you can make one fairly cheap and easy with a 3/8-24 threaded base part used on so many cb antennas, just find a good stiff piece of fiberglass rod and run the 14 or 12 guage wire up the length and epoxy it to it and the solder it to the 3/8-24 part. Or there is several "ham stick" clones out there for 10 meter. The bottom half is usually fibeglass and the upper half is the whip. The bottom fibeglass half is just a straight wire up to the center metal part that holds the whip. They adjust fine for cb and they are typically cheap. MFJ makes a version and I know a few years back they were only like $20.00. Ill have to look to see what they inflated them to now days. They were cheap enough then to get a few extras in case of an "accident".
@kevinmccool37192 жыл бұрын
Well I just checked the MFJ website and they do show on there the model MFJ-2610T 10 meter hamstick, BUT its now $59.95, my God that is one hell of a price increase, I can only imagine what the really good manufacturers are charging for theirs now, This is all due to BIDEN.
@kevinmccool37192 жыл бұрын
Go to the Gigaparts site and get the Shark brand hamstick model ZSD-S-F10 for 10 meters, its only $24.95, screw MFJ.

Resolder the audio ic on the side of radio, those solder joints pull from the board when people tighten the bracket knobs to tight , also the RK 56 sucks to low of audio. I agree on the Lincoln , that receiver, even the first gen ( hr 2510 style) had crap receiver. Take care Mr. MJ

Im not familiar with any of the older g.e. 40 ch hanhelds from the old days but some of the old Radio Shack Realistic 23 ch and 40 ch handhelds from the 70's to the 90's were well made and had the long center loaded telescoping antennas. In the right open areas you could get amazing range between them. If you knew someone who had a good base station in the area with a really good high antenna you could be heard on those old Realistic handhelds for 10 to 20 miles in the clear, sometimes more. I wish President Electronics would make a modern ssb 40 ch handheld with a lithium ion battery pack and good ssb frequency stability, I think they would sell great. An export model ssb from them would be fantastic, not sure why they don't see how popular it could be. With the beginning of the latest solar cycle upswing of sunspots this would be the perfect time for them. A 10 meter version alone would probably interest the ham guys.

The Cobra was a good buy for someone who uses AM a lot (I'm a sidebander 98% of the time), but I wouldn't have picked it up as the modern Cobra 29 is the most underbuilt, overproduced radio ever slapped together in my opinion. Now, had it been an oddball or defunct brand (Robyn, Tram, Courier, etc) I'd have snapped it up in a heartbeat. But if you enjoy them, more power to you! Have a fine one!

I don't see hardly any at flea markets anymore but they do show up at hamfests for really good prices! Last year's finds included a Bearcat 980 SSB for $10 and a Kris Big Boomer, also $10.
@MowerJunkie2 жыл бұрын
Nice! Your purchase was way better than mine. that Kris Big Boomer is a keeper.
@spaceflight10192 жыл бұрын
Thanks. With 4 watts drive from the Bearcat the Kris made 188 watts into a 300 watt Drake dummy load. I did replace the caps so I think that the tubes are healthy. The amp was part of a "two fer" deal. $20 for the Kris and a Comstat 25A. The radio apparently was retired with all of its OEM tubes due to a bad 11.275 MHz crystal. Other hamfest finds were an Olson Spotter 2 and Courier 1M for $20 each. I still go to as many hamfests as I can because you never know what will show up. There are several hamfest vids on here for folks who've never been to one. It's electronic nirvana!

Cobra 29s are JUNK. I've had about 5 of them, a couple were new. I love the way they look, but the pots and channel display are total trash. On every single one of them I had intermittent contact on the pots, segments missing on the channel display, and a complete failure of the meter on a couple of them. 30-40 years ago they were good radios, now they are Chinese made garbage. I currently have a Galaxy 959 in my truck, and a UNIDEN (last of three different models produced of this radio) Washington base. Both seem to work very well with no problems.
