It's crazy how a song takes you to a time and place in your life. I listened to this song on an airplane to visit my friend and Boise Idaho. He died of cancer 8 hours before I landed to visit him. RIP Cary Benson. This song will forever remind me of you

😭 Cancer sucks!!! I’m sorry you had to experience that… I know how that feels. I lost my oldest brother to bile duct and liver cancer in last year 8/28. He didn’t make it a year to thanksgiving. I had a feeling I should’ve went Friday night because Saturday morning I was supposed to drive up to be with family and say goodbye but I got a call from my dad at 2am saying his breathing was shallow and I jumped up put my son in the car and drove as fast as I could and he passed 15 minutes after. I just remember screaming in rage and just kept rushing. That is a feeling like no other when you were too late to say goodbye.

This album could not have come at a more important time for me. I just started a huge new job and I'm trying to keep making music and being creative while I work 45 hours a week for less than minimum wage for the first time in my life... It's been so god damn hard to stay with it.... I really needed some new inspiring tunes and what do you know, new FF album. Thankfully I was able to purchase the vinyl for my collection as I would never miss a masterpiece like this. Thank you Robin, and thank you to everyone who made this music possible.

I completely relate. I just started a job last month doing something completely unrelated to my field because I happened to graduate from college in May, in the midst of the pandemic. It has been so difficult doing something I really don’t want to do just to get by. I know I’m not the only one in this situation, but it is hard because everyone around me had such high expectations. But these things are out of my control for the time being. This album was released at the perfect time. It just feels like a breath of fresh air. Anyways, I wish you the best!

The harmonies chorus or whatever you call it, from 2:33-2:56 is so good. Quite magical. It's like he's slightly warped the sound of this part in the production and given it just the right tone and mood. It' gives it an edge while being soothing at the same time.

It might seem a bit pedantic to say this, but a lot of folk in this newer generation seems fake. It emulates nature and the rustic aesthetic, but never truly portrays the experience. Fleet Foxes is one of those artists that can TRULY show you how nature would feel in art form. Not just the beauty of it like many modern folk artists love to romanticize about, but also the abruptness, the natural feeling of death and pain that nature also hits you with. It isn't just beautiful, it has thorns, and will readily present you with torn carcasses and the desperate need for food/water in a survival situation. It isn't just a pretty cabin in the woods, you have to go through the painful process of survival to reach that point, but even in those moments, you can learn to appreciate that struggle nature gives you. To me, Fleet Foxes fantastically personifies that feeling and aesthetic through song, which is very impressive and something I feel many other folk artists fail to capture.
