Don’t soak the Valentines, you can try freezing Or a hair dryer first to try to loosen glue. If that doesn’t work, try steaming from the backside. The Victorian die cut scrap you can soak. The fabric book I would leave intact, it’s unusual. You can soak a lot of the die cuts off linen but I really think intact it’s worth more since they are not on acidic paper but cloth. Glue on the elf heads, usually water with some vinegar on a cotton ball, let it soak and you can carefully peel with your fingernail when soft. If it’s not glueing not loosening you can try warming up carefully with a hair dryer. Yes, I’ve done all this before for many years. Being slow and patient gives the best results, fast and forceful you’re going to tear stuff. Dry the wet pieces single on wax paper not stacked because the glue will be sticky and can re glue your images together as they dry and you’ll be left with a pile of glued images.

Hello glad you made another video. I collect newspaper articles. Magazines. Postcards and books. Sadly I feel all these things are going to be a thing of the past as all are easily available via internet. So I collect as much as possible now. Fyi when buying books in a thrift store or flea market glance inside the first few pages you may find a authentic author signature. I couldn't tell you how many autographed books I have bought for pennies at thrift stores yard sales etc. I collect historical events. Celebrity death articles and major sports news articles.

Those vintage cards look just like my collection, as mom saved all the cards I received from 1943 to the 1950's. Still have them all...none were glued into scrap books. One of these days, I will have to take a gander of Larry's walk through time. All are in packets labeled by year. Just can't get over the size of the stores and flea markets in your area. The thrifting thing is a dying proposition here. Apartment developments now occupy most of the lands that were markets. Hope you had a Happy 4th. Glad to see you are back in action...enjoy your adventures! Have one locket of dad's folks and granddad's pocket watch. Real dear/elk have broken antlers, so your decoration is realistic!

We are lucky to have a wide variety of flea markets in the area that I live in. While I love Wyoming, the lack of flea markets and decent thrifting options is probably the only negative about the Cody area. I do have a favorite thrift shop in Cody but due to the holiday, it was closed during my time there.

Hey Renee - I missed my daily dose of ephemera while you were gone. It was a great day at the flea market. You got some really good items. About the glue issue: in the stamping world, if you want to remove something that has been glued, you use a heat tool (sort of like a hair dryer, but much better). Gently blow the hot air on the wrong side of the item - keep it moving to prevent burning - gently work on removing the scrap. I've done it on plenty of new things, but never on old glued down ephemera. Test it out first on something you're not wild about !!!

The Red Hat Society inspiration came from a (personal favorite) poem: "'Warning" by Jenny Joseph "When I am an old woman I shall wear purple, "With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me..." There's much more, all pretty funny - and it was written in 1961 - maybe your light red with purple piping lady from 1963 had read it and was inspired to create a subtle nod? At any rate, she looks wonderful! :)

Renee, people give a lot of advice about soaking these paper items off. I have seen some horrible results from that method.Why not try steam to get them off? That way not as much water is involved. One of those home steam clothes pressing devices might work. You might get Taco to be on the lookout for one thrown out in the trash. There may be one discarded in a thrift store also. Good luck, it will be time consuming.

OHHHHH fun stuff. Thanks for sharing! I have bought frame and had second piece of clear glass to fit. Sandwiched a two sided piece between the two sheets of glass. I think you might have to try steaming to get paper off glued paper. Try a small one first, and see how it goes. It involves a tea kettle on the stove & you heat it until steam comes out the spout. Then hold the item in the steam and work the backing off carefully. (Not while it is in the steam or you will scald yourself) Reapply as you go.

HI great video , but personally I would not do anything to the scrap book that was on the fabric , I would just preserve it as is,more value to it as is and it's so lovely and different ,so I hope you don't take it apart ,I would frame it and show a different page every few months it's a piece of art, just my opinion . Some of the Xmas elves were freebies that came with dish or box laundry soap not sure if the ones you just purchased in this video are but I have a couple myself that we had when I was a kid and that's were ours came from and they look almost the same ours were from the 1950s . I noticed that the statue of liberty pin was attached to a Fleur de Les and I suppose that is because the lady was a gift from France?
@PaperandMoose5 жыл бұрын
I agree. I would like to do a little searching on it to find out the year it was made.
@deadhorse13915 жыл бұрын
While the statue itself was a gift from France the US had to come up with the money to build the base. New York refused and the US government couldn’t seem to get it together. Finally publisher Joseph Pulitzer started a crowd funding campaign and the American Committee of the Statue of Liberty came up with the idea of making and selling models of the statue in department stores. Finally they raised the $250,000 needed. Few years ago a friend of mine bought a lawnmower at auction and he got the rest of the row of junk. In it was this 6 inch Statue of Liberty I took it, thought it looked different Yup was one of the American Committee of the Statue of Liberty models. Sold Very Very Well. 😉

Great video.. At 2:43 the box in the front look like it had old player piano scrolls in it. Some of them might go for good money. You might want to look the elves up on eBay. It would be nice to see a video of some of the cards that are in the envelopes and the jewelry. You should make a video of you taken the cards of the paper and the linen.
