In the late 80s, I saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Woodies in Fullerton. There might have been 50 to 60 people there that night. This was my first time seeing them. I was absolutely blown away. When they played Get Up and Jump, I knew I was a fan for life. I've seen them 36 times total. When Hillel, Jack and Flea would lock in together, there's nothing else in the world like it. At that show, I got up to the front of the stage. I was wearing a Weirdos T-shirt. Anthony saw the shirt, and had the group play Solitary Confinement. Are you kidding me?! A fan for life. P.S. I still have the set list from off of the stage monitor. Epic AF

Hello, I am a professional bassist that has been playing for 35+ years and I want to say I have the utmost respect for Flea. Flea knows how to hold down a bands foundation. There are a lot of young players that have a lot of technique and tricks, but when it comes to holding down a band and rocking and locking in a whole 3 hour show consistently they are seriously lacking. Flea has rocked the biggest stages...all over the world. I've come to learn, it's not all about technique and the most legendary players know this...it is about heart, soul and attitude and Flea has tons of all 3. But you can sit in your bedroom and put him down and go to your grocery store job... if it makes you feel better...Hopefully you can get a discount on your Flea tickets the next time he plays the Forum...and you can shout out "Flea sucks" from the audience...I guarantee it will be drowned out by screaming, cheering, maniacal fans enjoying every note he plays...and he'll cash his huge check which confirms...he knows something you don't.

@moorditjman10 жыл бұрын
well it kinda does matter; how fast he can play, or how well when its an instructional video... its supposed to show that you're gonna start here and then in time blossom into a hell of a better player, instead of into mediocre 'ive spent way too much time on my attitude then my actual playing and becoming a better musician' . you have to balance you're personality with your skill, because if you have no skill then you're boring, but if you have no personality to match good skill you're not going to get any further either.

Ngl I kinda like these short videos from musicians where they teach others how to do what they do, similar to the video ‘Paul McCartney Teaches Bass’. I just think it’s really nice seeing certain musicians break down their techniques for the rest of the world to try for themselves.

Primus and Red Hot Chili Peppers put out a lot of Great Tunes over the Years! I would rather just watch and listen to their music, and Not try and attempt it myself! LoL
@edtExodus3 жыл бұрын
Sure, but some people need to try and attempt it themselves as part of their journey, so there'll be bands putting out great tunes in the future, too.

Flea, you are such a wonderful teacher! You should do clinics! The two words that struck me in this simple instructional are "comfort" and "power". This is why some were meant to teach, and others weren't! I will use this for some of my students. Thank you!

I love guitar and it's my fav instrument, but playing the bass is just so fun. The guitar is like your parents you will always love and appreciate, but the bass is that uncle that takes you to the arcade and out to eat and spoils you

This is why the man is a bass God. He's not a beast on stage because of any other reason other than the music. He isn't putting on a show. He's expressing how the music feels when it goes through him in a way you can understand. Pure magic.
