I've used this video a few times now. Just a heads up to everyone.... double check if you have a turbine or a paddle wheel which is common if you got the system off Amazon. I selected T.07 when reaching the last setting "FM" and had issues with salt clogs because the gallons used was not accurate. I switched it to P.07 because I have a paddle wheel and problem solved.
@sebastianvettel10003 жыл бұрын
Yes you right, I had the same problem. If anyone still not sure which is right setting for FM, then select T0.7 and open a tap and fill a 3 gallon bucket, and come back and check the meter. If meter is not right, change to P0.7

This video is great. There's something I encountered that I haven't seen mentioned in any of these videos yet - the capacity must show the x1000. If it doesn't, you're literally setting it for the number seen. I had my meter delayed gallons remaining count showing zero and couldn't figure out why. I then noticed I had capacity set to 40 instead of 40x1000. You literally have to hold the up button until it exceeds the first thousand to start showing the x1000. Something to be aware of for sure.

@aquatell8 жыл бұрын
Hi. A water softener is going to strive to make your water perfectly soft. There is no setting that will allow you to make it a little bit harder. This is a common misconception. Any setting changes you make to try and achieve this, will only affect when your water softener regenerates, not how hard or soft your water is. The only thing you can do to make your water a little less soft, is to allow some of your water to bypass the softener altogether. You can do this by cracking open the bypass a little. Not very high-tech, but it should work.

I have this unit for about 4 years now and noticed my glasses have water spots so does the fridge where water hits the water collection tray. I checked my water hardness and its basically zero. So I can't tell if there is a problem or not?
@aquatell2 жыл бұрын
Well, if the water hardness is testing at or close to zero, then the softener is doing its job. If your hardness is very high, there's a chance that the water spotting you're seeing is from the elevated sodium level in the water that is caused by the softener. My guess though, is that your water hardness isn't always zero - it just happened to be at zero when you tested it, and at other times there is some hardness getting through that is causing the water spots.

Ok so, I have the fleck 5600 sxt 4800 grain capacity that I just had installed about 3 weeks ago. It has only gone through one regeneration period as the installer set it to 14 days, which I will be changing to 7 now that I have watched your video. My question is: My water is tasting salty and feels very slimy to say the least. My Hardness is set to 20 and my BF is set to 20 by the company that installed it. Also there is 9 inches of water above the salt in my brine tank which seems a bit excessive? I do not remember what my Hardness tested at but I know it wasn't really high. I am on well water with of course Iron in it. I was thinking that If I lowered my Hardness to say 15 and/or lowered my BF to 12 this might help. I would assume I would need to do a manual regeneration for the changes to take effect and see if there is any difference in taste and texture of the water. Would appreciate any help, Thank You.
@aquatell3 жыл бұрын
Your hardness (H) value needs to be set to the actual hardness of your water - not more, not less. If the brine fill rate on your softener is 0.5 gallons per minute, which it is for about 99% of Fleck 5600SXTs, then your BF time should be set to 10, which will add 5 gallons of water to your tank. You also need to confirm that your capacity (C) value is set to 37. Once these changes are made it will take two regenerations to see the effect. Soft water feels "slippery". You likely won't make this go away by changing these settings. The softener is doing what it's supposed to do.
@RedwingT3 жыл бұрын
@@aquatell Thank You very much. I left my hardness alone at 20 as when he did the math after testing that is what it came out to, so I am assuming it is correct. I did change my BF to 10 yesterday but didn't realize the C needed to be lowered to 37 from 48 so I will do that today. Hopefully I have less salt taste in my coffee, that is my main issue since the unit has been installed. Thank you for your guidence, much appreciated.

@TechnicalLee4 жыл бұрын
If the water is too slippery you can reduce the salt setting and also the capacity setting to increase the hardness leakage. This will also have a benefit of reducing your salt usage. You will need to do some calculations and look at a capacity table to set it correctly depending on you size of softener. Low tech way is to turn the bypass valve slightly to allow some water to bypass the softener.

Your 'BF' setting recommendations based on cu.ft. softener are flawed WITHOUT verifying the size of the brine injector nozzle. Have a 1 cu ft Fleck with a .125 nozzle that requires a 28 minute BF to get the required salt lbs per regen necessary. Injector nozzle size is the control factor for BF, not the cu. ft. softener size.
@aquatell3 жыл бұрын
A couple comments: It's actually the Brine Line Flow Control (BLFC) that you're talking about. It's what limits the flow rate through the brine line. If you have a Fleck-based softener that has a BLFC of 0.125 you almost certainly don't have a Fleck 5600 valve, in which case it's likely that lots of the settings in the video are incorrect for you, or at least will be a little confusing. It's possible (I think) to equip a Fleck 5600SXT with a 0.125 gpm BLFC but it would be very uncommon. And to your point, if that's what you have then yes, the brine fill time we've given you here is going to be way too short. We've tailored these video instructions for the most common Fleck 5600SXT configuration, which is a 0.5 gpm BLFC.

How can you check your water hardness. Can you get a test kit or something at home depot etc?

How long does it takes for water to fill the brine? There are no water in mine whatsoever
@aquatell6 жыл бұрын
Well, that depends on how the valve is programmed. When you program it, one of the program parameters that you set is the Brine Fill (abbreviated to BF in the programming menu). The number you set for BF is the number of minutes that the softener will fill the brine tank. And in the vast majority of cases the softener will fill the brine tank at 0.5 gallons per minute. So if you set the BF to 8, the softener will add 4 gallons of water to the tank. Hope that helps!

Oh - one more thing. Once you've programmed the time for the BF, you'll need for force a regeneration of the softener before it will add the water to the tank.

Should be 6 to 10 min

Are you sure there's no water? Or is it just below the salt level so you can't see it? The length of time to fill the brine tank with the proper amount of water depends on many factors: softener size, desired salt dosage, presence or absence of iron, etc. More importantly though, different softeners fill the brine tank at a different rate. Some fill it at 0.5 gpm, and others, as an example, fill it at 0.125 gpm. So the brine fill times would be very different for these two systems, even if you wanted to add the same amount of water.

i have two black tanks one is taller than the other (if it matters) they both have the same programming unit like in this video. When it asks 1 or 2 tanks do i select 2 on both? i lost the booklet on the tanks one must be a softener and the other a ......?
@aquatell5 жыл бұрын
Likely, one is a softener, and the other is some kind of backwashing filter. Could be a carbon filter, iron filter, sediment filters. For both systems you want to select "1" for the NT setting (NT = Number of Tanks).
@kevinthurston25575 жыл бұрын
I think if you have two seperate SXT on two separate tanks, then choose one tank
@aquatell5 жыл бұрын
If you have one control valve on a single tank, choose 1. If one control valve is being used to backwash two tanks, choose 2.

Hello Guys, by any chance do you have a tutorial video on how to program a Fleck 9000sxt for dual tanks. I am not sure how many cubic feet should I input in the master program, if each tank has a 2.5cf capacity. Total 5 cu ft

We can change the pH of the water?
@aquatell4 жыл бұрын
Yes - you can change the pH of your water, but not with a water softener. Usually, people are looking to increase the pH of their water (make it "alkaline"). If that's the case, then you need to use what is often called an acid neutralizer. Are you looking to accomplish this for the water in your whole home, or just for a single dispensing point?
