore this video, I love the world of Home Safety Hotline, it’s absolutely fascinating, but HOLY MOLY some of these new hazards ARE SO. SCARY. Perchta was the first to truly freak me out, she’s just so unsettling and cruel, though that’s partly because of 1: the uncanny valley and 2: I would… definitely be a target of her. Mental+physical illness tends to make it hard to clean, and while it’s certainly possible to get help, well, mental disorders.. they’re called disorders for a reason, it’s hard to think logically that someone would be willing to help you when you can barely help yourself. But rewatching the video, I have a newfound understanding and terror about The Hunt. I didn’t quite grasp it last time I watched it, BUT YIKES!!!! It’s… really sad, too. From that one call of the aftermath, it’s clear that The Hunt is a force of cruel, cruel nature, capable of wiping out entire communities with very few survivors, and even after, those survivors have to face their former neighbors as Wights, probably resulting in even more deaths. You think it’s just a heavy snowstorm, but nothing remains in the morning. The audio of the Wight’s cough is so unsettling, they managed to make the sound so human and so.. wrong. I feel bad for the towns that are hit with no warning :( Thank you for letting me ramble, I have one concept to consider: when they target someone, do you think the Mountain Warlocks are doing a silly little dance while they chant? I literally can’t see them doing anything else during their chanting, they’re all dancing silly

I was so hyped when I saw this!!! I was hoping you would cover the DLC. The next videos sound super intriguing because I really don’t know much about either of those pieces of media so I’ll be excited to see what you come up with!! On another note, I recently watched some people playing the game Mouthwashing, and that game struck me as right up your alley because of how many things could be dissected and theorized about from it, since there are a lot of metaphorical sequences taking places within a character’s mind/psyche. It’s a very dark game though, so I understand if you might be hesitant to cover it

9:28 And the fact that HSH is very reminiscent of HoH SiS just makes that reference even better

It's weird how amazing the skits work with the overview of the game, absolutely love your videos

I found your original HSH video and fell in love with your content. You’ve quickly became one of my favourite creators! Thanks for the awesome content!

Kurva with a V is Czech, with a W Polish, in both cases you gotta make sure respect sex workers. Activated my neurons with that one. Czechs have some fascinating rituals in December, we miss out on Halloween sadly, but in return we get Saint Nick's Eve where we traumatise kids with devils, and we have fortune telling on Christmas Eve, cutting an apple in half to see the seeds, star is good cross is a bad omen, throwing a shoe over your shoulder towards the door to see how it lands and whether you're leaving the family, making small boats out of walnut shells with candles in them and floating those in a bowl of water to see if the family stays together, oh and the most hardcore one: Casting molten lead by pouring it into water and then reading the shapes. None of which I've gotten to do, except the boats once, but that's a my family and my history thing.

Honestly you are one of my favorite KZbinrs! I use your videos to go to sleep bc they capture my attention but aren’t loud and noisy! You go into so much detail and are so passionate about the games your playing that I can’t help but find myself getting so invested! Thank you for posting this and I hope you’re doing well! 🥰

I rotate between ManlyBadassHero, Flawed, and Ophie Dokie to help me sleep. Nice, soothing voices without yelling, screaming, or loud noises. I put the volume down so I can just make out what they're saying without straining and try to relax my body and mind.
