This was Fleetwood Mac's third UK top 40 single, reaching #1 in January 1969. The first two were Black Magic Woman, famously covered by Santana, and Need Your Love So Bad, a slow, soulful cover of a blues number written by Little Willie John. Albatross was inspired by Sleep Walk, a 1959 hit for Santo & Johnny. It was also the first FM recording to feature new member Danny Kirwan, who proved to be as gifted a guitarist and songwriter as Peter Green. The follow-up single was the deeply introspective Man Of The World, which made #2 despite having little obvious commercial potential.

Must be 30 years since I last heard this song. Reminds me a bit of Santana's "Samba Pa Ti" , which is another great Sunday vibe. If you like Santana I suggest "Taboo" off Santana 3, featuring Neil Schon on guitar, who later went on to form the band "Journey". Wheels within wheels...

@@martinellis7156 you know, I've heard of Santana and seen album covers in places like HMV etc but have never taken the tike to listen to him, just always heard the name and thought it wouldn't be for me for some reason, what genre is the music? Perhaps now is the time to explore it?!
@martinellis71562 ай бұрын
@@MusicForTheSoulReactions Carlos Santana is an electric guitar player, his band is called simply "Santana", he performed at the original "Woodstock" festival so he's kicking on now but still playing. The first 3 albums are considered to be rock classics, especially ""Abraxas" and "Santana 3". I've been loving his music for 50 years and he is definitely up there with the guitar greats. Try the song "Europa" .

"Albatross" (at least here in Sweden) was played a lot on radio in the early 70s. I don't think I ever heard "Oh, well pt 2" back then. I found it decades later on KZbin. For me "Albatross" is like flowing above a sea. "Oh, well pt 1" is rock-blues passing over to "pt 2" which is in the same way is like flowing over a desert in a Western movie. The two are akin and if Peter Green hadn't gone ill we maybe could have had more of that. A pity. Bye the way the Haim sisters made an excellent cover of "pt 1" Glastonbury 2014! Here is a lot to explore. (Not to mention the connection between "Black Magic Woman" and "Gypsy Queen" by Gabor Szabo...)

I'm not familiar with Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. Yes, this was a nice tune to chill out to. Just finished some yard work, came inside because it's getting hot again. Nice calm song and reaction. Happy Sunday, signing out, US Roadie 1.

Surprised he didn't recognise this. For one thing, in recent years it was used on a radio ad for insurance (or was it for an obscure bank?)... The song not only topped the charts on release but, three years later, came very close to repeating the feat. (I don't know who Albert Ross was either). Btw I thought Sundays were meant to be silent and grey

You are like a stick of rock with Fleetwood written all the way through it.🤣 This is a real chill tune...no head bangin' going on here. You should compare the two versions of Black Magic Woman from FM and Santana. They are different. Not sure if this influenced Monty Python with their Albatross sketch or not.

Great instrumental.. You will also have to introduce some female vocals to you're list, which I'm sure will happen naturally anyway! My suggestion would be HEART - CRAZY OVER YOU! Alot of the elements you like with the savage voice of Ann wilson! Irish roadie Colm.. 🤘😎🤘
